It's intriguing as always. City seem to have gone mad with attacking players but have serious issues at the back. Is Pep going to discard the traditional full-back role as he seemed to do last year? Are they good enough at the back to actually win it?

I'm unconvinced about Lukaku against tight defences so the jury is still out on United too. Will Miki and Pogba improve much from their first season? Will they keep De Gea?

Spurs's ability to handle playing away from WHL is an obvious question. I don't think Arsenal or Liverpool will challenge.

I'm interested to see how Leicester, Watford and Palace do under their new managers. I fear for Bilic at West Ham and I think Everton will be mid-table with their new signings and European football to consider. Also keen to see how Bournemouth do with Defoe and Ake added.

I'll take a guess at United for the title.

It'll be similar to last year, although I'm hoping that Chelsea's European involvement might see them dropping a few more points and giving everyone else a target in the spring.

That's got to be the first time I've ever seen either Liverpool or Arsenal behind Spurs in the odds. Personally I don't think Wembley is going to be Spurs' big issue so much as keeping their "poor underpaid" players focused unless they start the season with a bang.

Man Utd should improve in last year but so far all they've really done is replace a lazy goal machine with another lazy goal machine. That won't fix their creativity problems.

So much depends on whether or not Chelsea get their hands on a serious replacement for Costa. Seeing the stats they are the best counterattacking team around so they might not need a direct Costa type player to replace.
The new MF guy who I am too lazy to spell right now should form a serious barrier with Kante so the top three will have even more freedom.
City are after another right back in Danilo, but have yet to shore up the centre or left side of defence. Plus their keeper might need time to settle.
Liverpool need more solidity too. Arsenal could do their usual along the way if they keep Sanchez.

United and Spurs are like Chelsea in that they have the most solid bases from the back to build on. Still need a serious man beisde or as back-up for Kane mind.

I think it will be (but it's a toss-up for now until the window shuts)
Chelsea
United
City
Spurs

I would expect that Brighton and Huddersfield will go right back down and West Ham have potential to fall apart as well.

I think Everton are a bit off the pace. Bournemouth could shake up the chasing pack a bit if Josh King has the same form and in fairness a lot of their season went dodgy when Ake went back to Chelsea. Begovic is a very good keeper. Defoe will get goals and they have a solid outfit overall. A team I would like to see do well.

Liverpool don't have enough money. Tottenham won't spend any money. Arsenal have Wenger. Man Utd are still lost.
So probably between Chelsea and Man City .

£133m on 3 full backs, £220m in total i heard on the radio this morning. The whole thing exists in a bubble and no-one seems to mind. Gary Lineker on £40k pw (all year) to piddle around in a studio talking footy for an hour a week for a few Saturdays. I don't care what the man sitting next to me in the office earns and good luck to anyone worth their big bucks but some of the money washed through football is criminal - literally. Linekar is stealing a living.

Liverpool have zero chance of a top 4 I reckon and might even struggle to get above Everton. I like Klopp but unless  they get out of the blocks quick, I think he could gone by Christmas.

I'm the same... have seen grown men start fights over the head of it and best friends fall out over a group of over paid foreign lads who have no allegiance to anyone.

My favourite is when United fans proclaim that I know nothing about football when they just decided one day to support the most successful team in the league and therefore know more than everyone!

It does provide me with endless fun winding the hoors up though... they take it so seriously!!

Utd had as big a fan base as let's say Liverpool before Utd won all the EPL's based on a few factors, one being the Busby babes, the titles won during that period and the fact that they were the first English team to win the European cup, add in the big Irish connection with past players were all reasons why Ireland had a big Utd following...

Factor in parents influences on kids picking teams and it's very simple to see why they have a big support... you'll always get bandwagon supporters sure there are loads of Irish Chelsea supporters ! Strange

Well put MR. United have had huge support in Ireland and worldwide since the Busby Babes and the Best/Law/Charlton eras. Highest average home league attendance 35 of the last 40 seasons in England, a lot of those seasons there was no league title and a lot of disappointment. I know it's difficult to understand but even going 26 years without a league title, United were still one of the biggest clubs in the world at that time.

