General discussion / Fonacab

Was it Fonacab or Value Cabs the taxi driver that released the video footage of the couple in his car worked for?

Another taxi driver in Belfast in a bit of bother now

I'm due an upgrade on my phone and after about 5 years of iPhones I'm now considering moving to the latest Samsung device. Has anyone got the Samsung and if so what's your thoughts on it?

Other than the obvious SMS/Phone functionality, I use the iPhone (currently 4s) for browsing the web, SkyGo, watching other TV on the odd occasion, reading (downloaded a few thousand books so handy for a bit of variety), livescore, music and RunKeeper. I also play the odd game on it.

Will I still get all those apps/functionality on the Galaxy? What about banking apps (Ulster bank, etc...), sky+, rte player, etc...?

I also see a few people talking on the TV Recommendations thread about streaming to the TV with either a HD cable or a dongle? Can you stream premiership matches live (my friend wants to know that one)? What's the quality like?

Is there anything else the Galaxy does/doesn't do when compared to the iPhone? Is it a fair bit bigger than the iPhone?

General discussion / Damp
December 07, 2011, 02:31:39 PM
lads

I have a bit of a damp problem in the house and want to work out where the damp is coming from.

The house is coming up on 100 years old and I've been in it for about 11 years now. I did some work to the house at the beginning of the year (removed a wall between the dining room and living room) - as a result there's only a door between the living area and the kitchen.

I first noticed the damp about 2 or 3 months ago on a blocked up chimney breast - it wasn't in the middle of the chimney breast though, it was in the bottom left and right corners. It came and went and I tried opening windows and leaving doors open to try and improve ventilation. That seemed to improve things a bit but didn't fix it entirely. I then discovered a leak under the kitchen sink which is now fixed - that seems to have stopped the damp on the chimney breast.

I've now noticed some mould has appeared just above the skirting behind the couch (just below a window). This is the first time I've noticed it - it might have been there for a while. There's very little of it but enough to piss me off.

Do you think the leak in the kitchen would have led to the dampness in the living area? The kitchen sink would be about 10 or 11 metres from where the damp appeared. In the last 11 years there's never been a hint of damp in the house and it seems to have coincided with the first winter after doing work to the house (although the work was finished before the end of Jan 2011 so still had a few cold and wet months then) and with the leak in the kitchen.

I haven't taken the step yet and have no immediate plans but this is bound to be the type of response any man would be happy with...

Has anyone any similar stories?

GAA Discussion / Future of Croke Park
June 19, 2008, 03:16:26 PM
A friend of mine was down in Dublin for the weekend there and went and did the tour of Croke Park. The tour guide was saying that they've almost made the money back already that it took to build Croker!

He also said during the tour that they're now considering buying the houses behind Hill 16 and making it all seater (bringing the capacity to 96k approx) and are even considering putting a roof on the stadium.

What do you think of these ideas or what would you like to see happen? Would you rather they paid it off and lowered ticket prices or are you happy to see more development work go on?

I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of any possible outcomes in Irish league matches at this time of the year before the game?

I heard an outcome of a game on Saturday past from someone close to the Irish league club involved in the game and it came in. Both teams had nothing to play for as both are safe and neither are challenging at the top.

The same thing happened last year when I heard 3 results before kick off and all 3 came in. Bookies in the town that day stopped taking bets a few hours before kick off.

Could of course be coincidence but it might not. Anyone else have any experience of this?

What's the opinions on this? Looks like its pretty cheap from the quote I've just done but how easy will it be to get Ryanair to pay out????
