First time for me. Great performance at the Ricoh in Coventry (engaging with the crowd), value (3.5 hours), music (mix of styles), energy (man of principle, gives everything). Hope to see Bruce and the band again....if you can get a ticket, snap it up.

Colm Coyles point from the halfway line in '96.

And what about this one from PJ Gillic?

Pains me to say/remember......but 2 or 3 fantastic Meath points that will stick in the memory and right up there as some of the greatest

Will this make good referees better and make bad refs even worse ?

Will it make the 28 outfield players better or worse is more the point?.....why the one man in the middle again?

Massive incentive for Kerry, they need a decent score to overtake London's total (56 points) in all 4 divisions.

Despite the bitter disappointment for an Port Mor it was a fantastic run for the club. I know it means very little when you lose but the 2nd half performance was indicative of the spirit they had all year. The boys at the other half of the Parish have enjoyed the success of the County lads in the last 10 years but the success of an Mhaigh and an Port Mor at club level this year is something else. How did the game go tonight compared to last week?. The score was very tight....amazing how a week can make a difference.

Went to the match last night. Expected more from Northampton but Ulster were dominant. From tactics, tackling and flair it was very impressive. It takes a bit of luck to get to back to back Heineken finals but who knows? Bowe and Trimble let Gilroy know what it takes to cement a place in a first class team...Best took one (two or three) for the cause from Hartley but I'm sure he has had worse in his time.

The Edgar Mobbs Way now links the soccer and rugby grounds....any chance of an extension to Sons of Erin (current Warks County Intermediate Champions) to complete the holy trilogy of sport?

Listened to an interesting conversation on English radio earlier today about making hockey a more 'dynamic' game. Women's Hockey has introduced a new rule along the following lines...(not exact, I am no expert)

- When fouled, a player with the 'stick over the ball' can proceed 5 metres without challenge/tackle

Suggested Rule for us... a player fouled between their own 13m line and the opponents 20m line can proceed forward 5 metres (TBD!!!) without being tackled by the opposition team and before taking their free kick. At all times the defender must be 13m from the attacker when the free kick is taken.

Positives for Our Game

1. Definite advantage for attacking player as defender on the back foot
2. Cynical fouling 'out the field/foul him there' can be overcome to some degree
3. The famous/infamous foul count may become less relevant (what will journalists complain about next?, Tyrone would never have won 3 Sams!! blah blah)
4. 'He's fond of the whistle' (nonsense from spectators) will be reduced as advantage is for the fouled payer  -refs need support
5. 'Where's he taking it from?' (again nonsense from spectators and players) - advantage for the fouled payer
6. The whistle does not stop the game going forward

Challenges for the Game

1. Something else for the Ref to consider
2. 13m advantage rule to be reviewed
3. Player can run 5 metres with ball in hand (goes against 4 step rule)

In general...seems sensible for hockey, rugby has similar rule....no harm in learning from others!

Brian Bannigan, a proud Clonoe and Tyrone man helped to form a Gaelic Football club in Corby Northamptonshire. Corby O'Rahillys (named after his beloved home club) continue to play football in one of the most rural English settings. Brians wife hails from Clonfeacle. Corby has people from Tyrone and Armagh (Clonfeacle (An Mhaigh agus An Port Mor), Urney, Ahyaran, Tullysaran, Carrickmore) as well as many other counties throughout Ireland.

RIP Brian.

Will Graham Shields survive this calamity tonight??. The North's electorate has come out in huge numbers again but they have to wait for 3 days to count a few hundred thousand votes.

English voters have their voting efforts recognised in hours, Irish voters are held in contempt...by their own civil/admin system .

From what I understand, umpires will be officials and have experience of reffing or officiating at matches. 2 points....

1. if they are experienced, they should be able to advise the ref when he is unable to pass judgement on an incident, no matter if it is technical or aggressive

2. if they are not experienced they should be in the stand, nowhere near the pitch

Martin's body language was obvious, he didn't see the incident, the nonsense rules relating to the advice he can take resulted in the farce at the end. All the officials were caught like rabbits in a headlight due to the rule book on officiating.

Louth should direct their vitriol at the rule makers, the men in white coats are certainly required.....but not anywhere near the goals.

Great stuff, last eight of the Championship. On holiday abroad for both weekends (QF and SF). If we beat Cill Dara , will cut short for the semi-final. Good luck Tir Eoghain, let the good times roll.

It would appear that SF's vote is turning out in Marty's regions (+50%). Gerry is struggling to get the west of the city out. Big changes due in Republican circles. ?? The rural Republican vote will npw start to count.?
