Brought that on themselves.. Still long odds on to win group and only a 5-0 reverse at home to Moscow combined with Basel winning in Benfica would stop United qualifying.

BT reckon it'd take a seven goal defeat for United not to go through..

That would be correct...if CSKA and Basel win the next day, it comes down to a mini-league between the games of those three teams.  Basel have played the four games with 6 points and a goal difference of -1.  CSKA have played 3 and goal difference is -4, with United played 3, goal difference +4.   For United to finish third, they must lose by 7 or more and Basel win their last game away to Benfica.  If Basel draw or lose United will be second if they lose by more than 3 at home to CSKA, whom they beat 4-1 away.  CSKA go top as well with a three goal with while scoring 5 or more at Old Trafford.  A 4-1 win is not enough for CSKA to overtake United, as the tie-breaker goes to all the way to the sixth (goal difference in all group games) and neither will a 3-0 CSKA win help as United have the away goal.

So avoid a 7 goal loss sees United through.  Lose by 2 or less and they will still top the group.

Put a team out to draw and you'll get bate! Shoulda went for it and rest up on last match! Only positives can be more game time for the lads coming back from injury

Listened to it on the radio.. hit the post a few times and overall 65% possession, yes but unless you put ball in the net all those near misses mean feck all... United hammered Arsenal one year in the FA cup final, still got beat! How many chances does it take ?

I think his point is that on the first half performance it is obvious that they were not 'put out to draw'.

Not a great result but will have no effect in the grand scale and I still expect Utd to top the group.

Dont give a monkeys about the result last night has no bearing on the group as far as United are concerned.

Fellaini has two clear cut headers which on most other days both would have ended up in the net, it was all too easy in the first half. Probably a bit of complancency set in afte half time and Basel were a good bit better.

Positives, Pogba again looked to be coming back strong, Rojo looked quick and sharp and more minutes for Ibra.

Couple of big weeks coming up so will need the squad all firing.

Brighton unlucky they didn't get a draw out of that game, they are so well organized under Chris Hughton and he has to be on ROI radar down the line.  As for United 10 home games this season 10 wins, 28 goals scored and just 2 conceded fairly decent record there.

Captain Obvious

Manchester have now gone 39 games in all competitions without defeat at Old Trafford only PSG 42 games have a better unbeaten home record in Europe.

Was at the game on Saturday and Utd were blessed to get the win. Still can't figure out what system or plan they are trying to play. Pogba disappears for 10/1145 spells and then produces a couple of great passes, Mata floated around a bit, Rashford anonymous bar two runs, Ashley Young was probably the best on view in terms of influencing the game and Lukaku got more frustrated the longer the game went on.
Think he'll park the bus against City in a couple of weeks and frustrate them.

Impressed with Brighton alright neat and tidy in possession, quick counters and if Murray was a yard faster they'd be a real threat in front of goal.

Still second place after a third of the season so not to be sniffed at

Captain Obvious

Two fine strikes by Ashley Young.

Arlene and Gregory have already phoned in complaints re his IRA terrorist goal celebration and Jeffrey is raising in Parliament tomorrow.

Let's attack a bit more and put it to bed, though Watford have played well
