The unofficial spokesman for the calorie and fat-laden Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas has died — of a heart attack.

John Alleman (52) was the second unpaid mascot to die in the past two years.

He collapsed while waiting at a bus stop in front of the diner last week and was taken off life support on Monday.

The medically themed diner is famous for its huge hamburgers, extra-fat milkshakes and chips cooked in lard. It uses the tagline: "Taste worth dying for."

Owner Jon Basso said that Mr Alleman went to the restaurant daily and encouraged passing tourists to try its offerings.

"He never missed a day, even on Christmas," Mr Basso said. "People just loved him. He connected with people in a real way."

Mr Alleman became an unofficial mascot for the restaurant, which features waitresses dressed in nurse uniforms. His caricature as "patient John" graced its merchandise and menus.

In 2011, another unofficial spokesman, 41-stone Blair River, died aged 29. At the time, friends said pneumonia may have been the cause of death.

In 2012, a man in his 40s was hospitalised after he began sweating and shaking while eating a 6,000-calorie Triple Bypass burger at the restaurant.

The ominously named diner features tongue-in-cheek health warnings and casts customers as patients. Eaters are given surgical gowns as they choose from a calorifically extravagant menu.

A processing plant in Co Tipperary has been shut down after inspectors found it was exporting horse meat under a label in the Czech language which translated as beef.

B&F Meats, a small-scale deboning factory in Carrick-on-Suir was selling a mislabelled product to a customer in the Czech Republic through a trader based in the UK.

The Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney has said that all operations at the plant have been suspended.

He said: "I am seriously concerned about this development and the gardaí have been fully appraised of this development and are working closely with my department."

Minister Coveney said: "The issue here is one of mislabelling and that will be the focus of the investigation."

Officers from the Department of Agriculture's special investigations unit have been carrying out searches at the factory this afternoon.

The issue isn't one of 'mislabelling' it is one of fraud. The article mentions no arrests or even questioning of the scum involved.

NY policeman Gilberto Valle guilty of cannibal plot

A New York City police officer has been found guilty of plotting to murder his wife, and cook and eat other women.

Gilberto Valle, 28, was arrested by the FBI last year following a tip-off by his wife.

The trial heard how Valle had taken steps to carry out his plan of abducting, torturing and eating women he knew.

Defence lawyers argued it was merely a role-playing fantasy he had concocted while browsing fetish websites.

But a Manhattan federal court heard how Galle had contacted some of the women mentioned in his plans.

He also used a police department database to look up their personal information, emailing and texting them and meeting at least one of them.



Valle also used the internet to research the best rope for tying up people and to learn which chemicals render a person unconscious. Search terms found on his computer included "human flesh" and "white slavery".

During the trial, Valle's estranged wife, Kathleen Mangan, 27, testified against him.

She said she had found emails detailing his plans to slit her throat and kidnap and kill her friend.

Ms Mangan said that in the emails, Valle discussed how two other women would be "raped in front of each other to heighten their fears", and another would be roasted alive over a fire.

Both she and Valle wept when the court was shown a picture of him in his police uniform, feeding their newborn daughter.

After Tuesday's guilty verdict, Manhattan prosecutor Preet Bharara said: "Today, a unanimous jury found that Gilberto Valle's detailed and specific plans to abduct women for the purpose of committing grotesque crimes were very real, and that he was guilty as charged.

"The internet is a forum for the free exchange of ideas, but it does not confer immunity for plotting crimes and taking steps to carry out those crimes."