Barca are dwarfed by Messi wages and the fact he has to be the main man. Maybe should have sold Messi and made Neymar main man. The draw of playing for the big two in La Liga will always exist.

The money involved in Neymar transfer is disgusting. I know not Premier League but some of transfer valuation in it is outrageous. 50 million for Walker. Swansea wanting 50 mill for Sig.

Ah footballs mad, just go with it it's not worth fighting it anymore.. If this goes through and it looks like it might FFP is fcuked the likes of City, PSG will be able do what they like in the future possibly relegating Real, Barca et al to the role of also rans..

You're mad if you think Real or Barca will ever be also rans.

Jaysus lad I know ur not the brightest star in the sky but the transfer we're talking about is a guy willing to leave Barca to join PSG..

For about £515,000 a week in wages and to get out from Messi's shadow and challenge for PotY awards. Very similar situation to Kyrie Irving in Cleveland.

Aye and the point is that money is endless with these clubs and if FFP isn't there to keep them in check the players will all end up playing for these clubs.

The money ain't endless when his contract and transfer fee comes to around £450 million, for one easily injurable player. Even PSG can't leverage that sort of money many times in a generation.

Real and Barca are complete money machines in a relatively soft league and will always be superpowers at European level.

Soft teams like Eibar - stadium with a capacity of 7,000- and Leganes with a stadium capacity of 10,000. La Liga money is hoovered up by the big two and to a lesser extent by Atletico. They don't have anything close to the resources the bottom half of the EPL can call upon every single year.

Spurs will struggle to attract top player due to their wage structure and are a few top players short of what's needed to win the EPL.

Perhaps the crowd at Chelsea were inspired by that performance, peppered by bad temper, bad tackles and constant moaning from their players at the ref for having the temerity to decide that blatant fouls were properly punished and the odd dive ignored. I'd say that hack by Fabregas was the worst of the weekend in the epl and he only got a yellow for it.
I thought Jon Waters looked sharp enough when he came on as a sub. He'll be need for Ireland's next 2 games.

Is this the earliest ever the league has been over? MU rattling in goals and conceding none. Immensely solid looking with a lot of options in most positions. They'll tidy up all the dross with the loss of very few points in a way the other contenders just can't do, and in typical Mourinho fashion get a draw/win from the rest of the top 5 to keep them at bay. Arsenal are gone and Wenger won't last the season, Spurs can't win 'at home', 'Pool haven't the depth or power, Citeh ageing a bit and not yet comfortable under Guardiola, Chelsea haven't bought under Conte and Costa is a giant pebble in the shoe at the moment. At 23/10 with PPs, United look cracking value.

Mark my words. MU have cruised past Swansea, West Ham and Leicester. All the other main contenders have dropped points already, some to the likes of Burnley, Everton, Watford etc., Citeh relying on a last-minute winner away to Bournemouth. Hard to see that happening to United. Lukaku has been criticised for only scoring against the weaker teams, but that should be well enough, based on results from other seasons.

Leicester would be better than mid table these days i would say. Only played for 2 months last yea and still avoided relegation. League between man united and chelsea i think. As it stands pep will last maximum one more season. Team can't defend.

And Man United won their first 3 games last season and finished 6th. I expect a big improvement from both Manchester clubs this season. Guardiola,Mourinho are top managers and both should know their strengths and weakness of their panels better now and both have bought well in the transfer market. Liverpool will be there or thereabouts also but the extra games in Europe will likely hurt their chances of challenging for the title. I could be wrong but i don't see Chelsea repeating the season they had last year but should still finish in the top 4.

Liverpool are going to make a big challenge this year in both the premier league and the champions league. Chelsea after an opening day hiccup will challenge for the title again this year. Arsenal are finished in terms of challenging for top spot. Man City won't win it either, their defence is not good enough at this point in time. Man U haven't played any of the top sides yet and until they do you can not say they are title contenders or champions in waiting.

I dont know if I would be keen on this one at this point, if you bring him in at 60 plus million, the pressure to play him becomes automatic.
Obviously he is a great player just something about it makes me wary.

