Laois / Re: The Future for Laois Football
October 20, 2023, 09:25:06 AM
Hi I have no argument in Justin's appointment.  Except my long held belief we should be trying to promote Laois based managers.  But my question how exactly is Justin a massive appointment ?  His previous spell in Laois I'd argue was 7 out of 10, he was very professional and there was a good culture in the squad.  But even at time it was a style of football which at the top level was reaching its sell by date.  So to move to now, how is Justin a massive appointment ?  He to my knowledge hasn't been involved at top level GAA in quite sometime, Laois are going to lose quite a few this year.  The conveyor belt coming through is poor.  So to say a massive appointment  ? His a gamble,  As it seems for whatever reason the powers that be do not want to give it to Billy o Loughlin or Eddie Kinsella.  They may be proved right the only positive is that we now have severally lowered expectations to a point where getting out of Div 4 is seen as a breakthrough.

I'm sure he will find a love for Laois if the price is right Tony.

Keep making the same mistakes, keep getting the same results.  If you point out these errors you get told you're disloyal or an idiot.  If you try to change things you are worn down by those who don't want change.  Sorry I'm not optimistic , but I don't see Laois Hurling or Football going anywhere.  If only a change of manager could sort it.

Sometimes I feel so pissed off about it all but I genuinely think at this stage nobody really wants change.

Yep

To be honest I don't know about this management, personally feel it's hard to be worse than the last one.

Billy another year,  means less than 200 fans at Senior Inter County Matches, his actually costing us every game he manages in fan apathy.

Under Sugrue there was progress, under Sheehan there was regression.  Sugrue took us out of Div 4, Sheehan took us into Div 4.  He also managed to keep us there.  Sheehan only rebuilt in panic, Sugrue was quite methodical in his rebuilding.  I think we over do Sugrue but there is no doubt we were improving this is a shit show.

Billy hardly will try to hold on, no resignation.

A question ?, has anyone seen or heard on Social Media the players being abused as far as I am aware the only people that are getting stick is the management.  I firmly believe this group under Sugrue would at least get to a tailteann cup semi.  I doubt Billy will be around much longer, but stranger things have happened.  The above question is every time Billy talks it's about players getting stick which I don't think they are.

I would say it here Laois would get to a tailteann cup semi under a half decent manager.  There are problems in Laois Football but this is a joke.  A bad one

When I said this was a dreadful appointment at the County Board Meeting two years ago I was told Billy was a proud Laois Man and to shut up.  I also told Peter O Neill he was ruining my enjoyment of football.  Nobody batted an eyelid at this appointment, it's a disgrace.  Easy say the players but at U20 they are performing reasonably well without being world beaters.  Today's performance was bottom of the barrell so I think management is solely to blame.

No major surprise yesterday in Carrick . Game management is nonexistent . Even when when we scored 6 in a row you always knew Leitrim were going to score every time they got forward.
Huge lack of depth on the panel and a couple of forwards carrying us . But we already know all this . Billy will be gone this summer and we start again .

Division 4 is our level and promotion is very much out of our hands regardless of London result .

Hope Lowry is ok . Looked a nasty old knock .

That chestnut of this is our level, no it's not not.  This has been a farce since last year but no one as yet has the balls to pull it.

Decent result today.

Lack of goals would be a concern because we're not keeping them out!

Here we go

He isn't very good, I know we're average but so are Longford.  Doesn't matter he will prob stick out his best team on Sat.  We win, crisis over till Sligo match.  I explained this years ago, Club Football will now take precedent in Laois so as we don't have to acknowledge how bad we are.  25 years ago we were on the edge of a golden age, 1 Leinster in hindsight was a poor return.   I like a lot of lads on the County Board personally but questions have to be asked.
