Title: Alan Davidson?
Post by: Realmccoy on April 06, 2015, 10:37:21 PM
What is the story with this guy he is apparently left the soccer for the gaa. He is currently playing club football in a Down. Tony McEntee in his Irish Examiner article mentioned he was brilliant in a 7 aside tournament in Crossmaglen. Maybe Jim mcCrory should have a look at him.

A forward, an outstanding soccer player. Very good underage gaelic player too for Wpoint before he disappeared.

Davidson has totalled something like 3-14 over his last two D2 games, and there's no doubt about his ability. He would need to be judged over a longer period, and against better opposition, but he may well be capable of playing at a higher level.

Once a soccer head-they tend to stay that way.

Still and all, Peter Withnell didn't do us any harm back in the day.

I been told by a senior county official he is on the watch list and that he has got himself physically in great shape. He could be a nice addition to the squad before Derry!

And Senior County Officials just give out that
sort of info all the time.  :) Catch yourself on!

Firstly I know I had the conversation with a person and secondly that person is well up the food chain with the county. If you have a problem believing me that ok just go  and annoy someone else with your negative thoughts. This forum is about ebb and flow of conversation not insults. It can be interesting why not try it?

I see what you're saying but by the same token why wouldn't they give this sort of info? There's no benefit in keeping it 'top secret' so I wouldn't see the problem with it.

I often hear around the club that some of our lads who play soccer are being watched by Celtic, Everton etc and there is no truth whatsoever in it, just fathers/clubs pushing a certain agenda.  Something similar here.

I think it's all part and parcel of the summer build up. A little bit of speculation between the league and championship keeps the fires burning in the hearts and minds of the supporters.

Maybe we could give him a run at the county secretary position, I hear there may be a vacancy in the not too distant future.

Well you're the man who has promised to personally remove the secretary from his position.

The sad part of this is that Sean McAteer spent more time on the pitch during the championship than Alan Davidson. It's even sadder that some of you accept this without question. It is after all The Down Way.

I don't understand the workings of the county board or the intricacies of development squads and 5 year plans well enough to be able to post on it (and neither do most people on the board, I think), but I know enough to recognise  a gobshite when I see one. If you're going to personally remove Sean Og McAteer, like you said, then fire ahead and make sure you credit it to 'The Down Way' when you do.

So you are happy enough with the status quo?

The players, those who matter most, have shown how unhappy they are with the current set up. We have a better team not playing for a variety of reasons.

Maybe you are happy too with our underage structures, it's been a great year altogether. Another long summer watching everyone else.