Plus I think it is a bit of paper talk anyway and more than likely to stay at Mardid.

TRANSFER KLAXONS!

Seeing as the madness will be taken up ten notches what do we make of it so far?

Arsenal have sold 'The Ox' and now Inter are lining up Mustafi. They have also shipped Gibbs, so they are a bit light.
Renato Sanches to Swansea is a mad one, but if he can lift it, a serious addition.
West Brom getting Gibbs and the Polish lad Kroychowiak is a nice coup.
If it closes and Newcastle and Brighton don't add some goals they are in trouble.

From an Irish point of view Shane Long could need a move as would James McCarthy.

I'm very much in tune with being a results business but that is quite unbelievable if it's confirmed.

Four games, they completely outplayed Burnely who had a great home record last year.

Parish tweeting after the game about sticking together. Incredible. And Roy Hodgson i the favourite to succeed him  :o

That is pathetic. As you say four defeats, two of which were by a single goal away to Liverpool and away against Burnley who have good home records. It really does make you wonder what would have happened with the likes of Paisley, Ferguson etc in the modern era. Would they have lasted their first season without a trophy or been turfed out for Roy f**king Hodgson!

Mendy is a huge loss, think it will have a huge impact.

As for Aguero I have no idea how City let him fly to Amsterdam for a concert on a Thursday night when they've such a big game away on Saturday evening. I think Mendy will be a bigger loss, they've a great replacement for Aguero in Jesus but Delph or Danilo are hardly top class left backs.

I'm not sure Pep is his biggest fan anyway so it'll give him his chance to play his preferred option of Jesus and build his attack around him.

Formidable team but it's not fair play, at least not in the sense that that the FFP rules were brought in to address. It's financial doping as it's now called. City have spent multiple times their true commercial income value on whatever players they want.  Either have proper FFP rules independently assessed by a commercial revenue panel and enforce them or scrap them totally.

That's by the by, how they have turned it around from last year with a couple of good buys is some show! They were struggling at one point last year to manage top four after a flying start... the financial rules are being bent by a lot of clubs, that's out of Utd Liverpool Spurs and Arsenal's hands, what those clubs have to is match them on the pitch as in the money department City hold all the aces

While I find it slightly amusing that a United fan is whinging about FFP, i do agree that something needs to be done. I would like to see something like a salary cap/draft like the NFL or AFL that benefits the worse performing teams the previous year in terms of choice of young players the following year to level the playing field. I think there have been 8 different Superbowl winners in the last ten years. Unfortunately I do not think it would be transferable to soccer because a) the big clubs have too much power and will not give up their advantage and b) the examples I gave above are single country markets predominantly (albeit massive in terms of NFL). If one country's FA decided to implement in their country to make it more competitive, it would disadvantage those teams in the Champions League which given the money involved is never going to happen.

Leaves every team hoping for a Sugar Daddy or else picking up the scraps from the Big boys table. It does make you admire Spurs consistency over the past few years as, although they are by no means short of  a pound, they cannot compete with the likes of Chelsea/Utd/City on the big money transfers.

The draft system is a nice idea, but will never happen in soccer, that horse has bolted.
Something like a salary cap might work better, but all the major leagues would have to agree to it. Its probably unw workable now at this stage as well, with players already tied into long term contracts.

Premier league clubs doing a lot better in Europe, there's a good chance of someone going close on winning it this season and certainly over the next few years.

A big night for Spurs with their point and Dortmund drawing, Spurs will beat the Cypriot team at home so just need one point from Real at home or Dortmund away to qualify.

City could have been 4 or 5 up early on although Napoli were shocking in the first half, defensively all over the place and their final balls was very poor. Several times they could have been in on goal only for poor balls. Napoli very good in the 2nd half and will be disappointed not to come away with a point.

Niasse, unlucky or not?

Unlucky for me, at normal speed it looks a pen and I'm not sure super slow motion does players justice in these situations as it can be hard to see exact contact point. I thought there was enough doubt in it for them not to ban him.

