Id imagine a lot of players turned down the offer. Surely port would have had more than 5? They had 5 on the panel last year. Also i dont see the point in retired county players playing this competition.  And no u20's will be able to play cos the u20 club championship is on this weekend, not an ideal fixture.

Where is it official that O'D's gave a walkover? I believe they requested a postponement of the match and it was granted by the county board.

He's a typical lad who doesn't pay attention when something is being explained, but then still reckons he's right, even though clearly he's not. Typical idiot, really.
Cheers Anthony. I must have missed the bit where they said that LX or WH would get home advantage should they be drawn out for the one fixture.
Also, there's a pre-existing home-away agreement between the two counties. Either we get home advantage or we do so for the next two championship games that we play against

The pre existing home-away agreement only happens in the leinster championship should both sides meet each other.  This agreement doesn't apply in the qualifier section.
Also it was clear as mud before the draw was made the rules for the draw. Laois were drawn out 6th vs westmeath. That tie wasn't allowed. Clare were then drawn out  7th and basically laois and Clare swapped places(as explained before the draw) and offaly drawn out last.

Hard luck portlaoise. Kicked some terrible wides. Rodgers is human, and humans miss penalties.  Don't go knocking the lad and throw him under a bus. He certainly owes that portlaoise team nothing.

To my knowledge the appeals  board are made up of four or five  people from various clubs. I could be wrong on this.  If so its got nothing to do with the county board.  But yes, the county board should take some slack for letting that referee do the final. And bye the way, I'm not in any way condoning or defending  the actions of the player.  I think he should serve a lengthy suspension.

Don't go blaming the county board etc for the player getting the suspension lifted. It's the GAA as a whole. There are obviously different loopholes within the rules and this is how he got off. It wasn't as if laois county board said we'll suspend him for a couple of games and then a few weeks later they said, do you know what, we'll just let him off, no suspension. The justice system and appeals system is a complete joke within the GAA.

Did anybody here why he won his appeal? I heard a reason but it seems a very silly reason so I don't  think it's true.  I heard the ref got injured, Maurice left the line to referee it a Brendan McCann went down to do lines man but wasn't dressed in proper gear.  He was wearing  jeans and shoes and this is the technicality that got him off. This is hardly true???

David Moore i think is excellent.  Two port men, McCann and Ward are also good.

Joesephs guaranteed  at least a semi final . Barrowhouse vs clonaslee this week. Barrowhouse win would put them top and into final. If clonaslee win they finish level on points with barrowhouse and Courtwood.  Does this take head to head out of it and does it go to score difference.  In the case of the later,  Clonaslee would have to win by 15 points?

I was up at the game on Sunday....
I thought Laois played a very calm and measured game. They didn't panic and didn't kick it away and get frustrated with the 14 man Carlow defence in front of them. A few notable points from the game, Timmons got a brilliant hand in on Murphy and disposed him brilliantly in first half. Donoher's pass to Crowley was great vision and Crowley kicked a super point from the pass. Laois's kickouts very fast and got the play under way straight away. Glynn kicked a great point from a narrow angle with possibly his first possession having come on when Laois were after kicking 3 or 4 bad wide's and badly needed a score. Dillons block on Broderick in second half was excellent, its rare in todays game.  Brody did very well from play coming out with the ball and it always attracts at least two opposition players and frees up his own team mates. Crowley was excellent under the long kickouts and picked up a few vital breaks. I thought Donnie kicked a few excellent frees in the last 15 minutes to close out the game, after missing a few scoreable ones beforehand. Evan kicked a nice point after a personally tough week for the chap. And finally Stephen Attride, what bravery to cut out a vital ball with 30 seconds left on the clock, its a pity that his sheer bravery came at such a cost to our captain.
Well done to all players, management and backroom staff.  Bring on the Dubs............ :)

Great result. 4-11 from play.  11 different scorers.  A few championship debuts. A few lads getting a good 70 minutes of championship fitness after injuries. Dominated midfield. Looked fitter and sharper-All positives.  Looked like we  could be cut open at the back. No defensive plan. Another injury to attride-all negatives. Now for kildare . Yes kildare will be favourites and rightly so but we can give them enough of it if we get going early and put them on the back foot. In order to get a result we'll have to get a defensive plan in place or else you could see kildare getting 20+ scores. Hopefully a championship match will stand to us and kildare will be a bit rusty.  Looking forward to it. Well done to the panel and management today.
