As a Laois man, I've no great desire to see Kildare going well (not that we're even on their radar anymore) but surely O'Connor has done a decent job with Kildare this year? Promotion to Division 1 and a Leinster final spot.

MacKenna might amazingly have got something wrong! ;D

O'Connor has done a solid job, with the players available and the draw for both league and championship he has delivered what was expected. Get a performance in the Leinster final and keep Kildare in Division 1 next year then we have progress and hope is restored. Kildare would be in the 9th to 12th best team the country group. Getting to 5th to 8th is the challenge since Geezer was moved on.

Kildare still looking disjointed in the championship. Depending on individuals rather than a finely tuned tactical system. Neil Flynn again today and Dan Flynn really stood up. The loss of Feeley, Hoolohan and Doyle caused disruption that Westmeath couldn't take advantage of. Westmeath kicked 10 wides, just bad shot selection for most. Kildare created about 6 goal chances which was a positive. Free shot at Dublin who look unsettled, best chance for Kildare since 2011 and the phantom free.

A good win for Kildare in the end a superb performance from Neil Flynn with 1-7 and I have to say that was the worst refereeing performance I've seen I years some of the frees given to Offaly were scandalous it was Cormac Reilly levels of bad. Great to see such guts and fight in second half previous kildare teams would self destruct when things were going against us these boys dug in well and deserved the win for the second half performance. Will need to be better the next day against Westmeath especially after the hiding they gave Laois.

He was bad for both teams I thought, we were Dublinesque with our steps at times. The red card was farcical though.

Oh to be in Ulster or Connacht and genuinely believe you have a chance at provincial honours. Finished with a very young team today. Kildare's attitude was good, Meath look like they need to freshen up management. Old heads pulled them back into it and remarkable considering Kildare's dominance for 60 mins almost pulled something out of it but not what you want to see when trying to develop and build a squad. So many teams lie between 3rd ranked and 14th ranked that it would be an exciting championship if Dublin and Kerry didn't exist. Well maybe just Dublin.

Raised by Wolves on Sky is pretty good Sci Fi drama.

That last episode though  >:(

The Expanse - the best Sci-Fi out there. The Wire of it's genre.
New series released on Amazon there before Christmas, not as good as previous (so far). Was reading Amazon are funding 1 more series and that's it.

Jesus I thought the latest episode of the The Expanse(S5E3) was brilliant.  :-[

If Arsenal can will tonight they will only be 6 points behind title challengers Chelsea  :o

One good midfielder away from a decent side that could win the Europa Cup.

A lot of talk about Aouar. Can't comment on him but he seems to be a clever player, but so was Havertz and he hasn't set the place alight in Chelsea. Still think the defence is dodgy

Arsenal have only conceded two goals from set-piece all season, and one of those was an own-goal. Their problem has been scoring goals. And as you imply it's that lack of a creative midfielder. Players take time to settle, human nature and I imagine this Covid-19 bubble is even harder for now players.

Prisoners is a great movie.   And unlike many "twisty" movies (e.g., "Gone Girl"), it doesn't depend solely on the twists. The story is great, and it's really well acted.

+1 A great show.

The best thread in 2020. Best wishes BH and happy Christmas to all board members. May 2021 be as kind as 2020 was harsh.

Article in Irish news today, very interesting .
Down , a midrange county in football and hurling in terms of success, has the 4th largest population in Ireland , we receive the least amount of games development grant from Croke park , of all 32 counties. Logistics wise we have challenges as football training is based at southern extreme of the county and uniquely most of our hurlers have to get a ferry to train on a 100 x60 4g pitch. We were beaten by a point in the AI final of 2010, just before Dublin's decade of financial and playing dominance. Each year we have to negotiate our way past the likes of Donegal Monaghan Tyrone Armagh mostly away from home. How on earth can we expect to match the Dublin giant?
I cheered Dublin in 2011 v Kerry , have Dublin family , so I definitely am not anti-Dublin. In 2011 little did I suspect that the GAA had created a monster.
I plead with Dublin  supporters on this thread to propose a fair solution to this farce rather than blindly defending the indefensible .
I've proposed at least four solutions

i) No Dublin matches in Croke Park outside of League finals, Leinster finals, All-Ireland semis/finals - and potentially you could look at taking even some of those out of Croke Park
ii) Reduction back to three subs per game
iii) Sponsorship redistribution, ie. each county keeps 50% of sponsorship money, 50% to a central pool to be divided equally per county, the details would have to be worked out but that's the principle
iv) Revamp the league to a Division 1A, 1B, 2A 2B format as per most of the 2000s - this gives a more even spread of competition for each county

Retaining centralised mileage payments should help as well

The rest really is up to counties themselves

Impressive. This is like Brevity. We are finding a middle ground.

Unusually at this level Kildare were well beaten on the physical stakes. Offaly were comfortable here, good full back, good midfield, Keith O'Neil was tidy up front, not marquee but good footballer.

No Center of excellence
The hurlers play in a shithole
Failed to grow the game between the canals
The smaller clubs have shit facilities while the bigger clubs get bigger and bigger!

This is the model everyone else has to aspire too?

Amazing how Dublin GAA keep pulling the wool over everyone's eyes.

I'm confused. Are you talking about Kildare or Dublin? Dub hurlers play in Parnell Park. That's not a shithole. Now if you're talking about Kildare's ground in Newbridge, then fair enough. That's a shithole.

Very hard to start a new GAA club in any county as players/people already have allegiances to a club. Also whatever about Kildare, but land prices in Dublin makes it virtually impossible for a club to buy the land needed to build clubhouse/pitches.

Mate, Parnell Park is a shithole, shit parking, shit facilities.

So excuses.
