Title: Darwin Award candidates

Couldn't find a similar current thread, although there were a couple of attempts 6 years ago:

Anyway, here is a recent contender:

Britain's 'worst speeding offender' jailed after video showed him driving at 192 mph

6 November 2015 Last updated at 11:24 GMT

A man, thought to be Britain's worst speeding offender, has been jailed after filming himself driving at 192mph (309 km/h) on a Northamptonshire road.

Shaun Davis, 42, of Woodpecker Drive, Northampton, was found guilty at Northampton Crown Court of four counts of dangerous driving on roads including the A45, between 2012 and 2014.

Northamptonshire Police said his face could not be seen on the films and he had claimed it was not him on the footage.

After the hearing the charity the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) described Davis' actions as "criminally dangerous".

True.

But in the pure spirit of Darwinism, you shouldn't have to die, but simply rule yourself out of the evolutionary process. Like finding yourself in jail often for example.

That is also a candidate for the best headlines thread.

I like the comment that the driver of the car hit by the 80kmph shopping trolley was taken for blood and urine testing.

During the Woodland Town Council meeting, one local man, Bobby Mann, said solar farms would suck up all the energy from the sun and businesses would not go to Woodland, the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald reported.

Jane Mann, a retired science teacher, said she was concerned the panels would prevent plants in the area from photosynthesizing, stopping them from growing.

This surely is a hoax!

Father died 'after downing whole bottle of tequila for a bet'
Anna Schaverien,The Telegraph 5 hours ago

A 23-year-old Dominican man has died of alcohol poisoning after reportedly downing a whole bottle of tequila in one go for a £520 bet.

Kelvin Rafael Mejía approached a group at a nightclub in the Dominican Republic and bet that he could down a whole bottle of the Mexican alcohol, according to local media reports.

Mr Mejía completed the challenge and received his winnings of 30,000 pesos (£520).

But minutes later he became unable to stand and the young man collapsed in the club's toilets and later died in hospital. The medical examiner confirmed that Mr Mejía had died of alcohol intoxication.

Local news outlet El Día reported that Mr Mejía had a two month old daughter.

A video of the 23-year-old's challenge has been shared extensively on social media.

The clip shows other nightclubbers at Vacca Lounge cheering Mr Mejía on as he drinks, while others film him.

Elis Gómez, the owner of the nightclub in the city of La Romana has distanced himself from the event.

The nightclub owner told news agency EFE that Mr Mejía, a regular at the club, took it upon himself to bet a group he could complete the challenge.

Local police have closed Vacca Lounge temporarily so that an investigation can be carried out into Mr Mejía's death.

However no arrests have been made.

The aunt of Mr Mejía, Sandra Perozo, said that his death should serve as an example to young people that "not everyone who says they are a friend is really your friend."