Although something has to be done about diving its a bit strange that something that would only get a yellow card at the time becomes a two match ban after the event?

Didn't see the incident, but the penalty has to be a deterrent, so I've no problem with it being more severe than a yellow card.  It wouldn't be equal to give him a retrospective yellow card, when the initial incident leads to a goal.

definitely unlucky, no doubt he went down easy but there was definite contact and theres been worse examples of diving  this season that have went unpunished. Alot of television/radio pundits seemed to jump on this one and this may have influenced the fa's decision.

Everyone else will playing for 2nd 3rd and 4th. And with even 4th place getting automatic entry to Champions League group stages next season it doesn't really matter where you finish now once your are in that top 4.

Hopefully Pogba gets off on appeal. No malice and merely an accident.

Well Lukaku somehow didn't get suspended for a vicious kick on a Brighton player last weekend so you never know.
If Pogba gets off the whole thing is a joke. As dirty a challange as you will see.

He was in the middle of trying to play the ball when an opponent sprawls his limbs all over the shop. If Bellerin hadnt got himself into such an awkward situation then it wouldn't have happened.

There's a sprawling limb - ah sure that's fair game then...

Bellerin fairly emptied young (i think) before it. Even commentators questioned whether that was retribution.

Young's reaction to pogba's tackle said it all. He knew he was gone.

Aye and I suppose you think it was Haaland's fault for leaving his knee in Roy Keane's way..
Pogba knew what he was doing.

It is hard to see how his tackle is being defended as it wasn't good. It is being defended here which is being countered - hardly a call for a hanging... You do a bad tackle - you get sent off and suspended. Then you move on.

Second is the new first with man city's form so hardly shit ;D

Sorry was typing on the phone and misspelt it but I'm sure you caught my drift.

As far as I see every non united fan on here is calling it for what it is, a dangerous challenge...nobody is stating he should be hung. The only mention of the ban being extended was due to the old appeal rule, that means it may be extended if the player is unsuccessful in his bid to have it overturned.

I found it incredible a referee would admit to essentially tampering with a game's result because he was concerned with the press reaction. If Spurs had three lads who should have been sent off, send them off. It's that simple.

Didn't see the interview in question (the men in blazers show us a little childish for my taste), but he was interesting on his other NBC Sports appearances recently.

Not sure how I feel on this. I mean, everyone knows that referees have a lot of wiggle room when it comes to dishing out cards. And lots commented on how indisciplined and fortunate Spurs were that night. Yes, the press reaction angle is troubling. But I think it's naive to be surprised.

Have to agree - Chelsea have often been on the wrong end of the FA's wrath, often deservedly. But they probably have a right to be outraged here, lest we forget the words of Mourinho in his 2nd stint at Chelsea, "Referees are afraid to give Chelsea decisions". Do you think Clattenberg would have released these comments if someone had of been seriously injured that night? I remember one tackle from Dier on Fabregas was especially nasty.

All this does is fuel paranoia for me, Clattenberg has sank his fellow officials in England.

The last round of group games take place this week in the Champions League and as things stand its quite possible that the 5 Premier League teams will qualify for the last sixteen as group winners. That's no mean feat, its been fashionable to knock it in recent years but Premier League is definitely on the rise again.

Winning the group could be a poison chalice for some though with Real, Bayern, Roma and Juve likely to finish 2nd in their groups

Yeah, due to the hype generated by the Premier League some people look for every chance to bash it.

The league's clubs have undoubtedly unperformed in recent years when you consider the amount of money being spent but they're now very much up there challenging with the big two in Spain and PSG who are also emerging.

To be honest with the amount of dosh in the EPL and the decline of smaller leagues getting all clubs in last 16 should really be a minimum expectation .   Granted 5 teams is a anomoly .  Man U were in a shit group ,  Real Madrid were poor ,  Liverpool's group average ,  Chelsea in an average group .

All of the possession for Man City but i don't see where they should be 3 or 4-0 ahead? The Sane chance before the goal was Man Citys only decent goal scoring opportunity and the goal was error in defence.

Man City error in defence allows United to level it up at half time.

