Title: Commonwealth Games
Post by: Orior on April 05, 2018, 01:44:21 PM
England have won six gold medals on Day One.

This means that, of all the countries which England invaded as part of their empire building project, none of them can run or swim as quick as the english. Hurrah!

If they could, they wouldn't have been invaded :)

And the locals unhappily discovered what happens when you're discovered.

Had Ireland been able to count to ten back then, it also would have invaded other lands, but we much prefered to be invaded

And a descendant of a native who had his land confiscated in 1610 (Ochaidh O'Hanlon, Lord of Orior), led the northern Irish team on their parade. That's cause we don't hold grudges in Armagh :-)

I'm having nothing to do with their British Empire Games.

Feather-strutting Brits trying to show how many places in the world they fcuked over and enslaved. No thanks.

Look its a tournament, Brits have been trying to strut their stuff for years and that wont change, but for some of these local grown competitors this is a fantastic event that may lead to bigger and better things or just to have a great expeirence, competing against world champions might not happen for these people, so I wouldnt dish these games.

But I understand peoples feelings for all things Britian but its a tad boring

For those who participate its a useful stepping stone to perhaps bigger things.

Like most of our baxers came through that route, so they did.

I've no bother for someone to use it as a stepping stone to better things or a professional career. I wouldn't criticise anyone personally for representing Norn Iron. It's just not my thing, and I won't be watching any of it.

Thanks for taking the time to let everyone know.

We have close family friends on the netball team so will be watching and supporting where possible. Will have to scold myself for the quasi endorsement of global British tyranny.

My next door neighbour used to go to the games, weightlifting, he was alright at it and obviously at a standard that could compete, but he said the craic was getting there and enjoying it, the sports village was one big party place!

So when you were knockout of your event early then they could have a few drinks and enjoy the experience... He did mention there was lots of fit people (can't say birds anymore, otherwise Sid will be on to me) having consensual parties

Worst competition ever dreamt up and continued by a fallen empire.

Going on about medal tables and how great it is.

Major shock for England today as the Brownlees failed to get medals in the triathlon. Looks like general injuries due to wear and tear over a period of time have caught up on them.

Och sure what harm is there in it? Most of the former colonies all seem to want to participate. It's okay to let people enjoy things.

NI win their first medal on the track since 1986 (and first athletics medal since 1990) with Leon Reid's bronze in the 200m.  English favourite Zharnel Hughes was disqualified from 1st place moving Reid up from 4th.

Great stuff 3 medals for norn iron that will show those f**kers from Naura all 10000 of them who kick ass meanwhile back in reality wales have 25 medals and Scotland have 35. Its embarrassing at least in the good old days we won medals in boxing, bowls, shooting and kneecapping.

How blatant was the 'winner' nudging the guy in the next lane? totally put him off and in a photo finish the other runner would have won!

Thought that myself, although the panel on the BBC were trying to say it was an accident. FFS it was like something you'd see on a GAA field, arm across the man running beside you.
Right decision all day long.

Yes, totally the right decision.  Hughes was tying up badly in the last 15 metres and his action looked deliberate to me (and the judges)

Born in England.  Birth mother from Belfast and adopted by a woman from Wexford.  He applied to transfer from GB to Ireland and all paperwork was passed but the IAAF have halted all transfers while they look into countries like Bahrain, Qatar and Turkey having a load of Kenyans and Ethiopians in their teams.  He's effectively unable to represent any IAAF member at the moment and it looks like he won't be able to run for Ireland in the Euros in Berlin in August

I was up watching the marathons last night and the womens race finished without any complications. So Hawkins the Scot was leading by a good distance with not too far to go in the mens race. I said he has this in the bag and went to bed. Then I wake up this morning to find out he collapsed. The second time in a week (after Juventus) that I wrote off  the chances of a sporting comeback and turned off the tv to go do something else.
