I think the chat over transfer fees is a bit silly, who spent the most and who's get the best value out of their new signings, I'd say to a man that Liverpool would rather have been in UTD's position these last 20 years than where they have been.

I don't think BR actually made this choice, in getting Mario, he doesn't fit into the formations he's been playing (which has brought him success, not actual trophy success ;) )

As for this season Liverpool will come close again, if they win the big games or hold their own against City, Chelsea and Arsenal at Anfield then they will have a chance again. To be fair to BR if he can facilitate all these players coming in (was easier when they had only the league and domestic cups to worry about, smaller squad) and keep them fighting for their place, then Liverpool will be a force again.

I personally feel that they havent added enough to their squad to cope with the challenge of European football and chasing the league in the same season. Maybe Mario is the nugget that will drive them toward it but I have my doubts, just always remember how many times United struggled the weekend after a big European encounter, but a lot of that can be down to the fixture list being kind as well.

Top 4 again would be an acievement. I just can't see how they'll be able to juggle both the Champions League and Premier League after losing Suarez. The likes of Man City and Chelsea are able to cope with injuries loss of form. Think they need to do an Arsenal and prioritise finishing top 4 over the Champions League this year as finishing outside would be a massive set back.

Man City or Chelsea didn't want Sturridge....Worked out pretty well for Liverpool.

Why, what have they won with him?

Cheaper than Shane Long, Soldado, Torres, cost the same as Giroud, etc etc. Mind you, he was 2m more expensive than Bebe.

If he gets close to 20 goals a season he'll be a success for an outlay of 14m. My worry is that he's not the type that will work hard which will put pressure on the others to play the pressing game. I'm optimistic that the kop will inspire him though. For the money it's worth the risk I think.

The Brewery Tap is harder to get out of than get in to.

was asked to leave that pub one day, went down to an U21 final and never quite made the match. thanks for bringing back a day i'd rather forget, nothing to do with being barred, just that the final was lost.

Lucas was always kak. He just looked good for a while when he was playing with the likes of Spearing, Poulson and Charlie Adam. Kuyt was another that went from being one of the worst to being one of the best. Being dropped from that Brazilian squad tells you all you need to know.

Incorrect - he was very very effective in the team for a year and a half or so. Broke up attacks, always available for the pass, protected the back four very well. Now he just get bypassed and is shocking in the tackle and trying to move the ball

This good season was when Liverpool were finishing 7th or worse? Was never good enough for a team with top four aspirations. An extremely limited player whose stock rose because of the dross around him in the Hodgson\Kenny era.

Can't see the Eto'o thing at all. An old guy on big wages for the short term? Not exactly strategic planning.

Would be a short-term fix and smack of desperation.  Okay if we have a few striking options and he's there in case of injuries etc.  but otherwise not an option.  We only have Sturridge and Lambert really (presuming Borini leaves) so it's looking light up front.  Would worry about Sturridge getting injured.

Short term fix and probably a last resort. Not much out there so better to wait until someone good becomes available rather than panic buy like they did with Andy Carroll. FSG won't get screwed like that again. They seem to be going for young promising players who have the right attitude. 20m for Bony and rumours that he wants 100k a week? cheeky sod should prove he's worth it first before trying that on. Would stay away from him.

General discussion / Re: The IRISH RUGBY thread

Being a rugby hater I'm not sure do I want them to win or lose, think a win is preferable, seeing the women do what the so called men couldn't is probably the lesser of 2 evils.
