Go to the Stasi headquarters museum http://www.stasimuseum.de/en/enindex.htm (just realised they have moved it for renovation - they shouldn't have because it was like a journey back in time).

Lots of lovely Vietnamese, Cuban and Eastern European restaurants.

You should fit in a walking tour or two.  Good Nazi walking tour, takes you around the city and there is a great 'history of Berlin' walking tour.  A must do http://www.insidertour.com/

The Sony centre is a must see too and of course, you have to go and witness Sachsenhausen.

My favourite city in the world, a great place.

Tahnks for all the suggestions folks....Bump for anyone that missed this....heading this time next week...thanks 4father....those walking tours look the part...not bad at 12 yos yos!!

Also worth looking at the New Europe tours, they're 'free' and then you tip the guide what you think they are worth.

The Wall museum and memorial on Bernauer Strasse is worth a visit.  The Haus am Checkpoint Charlie is Ok, it's iconic and there are some good exhibits, but it can feel like an archive at times.  And its always heaving.

Berlin's a fantastic city for a night out, best areas are Freidrichshain in the East, Prenzlauer Berg in the North East and Kreuzberg in the South.  The first two are old Eastern areas that are lively, Prenz'l Berg's the more gentrified of the two.  Kreuzberg is the punk/turkish heart of "West Berlin".

if you're into that sort of thing the technical museum is pretty good, as are the museums on Museumsinsel (sh*te we stile from the Greeks/Romans/Egyptians etc...).  The German history museum and the Jewish museum are pretty good, they show a side of Berlin that isn't just Nazis => 4-powers occupation => airlift => wall.
