Also a reflection that Hurling is a minority sport in 25 Counties and indeed is a micro sport in 10 or 12 of them.

2019

Total GAA attendance

Hurling 688k
Football 800k

If Dublin hurlers had even half of the support of the footballers, you would see close to parity in attendances

The worst thing possible for football attendances would be for the likes of micro counties such as Roscommon being any way successful
Also there are more football games than hurling in the championship I would have thought? Back door games, Super 8s in 2019?
So the above isn't even a fair comparison and even with that disadvantage of having less games that hurling isn't that far off the attendances of football.
Imagine as you say if the Dubs started winning hurling All Irelands you would see that hurling figure rise above football.

Rossfan

It's still a minority sport in most Counties and considered a nuisance by Co Boards in a lot of them.
Football Counties apart from Dublin tend to have smaller populations than the Hurling ones plus football didn't restrict the Senior Inter County Provincials and National to a top 10 or 12.
As for Laois.... they are great at keeping attendances down as they seldom ever go to a match to support their County teams.
Hopefully today's game will be a close and exciting one but go aisy on the "best sport in the world" hyperbole 😆

Finals always have a lot of tickets distributed here and there. But with it being July and hotel prices being stratospheric then some people not from the counties may be less inclined to make a weekend of it Add to that the several thousand who would have been interested in the minor in former years

Be interesting to see how the football final plays out. If tickets are on general sale days before it HQ will likely have to look at pushing these finals back to August in the years ahead.

Kind of ironic that someone from Roscommon is having a go at other counties fans attending matches. Didn't see too many of ye Croke Park against Clare :)

Rossfan

Around 5k, 9% of the population.
Around 10k at Connacht Final 15% of population.

In your opinion!

I suppose Rossfan didn't enjoy that absolute classic of a hurling match.
If the the football is half as good it will be epic.

They are two entirely different sports that cannot and should not be compared!

There have been bad Hurling All-Ireland finals also.

Ye were beaten again this year by a hurling county and not the most populous either. How do you explain that?

Rossfan

We were poor on the day, only played well for 20 minutes, can't defend for nuts, conceded 1-3 to 0-0 last 8 or 9 minutes.
Happy now?
Now what has that got to do with the Hurley Final?
Was a good contest, better team won.
Now fir the real All Ireland Final
