Does it mean there will be a public holiday or is it only if the queen dies?
Only when she goes I think.

f**k that then

General discussion / Re: A United Ireland - The Nationalist Paradox

The majority of people on this board are of a Nationalist/catholic persuasion.

Look at the amount of posts/arguing/non acceptance etc that there is when a UI is discussed.

It will take a decade or more to convince this group of the merits of a UI.

Now add in the other group - unionists/loyalists - imagine how long it will take to convince them.

At one point I liked Ewan due to his willingness to call out bullshit if he seen it. However he increasingly has involved himself in agenda driven commentary and although he still makes some valid arguments on some issues, this tends to get drowned out by all of his other obsessive ramblings. He has recently taken to straying into politics yet what he knows about this subject can be written on the back of a postage stamp.

There was a niche for him as an investigative sports journalist if he had gone down that route (that would be his strength) but he has just turned into an erratic Twitter crank who lashes out at everything.

I think he is stuck for money and is writing about the subject which is most relevant now or which will get most attention/attract the most noise.

You will see on his pieces now he is asking for donations - that would tell its own story

It looks increasingly like this is all part of an orchestrated political strategy, stoke the flames, build the rhetoric but keep enough distance so that you can plead ignorance. The row over social distancing breaches at a funeral 9 months ago provided them with some political cover but it was simply a smokescreen for their true objective.

I think the actions of the DUP during the last week has blown their cover. They are attempting to use loyalists as cover to further their political aims. They will try and suck in nationalists to retaliate so that the the media report violence from both sides in the interest of 'balance'.

It can all be dated back to this meeting, would like to have been a fly on the wall there.

It may be easy for our side to see and say what the DUP are aiming for however this is not obvious for current DUP voters.

As long as the DUP continue blaming the other side they will retain their share of the vote and the status quo

There is lots of debate about domestic vaccine passports & the rights and wrongs of it.

I can see how some people say it will infringe on their rights and being able to live a normalish life and thats a fair point which will be heavily scrutinised.

A question for anyone who refuses to take the vaccine - if this means no foreign countries will allow you entry for the rest of your days are you willing to stand by your ideology/beliefs?

If any of the recent stories are to be believed issues with Howe and personnel and deal still way off.

In the name of god, if true, that club never ceases to amaze me!!

Kennedy and Strachan should have been gone with Lennon, whether they had any big say or not they were part of the nonsense that we seen in 20/21.

I'm convinced Kennedy knows something about someone high up in the club as he seems to be a permanent fixture and Willie Mc Stay too.

Just reading Celtics current women's Manager was R Koemans assistant for a number of years, surely he could have seen things through until the end of the season.

Careful John........on dodgy ground there

How many men here been vaccinated already? Got the first jab a month ago. Sore arm next day, but like the normal flu jab I get each Yr. Don't understand the point of view of anti vacs, as we all got the triple booster when younger for tetanus, polio, etc. If you sick u at the doctors looking antibiotics / medical steroids to improve your health. How's getting this injection 💉 any different.

Got the jab yesterday.
Like you weasel a bit of a sore arm today but nothing else.

I can assure you if there was a vaccine passport introduced for foreign travel or restaurants etc all of these people saying they wouldnt get it would be in the queue looking it.

Lets see how strong their 'beliefs' are then

Going back to the Welbeck penalty claim, had another look at it and don't see how it wasn't given - looked a clear penalty.

Yeah it's a strange one.

Sky Sports refereeing pundit Dermot Gallagher said that he agreed that VAR could not overturn the decision.

I think Mike Dean wasn’t convinced it was a foul and the VAR can’t intervene because being a subjective decision that it is… is it a coming-together or has he slipped?” said Gallagher.

“Mike Dean has a difficult call. He’s not sure if Maguire catches Welbeck and the VAR, when he looks at it, has to go with the referee as it’s not a clear and obvious error. It’s one of those where you have to accept the ref’s decision on the field and stand by it.”

I couldnt see how it wasnt a clear and obvious error.

Maguire catches Wellbecks foot.

When you look at some of the decisions given this season it is even more baffling

Just scheduled my first shot for Thursday morning-thank fvck

50 + and 1 underlying condition

When is MA opening it up to everyone? (Biden wants it nationwide by the beginning of May)

NY starts everyone over 16 this week.

Probably in the next 2 weeks but pretty much anyone can now get it.

I’m not a proponent of line jumping, and I have one legitimate pre existing condition, but other people I know who don’t have predicting conditions are signing up anyway. Their logic is why should smokers, drug users and obese people get rewarded for bad life decisions and jump the line ahead of them

NJ had smokers down among the heightened-risk groups early on too, which didn't go down well there either. I get the resentment, but those people are legitimately at higher risk of serious illness and will be among those taking up ICU beds if they contract COVID. Its a zero sum game, unfortunately.

I waited until I was eligible too (I also had a qualifying comorbidity which put me in the running before they got down to the completely young and healthy), but I could have moved earlier. NY allowed service industry workers who deal with the public to get in early, and there were quite a few Irish bars willing to help out friends and relatives with a wee note!

“Former smokers” are also included in Massachusetts.

At least anecdotally, that’s what tipped some people over the edge who otherwise were willing to wait a little bit longer.  I was just casually was chatting with someone last weekend and they told me about a local health center who were pretty much vaccinating all comers at this stage

Doesn’t seem to be any shortage of vaccines up here at this stage

Can you send some of the extra's back home?

Do you mean down South MR?

Not much shortages in the North either

General discussion / Re: World Cup 2022

Yes this Im amazed there is not more chat about this in England. Southgate is a terrible manager. A brick could have got England to the semis of the world cup the way the draw opened up. When they played anyone half decent ie Croatia and Belgium twice, they lost. The current England squad is great but with that manger they are being held back big time.

its not the first time England had a great squad though.

Around 05 they had Cole, Terry, Ferdinand, Beckham, Lampard, Scholes, Gerrard, Owen, Rooney
96 they had Seaman, Pearce, Adams, Gazza, Ince, Shearer, Sheringham

Both of these periods could have been seen as really good teams but when it comes to the big tournaments they completely shit in the nest.

Their media do them no favours mind you

No chance its an April Fools joke.

Public Health and people following rules is not a joke - this will encourage others to break the rules

Dublin SHOULD get the same punishment as Down or perhaps even less given it wasnt the full panel and backroom staff.

That shouldnt be the biggest concern for GAA folk though.

The best team in Ireland, role models etc etc ignoring the rules - this is a major headline now and another stick to get bashed with.

Is that soccer head still on the board...........he will love this

I wouldn't be convinced it was broke, and I have seen the photos, convinced the whole ornament saga was manufactured. It was another fight he wasn't properly prepared for.

You have seen the photos?

Do you mean Frampton faked the injury and then allowed someone to take photos of his 'not injured' hand, it eventually found its way to you and this is what you are basing your opinions on?

Did the GAA take any action over the time Down were caught breaking the rules?