To put it in perspective after 18 games:

City are averaging a point a game more than champions league group winners Liverpool in 4th place and more than a point a game ahead of fellow champions league group winners Spurs.

They have double the points of 8th placed Leicester.

They are also 2 or more points a game ahead of the bottom 5 teams.

19 games played the half way stage. Manchester City 13 points clear the league title as good as won already and will win it for certain probably by early April. Chelsea and Manchester United should finish 2nd and 3rd. A real battle for 4th between Tottenham,Liverpool and Arsenal.

My team of the season so far.

DeGea
Valencia
Otamendi
Alonso
Azpilicueta
Salah
DeBruyne
Coutinho
Silva
Sterling
Kane

Every team bar United and Chelsea are now closer to the relegation zone than they are to City. Can't understand anyone picking a team of the season without Fernandinho.

Son has filled in well when Kane has been out. Kane is good but it feels like Spurs' system is tailor-made to make the lone striker the focal point of everything. The same glowing terms were talked about Bale but if anything Spurs ended up a better side after he left.

yeah your right 'premier league' league records are all that count. Same as calendar year records mean everything. Dixie dean and jimmy greaves' goal scoring records in the top flight dont count because as everyone now knows sky invented football in 1992 and anything that happened before that isn't real.

Anyone that's up to nothing much today BT are currently showing highlights of FA Cup Finals from the late 70s/early 80s back to back...

I can replay every game from then in my mind, who scored, the context, even the build up from 9AM on the telly :) but I'd struggle to name you the finals of the last 10 years, thats how much Sky and the like has desensitised us to football. God be with the days of watching highlights of mid week matches on a Wed night not knowing who'd won or spending your Sat afternoon listening to a poor reception on radio 2 and if your game wasn't the commentary game praying that when they went over to your ground it was for a goal to your side. The teleprinter was a torture too in my mind it always flashed up 'Liverpool 1-0 Rush (90)'

After writing all that I suppose a good few of you are too young to remember those halcyon days :)

Jimmy Armfield, Peter Jones, Alan Green even George Hamilton.. Yeah 3th round of the cup was the highlight for me too

the dreaded teleprinter, i remember doing a bet with Eastwoods (another blast from the past), the 2 from each section part, 10 teams would have got you minimum of £1500 quid or so (depending on the odds it could have been more, but never less) and all the teams were up on the teleprinter, only waiting on one team who on the last call of the video printer were winning one nil.. Morton v Brechin I think, anyways last of the teleprinter came in and all good, went to Classifieds and of course they were a scottish league one game so nearly at the end, i'd my bet counted up only to see the feckers had scored a goal to level it!

As you say, football is completely over the top now... I turn it over at halftime if watching and only watch the football as the pundits are full of crap

Vidiprinter was great. Agonising to wait for. We've become used to always knowing every minute detail of games as it happens. I find myself if I've been busy and missed some results, I avoid news reports/internet and watch highlights without knowing results. I think part of me is rebelling against all this wall to wall coverage of every match.

Any sport in which Sky was involved has been promoted to death .  Darts is a really obvious  example.
Heavy duty sports PR stimulates dopamine in the brain but after a while the effect wears off and it is Huddersfield versus Brighton in the rain.

To be honest i reckon it's ITV that's killing darts, not Sky. The world championship (at the Ally) and premier league made it brilliant viewing. The weekly open in seemingly the exact same venue but a different country, which inevitably sees MvG beat Wright 10-5 in the final, is ITV's forte.

I actually think this year has been good, it will be won by an really outstanding team, playing great football. The other top 4 places is a close contest so far between 5 other good teams and 5 PL teams have made it through to the last 16 of the CL . It has been more entertaininga nd a higher standard this year, than it has been for a while.

No I agree, its just a pity City are so far ahead. I just always enjoy Sky's attempts to make the most meaningless games a "Showdown". The top four battle should keep them sorted this year

If Utd win tomorrow it only closes the gap to 12 points! Ridiculous lead still, plenty goals in this team so they will win league handy.. but any of the other 4 teams will not be guaranteed a top four till the last game... Spurs and Liverpool's form though is very good, between Chelsea and Man Utd for the last position..

