GAA Discussion / Re: Joe Brolly

Quote from: marty34 on May 23, 2024, 05:01:48 PMI'm surprised Joe has never went into management. I remember he was very critical of the club in Belfast who he was going to take and they went for thr 'paid' option, iirc?

You'd think he get a gig somewhere. Maybe too many plates on the go with his job, podcast and writings etc.

Brolly is the type  to not put himself in such a position,  because if he wasn't successful, that would be a huge dent to  his ego.

Better to  stay out  of it, and  make up a story   saying  "I could been a great manager, but somebody  screwed  me over", and his huge ego remains intact.

Quote from: gerrykeegan on May 23, 2024, 08:16:51 AMGreat experience. Well organised. Garda everywhere. Got from a pub in Baggot Street to our seats in about 25 minutes. Ticketing system was excellent. Barcode on your mobile ticket only came up that day. At 5 you were told to activate your Bluetooth and location on your phone. The had three checks for your ticket, one a cursory look at the screen. The second seemed like a little Bluetooth reader that knew you had an actual ticket. Next was scanning the barcode for you to get in at the ground. Brilliant atmosphere. Both sets of fans were great.

What would happen if  you couldn't get  a WiFi signal? Or if your battery  ran out?

Or even if your phone was stolen? Could someone else have  used the ticket?

A shout out to Noel Gallagher's post Oasis song "Holy Mountain". He can still pen them.

I thought 'Dead in the water' was the best thing  Noel has written  since  the mid 90's. Maybe ever

Quote from: Nanderson on May 22, 2024, 06:06:38 PMLoved the soundtrack in the background of Rishis announcement. Someone blaring out 'Things can only get better'

I'd say Peter Cunnah  will be getting a few quid in royalties  over the coming weeks

Quote from: marty34 on May 22, 2024, 04:06:13 PMDo a lot do their draw on Facebook live?

I bought a ticket a couple years ago , and the  draw was on that FB live

In the process of  drawing the winners , they  drew one name and says he's won 2nd  prize (then placed his ticket on a table). Then they proceeded  to draw the 1st prize  winner.

I  remember thinking oh they're in trouble  here.  Technically the 2nd prize winner  wasn't actually in the hat  for the chance  to win 1st prize, so could have demanded  the 1st prize also (10k I think).

He obviously didn't realise  this , and the club in question could have been out another  7 or 8 grand had he pushed it

Ah there's a  world of difference  . The old one  makes my hairs stand on end.

Quote from: Itchy on May 21, 2024, 08:45:33 PMThere is, as far as I'm aware, no evidence of this gang rape/mass rape thing. Its also pretty much accepted that Israel shot up a large amount of their own people. If they gave a damn about hostages they would gave negotiated their release, instead they carpet bombed civilian areas. You need to think of Israel as Nazis to understand the evil you are dealing with here.

Didn't stop Netanyahu repeating it yesterday. But it's like the old saying - if you repeat a lie  often enough , it will  eventually become the truth

As for the Israeli hostages , israel  didn't give a  hoot about them. It served their plans  (total and obliteration of  Gaza) better not  to have  them released

It does seem the UK  economy has suffered since  leaving the EU , but  what  if enough  big players  chose to leave  , making the EU irrelevant?

Would that not  make the Brexit decision a  good move?

100% for the old  theme so far

Then you have Harry Kane still waiting after all those minutes of action.

I thought you had  to play a certain amount  of games to get a medal. That was  the case for the  premier league anyway , not sure about  the cup competitions

Just for a bit of fun.......

I long to hear  the old, original theme  again on The Sunday Game. I really don't like the newer version  at all. It might as well be a   totally different theme.

Anyway , what's your  verdict?  Which theme do you prefer?

The 80's and 90's  Sunday Game theme

Or...

The more recent  version from the 2010's and  2020's

Quote from: jcpen on May 19, 2024, 08:04:29 PMDid Man United make it into any of the European places?
Do they get the Europa League because they are in FA Cup Final?

Nope and hopefully they haven't the distraction of Europe either as they won't be able to use Thursday night football as an excuse that some clubs did this year..

Gotta win it so again, no European football

United would be better off out of Europe . Better to bring in  a  new manager  and a number of   new players and start the rebuilding.

If that means  bringing in "lesser" players  because of the lack of European football ,  then  so be it. United have enough  big time Charlie signings  on mental wages as it is.
