Working over Christmas?

Whats story with working over christmas in the states.
would americans mostly only be taking monday off?

They aren't big fans of taking holidays over there!

Finished yesterday half day, in next thursday for one day then back on the 4th

Sure you could guess he's a civil servant. They also get an extra halfday to do their Christmas shopping - and no I'm not making that up! I don't know he finds the time to take his 40 odd days holiday every year.

It was a full day last year, the recession is kicking in.

Most people will off today and back to work Monday.
