Quote from: LC on February 15, 2024, 06:07:27 PMIts gonna take a few £million just to clear the site.

I wonder how Stormont dodged the procurement rules on this.

Obviously some contractor is being handed a blank cheque and no doubt will fill their boots.

And: you know this:- or you are just saying?

Just saying.

Yes in private sector you can mobilise a contractor fairly quickly as it is your own money ultimately.  Different ball game when it comes to public sector with the need for transparency and what not.

For all you know there could be a couple of government departments who need to shift capital money before the end of the year so this could be a win win for them.

Procurement law went out the window when Covid came, cant see Casement as being as critical though.

I'm not so sure on that...Private or Public sector is a minefield...Any big jobs such as Casement will have the big guns after it, it will have to be tendered with a PQQ first of all to eliminate the list down to usually 5 Contractors. Then the Principal Contractor will be selected from a team of different Professionals from Funding(Government Department), GAA, Consultant/Designer and a few more who will score each Tender based on price, experience, skills etc etc. Even then I have seen Contractors challenge the decision in Court and win their case...

Having said all of the above that's on normal schemes and Casement is def not normal, this scheme has went on for that long I lost interest in it a long time ago but there is something in the back of my wee pea brain telling me that there was a Contractor appointed for the scheme and they had to be paid a % as part of the Contract which went on for years but I think they may have either went tits up or pulled out...genuinely can't remember...For some strange reason the DUP guy over this wouldn't answer a question yesterday about if a Contractor had already been appointed. Basically a sh1t show.
My line of work involves large Civil Engineering schemes which have included stadium Designs so this had me really interested in all of this at the start but that dwindled as the years went on and lost interest in it, I also remember discussing Casement with one of the top Stadia Safety Officers in the Mainland UK who knew about the shambles of Casement from over there and knew all about their safety issues way back at the start. No one over the water wanted to know anything about this design for a reasons not to be discussed.

Donegal v Fermanagh Home win
Cork v Cavan Draw
Meath v Louth away win
Kildare v Armagh Away win

Some tough games this weekend, based on form my predictions shouldn't be far away but after a few games teams generally realise they have to get their finger out and results can change from previous weeks and form.
Can Meath and Kildare get their finger out?.
Can Cavan and Fermanagh keep up their good start?.
Will Donegal and Armagh pull away from the rest?.

The display's recently (most of the year TBH) are a worry and cause for concern, I keep thinking things will click and we'll turn the corner but we'r now 2/3's thru the season and it doesn't look likely now. There are so many things wrong atm that it's hard to point we're going wrong. Our only saviour for this season is Sevco are every bit as shit as us and therefore should be an exciting end to the season minus the quality.
Without making excuses but without a fit CCV at the back that has been a big loss, Hatate gives us the spark who has been injured all season and not replacing Jota with real quality is massive. Our wing play is rank rotten atm, Abada's head is back in Israel or somewhere else but not in Glasgow. Palma is an individual player and not a team player and I just can't have him. Kyogo is so low in confidence he's like a different player...We are nothing like last years team and that's why we look ordinary...IMHO

Quote from: imtommygunn on February 05, 2024, 04:55:34 PMFitzmaurice reckons the mckenna cup a big factor in that in that it os much better preparation than the other pre-season competitions.

Fair point. Very competitive.

I think it's a stupid point. It's competitive because the managers of the teams made it competitive. It didn't magically become competitive. If managers in Munster wanted to make their pre season competitive then it's entirely up to them to do it.

Exactly, we changed our line almost completely for each game of the O'Byrne Cup, younger lads are out playing Siegerson instead.

To be fair we're in the all Ireland series anyway so what we do in the league and Leinster won't change that.

O'Rourke can bide his time until then but we should be challenging for Division 1 if we're going to do anything in the summer. Though when Colm was playing Sean Boylan never took the league that seriously. I wonder if that's Colm's perspective too.

Serious question here as i don't know the answer...So Meath are in for Sam this year for winning the Tailteann Cup and for that reason are not taking the league as serious as the rest of the teams in Division 2 (well not yet, maybe the last 2-3 games). I get that too. However, if Meath were to get relegated from Div 2 and we all know you're not going to win Leinster never mind Sam, will that mean for 2025 for being in Div 3 you will be back in the Tailteann Cup?.

