No.

My point was that any Nationalist born in 1980 is not likely to be politically aware until the mid 90's, and ineilgible to vote before 1998, by which time institutional discrimination had been all but eradicated, and "informal" discrimination was greatly reduced.

Which for me partly* explains why, even with the "Catholic" demographics outstripping their "Prod" equivalents during the 1980's and 90's, we have not seen a corresponding outstripping of the Unionist share of the vote by Nationalism during the 2000's (i.e. when those RC's were entitled to vote).


* - There are other reasons too, of course, imo primarily economic.

The number of RC's versus Prods has been increasing throughout this Century.

The number of Nationalist voters (versus Unionist voters, that is) has not.

Therefore until Nationalism can address that weakness, it will make no progress.

Except that the difference in the birth rates etc was just as marked in the last 18 years of the 20th Century. Why hasn't that  filtered through by now?

Those people born after around 1980 are now approaching their 30's. They were not even born during the "bad old days" of Discrimination etc, and childhood memories of (the tailend of) The Troubles must be fading, too.

Since voting figures clearly indicate that the (former) rise in the Nationalist share of the vote has stalled over the last decade, this suggests that this generation may no longer be voting Nationalist in the numbers in which preceeding generations did.

And it is my hope that as tensions and emotions increasingly settle down in NI generally; the economic imbalance between NI and ROI evens out (since the demise of the Celtic Tiger); and apathy and indifference towards NI in the ROI increases, then this drift away from Nationalism by people in the Catholic community will continue.

I enjoyed The Way Back, but as mentioned it lacked a storyline really. Monsters was very good. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was excellent, can't wait to see the other two. Hurt Locker was very good, whereas Jarhead was dung

I thought it was poor! Boring IMO!

Im not a big fan of those type of films, but alot of people raved about Jar Head and this is much better.

Saw these films in the last week

The Way back- epic world war 2 escape movie, grerat acting and visuals but maybe lacking a bit more to the story, still a good watch though.  One for blu ray.

The Tourist- entertaining action pursuit film and angelina is stunning in it but the storyline is full of holes, il not spoil it!

Monsters-  surprisingly about alien monsters, got great reviews but i was dissapointed more of romance stroy between the fella and girl.

Id say your right on the sweetness Steve, but ihad them on my day two rip last week, and they went down a treat.  I would never drink magners on a night out but great for day two scenarios also.  Takes the edge of a bit.  Im dying for a drink now!!

Apologies if a thread has already been started for this but i wasnt for trawling through to find it!
I was in Manchester last weeknd for the fight, and stumbled (literally) across a beer that i want to add to my locker.  Its called Desperado, its a french beer 330ml bottles and is 6%.  I tell ye it is rocket juice and nice also.  Refreshing like Sol or Corona.  I have def seen it about in Ireland and im looking to purchase a few for the BBQ this weekend.  Were would be best value to get them?

To be honest pints I dont really care either!  If there wasnt a thread about it I wouldn have said anything, but is that not the good thing about discussion forums?  Here look if you cant fathom why a burka would be impractical for any aspect of society then there is no point discussing further.  I have been described easy going manytimes but I truly admire your care free nature, no joke.   But il just give you one last example to try and persude you.  TV channels as well as other businesses are in the habbit of employing good looking presenters and weather forecast women, to show a "warm front" so to speak.  A muslim women goes for the job, she extremely well qualified and the company would like to give her the job, but obviously they dont want her wearing the burka.  Is it then religious/racial descrimination not to employ her?

Of course it is, just like it would be sex discrimination if a man was passed up for the job because he wasn't a good looking woman.
