Developer missing for months found starving by side of road

A PROPERTY developer missing from his home for the past eight months is being treated in hospital after being found disorientated and starving at the side of a rural road.

Kevin Michael McGeever, who once traded property in Dubai, turned up after being on a garda missing list since last summer.

Mr McGeever (68) was found on a road near Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, late on Tuesday night.

Friends and relatives are said to be both "astonished" and "delighted" that he had been found.

It is understood Mr McGeever told gardai that he had been dropped off at the rural location by a van, but he was unable at this stage to recall where he had been for the past eight months since disappearing from his home in Gort.

The Mayo native had no money on him when he was found, but did have a mobile phone and a torch.

"He was covered in a plastic bag and wasn't wearing any shoes," said Leitrim county councillor Martin Kenny, who spoke with the couple who found Mr McGeever.

"He told them he had been dropped off by a number of men in a van and he had been in the van for some time. So it certainly appears that he was being held against his will, and that is what he indicated.

"Where he has been for the past months is anyone's guess, but it must be a great relief for his family."

"He was absolutely ravenous," added the councillor. "He was extremely thin and not in great shape at all.

"He didn't know where he was and had to be told he was in Leitrim."

Mr Kenny said gardai had re-visited the rural road outside Ballinamore with the couple to examine the scene where he was found.

Mr McGeever was last night receiving treatment at Mulligar Hospital.

It is understood Mr McGeever is being treated for malnutrition and dehydration. Gardai are hoping to speak to him today if he is medically fit.

During the boom, he ran a successful property business selling luxury homes in Dubai to wealthy Irish and British clients.

When he was reported missing to Gort garda station last June, an address he had been using at Brooklawn, Clontarf, Dublin, was also included in the missing person report.

Locals in Gort, Co Galway, also said they were baffled to hear of the incident.

A special bamboo that flowers once every half century across northeastern India, generating a plague of rats, is threatening famine in the region.  Over the next few months state governments in the region will be finalising plans to combat the flowering of the Melocana Baccifera bamboo - known locally as "mautam" or famine - which is spread over some 18,000 sq km.  Officials said the deadly bamboo is concentrated in Mizoram state bordering Bangladesh and Burma (Myanmar) but can also be found in the neighbouring provinces of Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya and parts of Assam. It last bloomed in 1958 in Mizoram and the consequent famine claimed nearly 15,000 lives, triggering a guerrilla war between the native Mizo people and the government for almost two decades in which the army was widely deployed, often with disastrous consequences. The Mizo National Famine Front that emerged from the ecological disaster became the insurgent Mizo National Front that eventually signed a peace agreement with the federal authorities in the late 1980s.  According to bamboo expert Dr M P Ranjan, the flowers produce protein-rich, delicious seeds favoured by rats, causing an explosion in their population.  And after the supply of seeds is exhausted, millions of hungry rats fan out across the region, attacking scarce grain supplies wherever they can.  "The resultant famine [in 1958] was quite disastrous, and that is what is being expected this time round," Dr Ranjan warned. The British colonial administration first noticed the phenomenon of bamboo flowering in the northeast and its devastating impact on ecology. It recorded the first famine in 1862 and the second in 1881 in which around 15,000 Mizos died. The 1911-12 famine was also caused by this phenomenon, with similarly tragic results.

A woman in Brazil has been accused of poisoning her nether regions with a lethal toxin in order to off her husband.

In a case that is being dubbed 'cunning cunnilingus', a woman in Brazil will reportedly be sued by her husband, who she tried to kill by lacing her vagina with a lethal toxin and trying to convince him to perform oral sex on her.

The woman was claimed to be looking for a divorce (which she'll probably get now) and opted for the murder route after her husband refused her initial request.

It would seem the man thought the situation was getting a bit hairy when his wife got him into the bedroom and they were about to get the job done, when he noticed a strong chemical smell coming from her. Obviously things are not going well when you're suspicious of your wife taking you into the bedroom.

He rushed her to the hospital where she had tests done and her stomach pumped, at which point she confessed her fiendish plot to her husband.

Doctors said that she had applied enough toxin to kill him and herself, making a bit of a balls of the whole thing.
