World Cup tournaments. '82 and '86 were seminal events. '84 Euro championships were great also. Middleweight boxing was at it's peak in the 80s probably too.

The dutch in '88 were pretty magical too.

The only sport that was clearly much better back then is F1. More risks, more crashes, more unpredictability. Engineers and health & safety have combined to ruin it.

For any other sport, it's just your mind playing tricks.

More deaths as well though. I remember the shock when Senna died.

Is horse racing any different than 25 years ago?

The Grand National definitely is.

Course records get quicker all the time too, so the standard must be getting better, if not more competitive.

Show jumping was huge as a tv sport, some riders were household names such as Eddie Macken, David Broome, Harvey Smith who was famous for giving the judges the two fingers :D

Also the old Top Ace handball tournament on RTE presented by Mick Dunne

Sports nowadays can pretty much be categorised into two distinct groups. Sports (one that have changed very little in 50 years) and sky sports (sports that have changed very little in 50 years but are hyped to the bollocks).
Fantasy Rugby World Cup Champion 2011,
Fantasy 6 Nations Champion 2014