As said earlier great price at 2/1

They're not really mid table though are they? They're 5 points and a couple of bad weeks away from the relegation places. Every team below Burnley except probably Everton is still in a relegation battle to some degree...

I'm not sure of the ins and outs of the situation at Watford but if the whole thing with Everton has changed the equilibrium now is the time to change things not March when a slide could be terminal..

It's still strict as ever. Part of France is in the Basque region so they qualify. Inaki Williams' family moved to Bilbao before he was born so that's how he qualifies.

Bilbao are one of the few professional clubs not set up as a corporation also.

It's all over twitter if you want to look there . . . not too many City fans on this forum I don't think.

I'm not a City fan either. It wasn't a red, Pep was out of order, apparently the fan spat at Aguero and Wigan fans are a horrible outfit why they couldn't just enjoy their victory by focussing on their own team I don't kow.

Not much more to say really, Wigan aren't going to win it. It probably helps City in the long run actually.

Was he going mad for the red card though? Still not sure if it was a red or not but can see why it's given. The referee handled it atrociously by taking out the yellow card, getting surrounded and then brandishing a red.

It looks very much like his decision was influenced by the players which is what I'd hazard Pep was losing the rag about!
Title: Re: Premier League 2017/18

The commentators seemed to suggest that the ref was in communication with his linesman and that's what influenced him rather than the Wigan players.  That said, one of the Wigan players clearly barged into him and I'd imagine could get a retrospective ban.

I thought it was the City players who were badgering him and bumping him after the sending off, I counted at least four of them screaming in his face. But that wouldnt fit with the narrative that Pep is white shining light of goodness and eveyone else is just isnt and should be thankful to share the experience of playing against him and his team.

Both feet off the ground and flew into the tackle.you can argue the other way but certainly not a 'shocking decision'

That sort of tackle has been a red for the last decade, if he makes proper contact with the defender there's a good chance he'd be seriously injured.

Spoke to a few blues this morning, none of them have any issue with the sending off.
Title: Re: Premier League 2017/18

I genuinely cant see any argument for it being anything other than a red:
off the ground
not in control
studs showing
agressive
over the ball

Any one of those alone would be red but pile them all together it 100% red.

In a one off game the Arsenal invincibles or one or two of Uniteds teams may beat them but in terms of their overall season the figures don't lie and that's against a good Spurs and Liverpool side, Chelsea reigning champions and a Mourinho United. Behind City the league is as competitive as it's been in a long long time!

I think being 18 points ahead of your nearest rivals would point to a poor league but having so many teams doing well in the CL would say different. A funny league with Liverpool only losing 3 games

Best team ever in the PL!

Fair play to them!!

Think Arsenal 2004 wud bate them.

City will end with more points, and a vastly superior goal difference, in what is most likely a stronger league than 2004.
definitely would argue against it being a stronger league. Man city are miles ahead, liverpool, man utd and spurs are very good teams with good players. Chelsea have slipped a bit but the rest of the teams in the league are all somewhere between very average to very poor.

It's probably not possible for a league that is famously falling down with money to have a weaker bottom half than it did 15 years ago. The cream might leave the league for riches elsewhere, but the next grade down can't be any richer than in England.

We'll see what PL records this City side will break this season. So far they have most consecutive wins: 18

As it stands.

Most wins in a season (38 games): 30, Chelsea (2016–17)  City on 25 wins at the moment.

Most goals scored in a season: 103, Chelsea (2009–10)  City on 83 goals at the moment

Best goal difference in a season: 71, Chelsea (2009–10) City on a 63 GD at the moment

Most points in a season: 95, Chelsea (2004–05) City on 78 points at the moment

Of course as we all know there was football before Premier league but i am too lazy to look back on those records.

If Chelsea fail to beat Tottenham in a few weeks the title race and top four race could be done and dusted by early April. I'm sure SKY and BT sports would prefer their league more competitive than that and not just left to hype up a relegation battle.

They're probably the easiest on the eye of all the Premier League winners and are on course for a record breaking season so I suppose they definitely are in contention for best ever...

