Okay let's step aside on Brolly for a while. He has a cult following of people who tune in just to get angry at what he says. So RTE would be mad to ship him out.

But can anyone please tell me how it is that Ciaran Whelan has an AI match day seat in the RTE panel. He provides zero insight. He is a weak orator. He is unable to grasp or explain tactical battles.

He is always awful and yesterday was somehow a rung down again. RTE would have been as well dragging the first man out of Meaghers wearing a Dublin kit with six pints swilling around inside him.
I would take it much further than that.

Yesterday, Joanne Cantwell pushed Whelan to clarify if he thought that Cooper wasn't holding Clifford's arm. Whelan said it was just two lads going for the ball. How can this be allowed happen? They're criticising a referee's decision, which he had one look at, and with the aid of several replies he's basically saying black is white.

Whelan actually said after watching the replay, I don't agree that Cooper grabbed his arm. If he's coming out with that rubbish, he shouldn't be on when Dublin are playing.

Brolly is getting worse by the week. Surely RTE have to get rid of him this year.

After watching it again, I don't think Tom O'Sullivan should have got a 2nd yellow. It was a very theatrical fall from Small which made it look bad. Cooper deservedly sent off but the penalty was a joke decision.

You'd fancy Dublin in the replay 15 v 15 but if Cooper and Small start again that's no guarantee.

That was some finish to the game!

Good player, a servent of 17 years to the cause is to my admired. I am being genuine here, in his prime, would he make the Dublin team in the 6 forwards? Or Kerry or Tyrone forward 6 of the noughties?

Seeing that his prime was probably two years ago when named footballer of the year and scored 3-24 from play that summer the short answer would be yes.

In his supposed prime 2 years ago the idiot manager brought him off in the last 10 with the game in the balance v Dublin

He had torn his hamstring at that stage. Didn't play any club football in the 2 months afterwards.

Best Mayo forward I've ever seen. Some great memories of him including the Donegal game earlier this month.

Saying FG or FF have done nothing for Mayo is a lazy generic comment to throw out. On the whole, we've had above average investment relative to population.

Public transport in Dublin is grossly inadequate compared to other major European cities. Public transport in our other cities is almost non existent. There is still no motorway between Cork and Limerick. So Mayo isn't the only neglected county around.

What a load of s**e. You could try make an argument for current players like O'Callaghan, Murchan, Scully coming through with thanks to funding but to claim it benefited the 2011 team is just more of your bitter and deluded nonsense. Alot of the 2011 team played in CROKE PARK when hammered out the gate by Tipp and Tyrone in earlier years. Gilroy changed the mentality of that team not money. You clearly missed that what with only hopping on the dublin bandwagon the last few years.

The argument is that Dublin only started playing their home league games in Croke Park in 2011. No doubt that contributed to their up turn in fortunes. Would you not agree?

I am surprised this thread is still going, By reading the posts on here it is still hurting, lots of complaints and excuses.

Anyone want to summarise the excuses here:

Cork   0-17           Mayo   1-11
Meath 0-12           Mayo   1-9               (Draw)
Meath 2-9           Mayo   1-11               (Replay)
Kerry   0-13           Mayo   1-7
Kerry   1-20           Mayo   2-9
Kerry   4-15           Mayo   3-5
Donegal 2-11           Mayo   0-13

Dublin 2-12            Mayo   1-14
Dublin 2-9           Mayo   0-15
Dublin 1-15           Mayo   1-14
Dublin 1-17           Mayo   1-16

It's interesting how infatuated Dublin people are with Mayo. Over on reservoir dubs they've an entire thread dedicated to taking the piss out of Aidan O'Shea.

GAA Discussion / Re: Galway V Mayo R4 Qualifier

With the Super 8 draw next year it will be even more important to win Connacht. The likely fixtures for the Connacht winner would be...

Home vs Munster runner up (Cork?)
Croke Park vs Ulster champion
Away to Leinster runner up (Kildare/Meath?)

Losing the Connacht final would put you into the other group with Dublin, Kerry and possibly Tyrone/Donegal if one of them loses the Ulster final.

The 1st scenario is a bit more favourable!

Berno got hit with an elbow to the jaw at the end of the Tyrone game and it swelled up so much he wasn't considered for Sat. I think he would have made the bench only for that

Didnt hear that. Interesting.

Would McCaffrey not be as well mark O'Brien then he's on the backfoot half the time?
Hadn't considered that. Not sure how Jim will feel about Jack's lack of impact on Saturday, resulting from having to deal with Durcan all the time.
My guess is that Small will go on O'Brien, with Murchan replacing him after Small gets carded.

Small going for a personal 3 in a row of red cards in the All Ireland final

Cute play there by Geaney getting Sludden booked for off the ball wrestling and getting a hop ball from which Kerry got a score.

And the score they got was never a free!

Why does Dessie talk about every player's experience/inexperience every time they do anything?

Bitterly disappointing end to the season. We put in a huge effort in the 1st half but had no answers after that. Winning the national league is something to cherish in this era of blue domination. The wins against Galway and last week against Donegal were memorable occasions too.

We'll be back next year but Dublin will have to disimprove a lot for us to win the big one.
