Quote from: seafoid on April 27, 2024, 07:08:59 PMThere will be a move to fix Dublin at some stage.  Maybe more teams instead of 1.

If the GAA were to split Dublin they would be abandoning the "county team" model for national competitions. What would replace that model?

Quote from: Captain Scarlet on April 16, 2024, 04:35:00 PMThere is a lot of back and forth re Dublin who I think we should all admit would dominate any province. They are dominating the All-Ireland long enough so it's fair to say their depth would manage Ulster too.

But, that doesn't excuse Kildare and Meath especially. They should be up and around Div 1 or solid Div 2. I know lads are saying when we are waiting to be hammered in Leinster it breeds a bad vibe, but the league is something different and Kildare were annihilated by Cork and Derry last year. That is not excuseable.

There will be a reset and some fresh blood on the pitch and on the line next year, but the Dubs are going nowhere!

It does create a bad vibe. And you can't just switch that on or off for league football.

When people argued that Dublin benefitted from financial advantages 5 years back we were told that it was a once in a life time team. That we should laud them while they are here. How does that argument stack up now?

What is your solution to the Dublin "problem"? Not "the final solution" I hope!

Paul Flynn of the 6 in a row team on the unpredictibility of semifinals in his experience.

https://www.rte.ie/sport/football/2023/0714/1394516-paul-flynns-weekend-football-predications/Dublin and Monaghan clash this weekend

Through my experience, I've learned the hard way that semi-finals throw up surprises. We learnt that in 2014 playing Donegal when we were favourites going in and we sucker-punched.

Dublin were caught twice by Donegal. 1992 was a big shock (for Dublin at least).

Dublin would need to be naive in the extreme to go to Croke Park tomorrow and not expect an almighty ambush. Hopefully they won't be so naive.

Dublin hand Mayo a cruel hammering while Monaghan scrape through against Armagh - the scene is set for an historic ambush. I hope not, but I'm just saying.

GAA Discussion / Re: Mayo v Dubs 2 July

Impossible to call.

Mayo have been looking the part for most of the year. Have they flattered to deceive? Sunday will tell the tale.

On the other hand Dublin have performed in fits and starts. What will they be like on Sunday - that's the big question.

Fingers crossed

What's the story lads. Who's going to win? Paddy Power thinks it's Dublin.

Fantastic finish by Dublin yesterday. With ten minutes to go they trailed by six points and looked dead and buried. But they dug so deep and turned a six point deficit into a three point win. Brilliant

Will the Dubs rest lads v Sligo? Like even with 2 weeks off will they mind lads coming back from injuries or Con's hamstring...

I think they've been doing that all along

We'll done Dublin  - I never doubted you   ;)

No way will Kildare beat Dublin. I'd love to see it but I don't see it or close...
Every so often a big team is taken out in the championship , usually because they aren't as good as people expect.
Kerry v Down in 1991 was a classic of the genre.
Meath v Westmeath 2015

I've been at a few that we lost against the odds:

Dublin v Meath 1964
Dublin v Kerry 1975
Dublin v Kerry 1978
Dublin v Donegal 1992
Dublin v Derry 1993
Dublin v Down 1994
Dublin v Donegal 2014

2012 v Mayo surely the same as Donegal in 14

I don't think that too many Dubs supporters were too optimistic in 2012. We weren't used to thinking in terms of two in a row back then.

The consensus seems to be that Dublin are a busted flush and they will be exposed as such tomorrow in Nolan Park. That may well happen since they've been dragged out screaming from their cosy citadel of Croker. But sometimes it's dangerous to get what you wish for. The Cork team went home after the drawn 1983 semi-final thinking that they had the replay in Cork already won. as we know it's never that simple.

Anyway win, lose or draw we're well used to all results.
