My wife uses fabric softener. I never knew what that stuff was for.

Then I noticed women coming up to me, sniffing, then saying under their breath, "Married!" and walking away.

Fabric softeners are how our wives mark their territory. We can take off the ring. But, it's hard to get that April Fresh scent out of your clothes.

Math problems from a North Korean school textbook during Kim Il Sung's reign.

"If 17 boys and 18 girls are singing anthems of praise to Kim Il Sung, how many children are singing altogether?"

"A girl has a basket with 5 apples in it. She meets an American soldier. He steals 3 apples. How many apples does she have left?"

From Nothing to Envy by Barbara Demick. An awesome book by the way.

And the caveat from the originator, Simon Anholt:

The Good Country Index doesn't measure what countries do at home: not because I think these things don't matter, of course, but because there are plenty of surveys that already do that. What the Index does aim to do is to start a global discussion about how countries can balance their duty to their own citizens with their responsibility to the wider world, because this is essential for the future of humanity and the health of our planet.

So it's not at all about the experience of actually living in the country, but all about how it's perceived to measure up on the global stage.

Without delving into the detail, my guess is that we are tops because we export Guinness. And Aran sweaters.

Our chief export is listed as - The Craic.

It also says that the EU are investigating to see if we are properly taxing The Craic. "We understand that companies such as Mocrosoft and Apple are having the Craic in Ireland and that Anglo had The Craic for years before that. But we must ensure that Ireland honours its fiscal commitments and endeavours to tax The Craic properly" said a source, who didn't wish to be named as he said he was only having The Craic.