Benny, yeah would def recommend it. Albir/Altea and Calpe are all pretty close together so wouldn't matter which town you stayed in. Some great climbs around and it's got very popular with the Pro's the last few years. Bumped into a few of them last year. If you decide to go I can email you a lot of the rides from Strava and you can upload them onto your Garmin. There are so many different climbs it's unreal, I've been twice and still haven't done them all.
I suppose a big factor too is the cost...We stay in Albir and it's a lot cheaper than France, I'm going back there at the end of April and it cost around £660 for half board, flights and airport connections.

Palma for me has to be dropped and I reckon he wouldn't care too much. Abada is very poor too and I think our wing play has a lot to do with Kyoto's form. Maeda and Kuhn have to our two wingers with Vata to come on as a replacement. LB is a problem but we didn't realise how much we miss Taylor even though he needs an upgrade but how bad is Bernie 🤷♂️. Genuinely I think we shit in the nest and handed them the incentive, we're gonna have to beat them home and away to win the league as we'll drop more points probably starting at Easter road during the week 🤦♂️

Dublin will be heading home wondering how the hell they lost that game. Lucky enough goal and soft free at the end got mayo the 2pts. The refereeing decisions in games are so inconsistent as O'Shea was fouled 5-10 mins before that and got nothing, then got a soft free immediately afterwards like he was making up for his mistake. Still a decent game for start of February with 2 good teams who will be there or thereabouts when the medals are handed out👏

Really enjoyed that, Tony is some man for one man. There's not too many out there who could say they didn't like that man. Great family man and very proud of his roots

Hatate injured playing for Japan earlier with CCV injured again. This is gonna go belly up. Can see it from a mile away. The Aberdeen striker (Miovski) would have been worth a punt, yes he'll cost us £4 or £5m but he's only 24 and could be an asset.

Young lad from Castlederg Daire Corry is supposed to be half decent. Get him on the Tyrone panel and see how he fares out.

The club really are in a mess, this transfer window has been and currently is a shambles. No disrespect the Irish man Adam Idah but he's not what we're looking for or need right now. Shows you that Norwich are getting the guy we wanted and they're giving us the guy the don't want. I'll be happy to come on here and put my hands up if Adam proves me wrong but I'm sorry but can't see that happening.
We have needed a LB and CF more than ever and that's been the case for a while and with £70m in the bank we can't achieve this, I know the January transfer window is harder to get the players in as clubs are reluctant to let players go this time of year but put another zero on your offer and you'll get whoever u want (especially our level of shopping). We are one step away from falling behind in this poxy league and Celtic look the more likely to drop pts than them rats...

Yes, card is handy. No doubt in that but what a lot of you don't see is the small businesses who are charged a fortune by the banks for transactions. The tips in bars and restaurants are gone now too so as much as it's handy for the punter all you're doing in making the banks richer and eventually closing the small businesses. In 10-20 years time there will not be a small business open anywhere, they simply can't afford the high wages (min wage is £11:50 p/h soon. Anything they make is paid back to government in tax and VAT.
Go to Tesco and other major Supermarkets and they're all pushing you down the self-service route and as time goes they reduce the amount of self-service that uses cash too forcing you to pay by card or stand in the long queue, eventually there will be only a handful of people working in these stores just to stack shelves etc. Taking cash out of society is wrong and a lot of people are suffering for it but it's handy as feck for us the punters

Cavan will be loving everyone writing them off, could surprise a few of us.

Not happening lads, calm down. Although nothing would surprise with that Board, BR issued a statement there saying it's not happening in Jan but 100% certainty it will in the summer. We still need a CF as a priority, LB too but Greg Taylor is good enough for Scotland and will get us thru to the summer where we will 100% need him replaced. CF is a must as big Ohh doesn't look like he's gonna step up and we're 1 injury away with Kyogo with a disaster. Board are gambling with £60m and if it backfires on them there will be hell to pay with them nutt case fans over there
