They will learn if their request is successful next week...
A British army regiment will learn if they will be allowed to field an official GAA team in London next year according to The Irish Post.

The Irish Guards have made a request to London GAA asking to form a team for the London club championship next year.

London GAA clubs will vote on their application next week with support for the new team said to be around 50/50 at the moment.

The team will be allowed to compete at junior level next year should their request be successful.

Historically under Rule 21, members of the British security forces were forbidden from being members of the GAA and this rule was only changed back in 2001.

The Irish Guards only recently moved from their base in Hampshire to Hounslow Cavalry Barracks in London this year and are keen to set up a GAA team in the area.

Time will tell whether they will succeed or not...
