Compared to, say, 5 years ago, how has your Christmas preparations suffered this year, if at all, due to the current economic climate?

Will there be less nights out?  Will Santa be less generous?  Or will you be largely unaffected?

General discussion / After the Grim Reaper, then what?
November 10, 2010, 07:07:03 PM
I know its not a particularly upbeat topic, but I have recently been thinking alot about whether or not there is an after life, or is it all over when we go into the hole?

Due to recent events both on here and at home, I have been wondering firstly what lies beyond, if anything, and secondly what the majority of ordinary people from my cultural background really believe?

I would guess that alot of us adopt the ostrich approach when it comes to this difficult question.  We dutifully file into Mass for 35 minutes each week, and don't give a second thought to religion unless something extraordinary happens in our lives.  Do many of us go through life without really trying to think about or understand what lies in store, if anything?

How many of us buy into the traditional teachings of a Heavenly Paradise and a Hell?  Is this simplistic thinking really enough to answer any questions we may have?

Is there some sort of higher consciousness to which we are some how connected, or are we simply here by biological chance, for 3 score and 10?

Or should I just shut up and read the Horse Racing thread and stop talking shit?   :)

Very powerful program on Channel 4 tonight, featuring people trapped in the tower calling their loved ones.  Got me thinking, if put in a similar situation, who would I call and what would I say?

What about you guys?

GAA Discussion / GAA Betting - All Info Appreciated.
November 03, 2008, 10:40:38 PM
In these dark days of financial meltdown, true gaels can be found, huddled in corners, swopping nuggets of info as they plot the downfall of the bookie.

With the club championships in full swing, a little local insight could prove invaluable to gaaboard punters as they strive to raise funds for heating oil, diesel and porter.

This thread should provide a forum for us to share such valuable nuggets, so as we can all hammer the bookie.

I'm watching The Sunday Game and my enjoyment is being destroyed by that triumphal w**ker!  His every sentence serves to brag Kerry and belittle every one else.

OK, Kerry are a class apart, we all know that.  All the more reason to sit back and listen, rather than dig and dig.

And his hair is awful too!  ::)
