I know there was a thread on water rates before but I've just received my helpful pack from the DRD and wondered if the posters on this board plan to pay these additional charges or not.

I for one have no intention of paying them.

I got my estimation in the post the other day and it was £250!  feck me!

Yeah, it's a cost we could do without - when the full bill kicks in it will damage the pocket. I will pay them though, because I'm an honest type of guy - and don't want to get brought to court and have a bad credit rating too. That's also a reason.

Water Rates are based on the value of your home, your present bill is on a 2005 assessment of the value of your house, When the water rates are reassessed in 2010, with the current ridiculous increase in house prices, there'll be fun :-\ Non-payment is the way to go, but it'll fail.

If you have your own water supply do you still have to pay water rates?

No, if you get it from a source off the mains e.g. well or spring, then you don't have to.

Listening to a report on Water rates last night and it seems this hasn't gone away, you know, in view of the 'regional' finance allocation planned by the British government this Autumn.

The report intimated that the Chuckle Brothers may well have to introduce the rates after all if Gordon decides this wee state has had enough hand-outs.

dont pay them. if the majority (you'll always get some dogooders) dont pay what can they do? bad credit rating - big deal.

Forgot to say that the report concluded that it'd be interesting to see how our two leaders, Papa Doc and Marty, would cope with a campaign of mass civil disobedience, in view of their own, individual track records/jail sentences.

Did some economics professer from england not come out this week and say that there shouldn't be any charges and the waterboard should be wound up?
Tbc....

Fiodoir Ard Mhacha

Would it not be a case of the Water Board being turned off rather than wound up?

The report I heard never mentioned this professor - I think the ould peace dividend is now kicking in, the honeymoon is over and once our brave politicians get back to 'work', they'll have some tough talking to do in getting any more spondulicks off the Iron chancellor.

I could be wrong because i dont follow the crooked fu*kers that closely, but did majority of local parties not base their recent election campaign on "No water charges"? What can they do if a large number refuse to pay? Fight the power........