But as I said before nobody cares  ;)

Top 4 could be interesting though and the relegation battle may be good though west brom look buggered. The other 2 spots quite open. Chelsea could step up yet for top 4 though at present pardew and conte must be top 2 for the chop.

Spurs play both Chelsea and City in the coming weeks.  They're only 5 points clear of Chelsea right now.  Several other games between top five teams too.  I think goal difference may matter, and that may be part of the reason for Conte's setup today.

Wouldn't be paying much too much attention to points totals, a very limited United team in 12/13 had a similar points total to City do now after 30 games. To be judged as a great team they'll need to win back to back titles or the CL.

Great win for a (12 man ?) United team.

They were value for the win in the second half, but what the hell was the referee watching? Young-  no question that should have been red and a Stonewall penalty.
Pogba lucky to be on the field. 5 or 6 borderline yellows that I saw from United that weren't given as fouls. City Breathing seemed to be a free kick for United.

I don't think I have ever seen anything quite like that.

Just two more points required for Manchester City to become champions now. Man United are not going to win all of their remaining game so in truth the title is already won. Spurs all over the place in defence tonight only lucky they weren't beat 5 or 6-1.

Hope for FA cup?

How can the league be over 4 days after you declared that Man U had a chance ? Where is your credibility ?

No Man City to play next week instead they will be home to Man United side that have already got knocked out of cup competitions this season by Bristol City and Sevilla...

Thats it Man City champions well done to them, no doubt they would prefer to win the title in front of their home fans next week instead of getting it handed to them this afternoon. Hopefully next seasons Premier league title race is a bit more interesting.

Pretty embarrassing that for Man United fans....
Beat City last week but hand them the title this week by being beaten at home by the worst team in the league...

West Brom might have stayed up if they got rid of Alan Pardew earlier. A poor Premier league season where the best was too good for the rest and where the league title and top four places wrapped up by mid April. Sky and BT sports left to hype up the relegation battle with 5 games to play now.

Might have stayed up if they hadnt sacked Tony Pulis?

Even the relegation battle is not looking as close as it was a couple of weeks back..

Saw someone say on twitter that this win is the polar opposite of an Aguero moment, they deserved to win it in front of their own fans next weekend.

Emotions are high after a bad result. I've been there, where you are upset and give a cheap shot, often the truth - but still a cheap shot. Take the result, take a deep breath, go through the pleasantries and say as little as possible and move on.

I think he's 24 and the rule is if you're 23 at the start of the season.

Agree.  But equally it's a joke he didn't win it if that's the rule.  If the criteria is anyone who is 23 at the start of the season is eligible, and it's best performing player from that group wins it, then Kane surely was a shoe in???.  They made a mockery of their own rules.  Definitely should be lowered to 21.

I agree. Based on the rules, as ridiculous  as they are, Kane should probably have won it. 21 at the start of the season would be more appropriate age for young player of the year though.

I merely mentioned it was a shambles due to the fact that he was head and shoulder above the other nominees.  The rules are crazy but if he meets their criteria (which he did) then he was a cert for the award.  Sane wasn't close to him.

Honestly, and it pains me to say this, but Sterling has had a better season than Kane in terms of overall impact. Kane scores goals in bursts. He will go 3-4 games at a time and score 2 in each game and then not score for a few games at a time. The wee Judas shite has been consistently scoring and assisting the whole season.

Kane has been consistently scoring all season too though, bar a quiet August.  Can't see the argument for Sterling over Kane.  Kane has been directly involved in more goals than Sterling.

My worry is that Liverpool will do their best to make it interesting.. :( :(

Ha, I was also gonna say we'll have 4 days of Liverpool fans saying it's not over yet  :)

I actually think Liverpool might have been better needing to win on Sunday. At least then they would have come out on the front foot which is when they have played their best football. I can see 80 minutes of dull football with Liverpool having about 75% possession but no chances with everyone watching themselves for the champions league final. Brighton get a corner and Moreno, who was brought on to help close it out, volleys one into the top corner of his own goal....
