Boy, 12, is having sex change, school announces

A school called an emergency assembly to tell children that a 12-year-old male pupil was having a sex change.

The youngster arrived for his first term at secondary school wearing a dress and with long hair in ribboned pigtails after his parents changed his name to a female one by deed poll over the summer holidays.

However, the boy, who is preparing to undergo hormone treatment and sex change surgery, was immediately taunted by classmates who recognised him from primary school.

As a result, the 1,000-pupil school in south east England decided to call an emergency assembly ordering children to treat him as a girl and use his new name.

But parents have reacted angrily after some youngsters were apparently left in tears by the news. They claim that the head teacher should have informed parents of the matter beforehand, so that they could have discussed gender issues with their children.

One mother, whose daughter was a classmate of the boy at primary school, told The Sun: "She [my daughter] told me that the pupil is already a target for bullying.

"What has really upset the parents is that the school didn't see fit to send us a letter first so we could explain it to children in our own way.

"Maybe we could have explained sexual politics and encouraged our kids to be more sensitive.

"They were simply told, 'You may notice one pupil is not present in this assembly – that is because the pupil is now a girl'.

"The girl, as she now is, will go through hell because of how this has been handled."

It is understood that at primary school, the boy's head teacher insisted that children treat him as a boy, despite his feminine behaviour, which included wearing a bikini for swimming lessons, wearing his hair in pigtails and using riding a pink scooter.

However, the secondary school has provided him with a separate lavatory and changing room in its sports hall.

The boy's mother told The Sun: "We are committed to ensuring the very best for our child. We are working with other agencies to ensure our child's welfare is protected."

How the fcuk is this child ever going to adapt to real life.  The fact that the mother spoke to The Sun tells you a lot!

A German man mooning at railway staff in a departing train got his trousers caught in a carriage door and ended up being dragged half naked along the platform, out of the station and onto the tracks. Skip related content

The 22-year-old journalism student shoved his backside against the window of a low-slung double-decker train when staff forced him off in Lauenbrueck for travelling without a ticket, a spokesman for police in the northern city of Bremen said.

"It's a miracle he wasn't badly hurt," the spokesman said on Monday. "This sort of thing can end up killing you."

Instead, dangling by his trousers, the man got pulled along for about 200 metres, all the while managing to keep his legs away from the wheels of the train.

The ordeal ended when a passenger pulled the emergency brake. Rescues services were called in, causing rail services between Bremen and Hamburg to be suspended for over an hour, delaying 23 trains.

The man -- unharmed except for cuts and bruises -- now faces charges of dangerous interference in rail transport, insulting the train staff, and may face sizeable a compensation claim for the delays he caused, police said.

"He was full of remorse when I talked to him," the spokesman said. "And he advised others not to try the same thing."

Boy punished for cutlery breach

A six-year-old American boy has been ordered to spend 45 days at a school for troublemakers after he brought his favourite camping cutlery to school.
Zachary Christie took out the combination knife, fork and spoon at lunch, in violation of the school policy of not bringing in knives.
Hundreds of people are expected at a school board meeting about the issue.
Downes Elementary School, in Newark, Delaware, operates a zero tolerance policy on knives, banning them as dangerous instruments.
Officials said they were forced to act regardless of Zachary's age or what he planned to do with the knife, the Associated Press reported.
School board member John Mackenzie said the board could change its policy.
"The policy, of course, needs some additional flexibility," he told AP.
"Politically, zero tolerance is what everybody clamours for, until we start to realise how harsh zero tolerance can be."
Suspension appeal
In other cases school officials have ignored the policy and Mr Mackenzie said he was surprised this had not happened in Zachary's case.
Zachary and his mother supported the policy but were unhappy with its implementation.
He said: "I agree that they shouldn't bring dangerous weapons to school but I don't think the punishment should be this bad.
"It's not fair."
His mother, Debbie Christie, is home-schooling him and is to appeal her son's suspension.
