From the Ulster Council website:
"Closing date for applications has been changed to Friday 16th January, so fixtures should be available on week beginning Monday 19th January."
Aye i just seen that there myself Fullback...I would say they didn't get as many applicants as expected so they extended their deadline???
Closing date Monday 19th, Fixtures released Tuesday 20th & the start date put back a week til weekend of the 8th Feb.
Definitely looks like they are struggling to get enough teams involved!
Which teams that you know of are in it? FB is your club entering?
We're in - The Loup.
Screen too.
Heard somewhere that every year's winner has gone on to win their respective county championship. Who else apart from Ballinderry and Glenullin have won it?
Carrickmore.
Portglenone in again.
Clan na Gael is in

cheers lad
It's a competition that is well supported by the Derry clubs. Only one group without two Derry representatives!
Only one Down club - Longstone
I thought they were going to organise this on a regional basis but there are groups with teams from Antrim, Donegal, Tyrone and Armagh. Thats alot of travelling.
I think the travelling is what is putting teams off. only one armagh senior club

they say it every year! by regional i think they mean the 9 counties of ulster region ::)
Well more like 8, no cavan teams, so less travelling to there is a bonus.

In fairness we have Derrylin and Truagh at home and Ardboe is only a scoot over the road so we can hardly complain about one long trip lad!
Our pitch is being re laid so all our matches are away apparently, including a Donegal team, Dromore and Greencastle.

Aye, i know. It was just my initial reaction given that ballyshannon is the 1st game.
I see 2 of our home ulster league games clash with the 2 derry home games at screen... i know we probably wouldn't be on the main pitch anyway but i'd say they'll have to be changed for stewarding purposes...
Probably will be moved to the top pitch on a Saturday. That is if we haven't whored it out to whatever teams want it. You'd think there were no pitches at Owenbeg the amount of Derry games held on our pitch!!!!
Greencastle -v- Dromore has been called off due to the snowy conditions.
Can't see our match being played in this weather especially up in Ballyshannon!
Goves bad snow for Sunday so there will be alot of them called off. Good job we have underground heating and a cover to put over our pitch. We haven't the best pitch in Derry for nothing :D
Clans v Dungiven called off snow in Lurgan
Also off in that group, Portglenone V Strabane. Cant see too many being played!
Group A result:
14/02/2009; Truagh (Monaghan) 2-11 Ardboe (Tyrone) 1-13.
Malin vs Clan na Gael off due to a death in Malin.

Dromore 2.5,Cargin,0.6.

Was very impressed Ziggy, well done. Something to be proud of. Two very good pitches, I would say that top one is a fantastic surface come summer time. Was slightly heavy but for this time of year, great condition. Only seen the bar just as we were leavin :o very cosy, was tempted to park the ass on a seat! Thats a good bit of land youse have there!
Lads does anyone know what way matches that have been called off have to be refixed. Are the fixtures to be reversed? Is there any time scale on when they have to be played?

Don't know what the craic is there winsamsoon. Greencastle's game with Dromore was called off last week.
Why are teams dropping out of it? Dungiven I believe are conceeding all their games, hardly worth the €200
We beat Newbridge by 9 this evening.
To tell ya the truth lads i think this Ulster League business is getting worse every year and i can't see why teams pull out and don't want to play in it ???...I know it involves a bit of travelling but to get 5 good matches for pre-season with a bit of bite in them is surely better than a friendly that you'd have to run after and organise yourself...I think some of the big teams are afraid to show their hand or afraid of getting beat and maybe knocking the confidence ???
What do you think is the reason for the lack of interest???
That's 2 points then we shall have of Dungiven sir.
I'll Decide to get in the heads of some clubs (managers) and committee members is impossible. To try would wreck your head. It seems common sense goes out the window.
Greencastle beat Greenlough tonight in the UCFL.
Dromore 3.12, Loup 1.8 , today in Dromore , with Colm Mc Cullagh registering 1.6 for the winners.

Strabanes aim this year would be to stay in intermediate football.

i was at the game and would disagree with you, to be fair strabane scored 5 of their 9 points in the first 5-10 mins without reply, befores Clans woke up and got the act together. sluggish performance from clans yet were still able to boss the game with no real danger of losing
The clans are a very young side the year and will need time to blend together so it was a decent enough performance considering the time of year

Tommy was playing and played well - directing a lot of the play - Brian didn't play but will be out again soon.
I thought Benny Murray was brilliant in the middle - great player - the Screen's two corner forwards were outstanding giving our defence a real torrid time.
Mc Williams for Screen was very good as well.
It was nip and tuck but Screem seemed to tire near the end.
Give a man a chance would you!
Ardboe 1-12 Ballinascreen 1-9, Sunday 22nd February
Ballinascreen suffered their first defeat of the year to the hands of Tyrone outfit Ardboe. A first run out for a lot of our County players it was a very competitive match between two very even teams. Screen suffered to a dubious early goal which looked to be a free out due to a push in the back, but recovered well with scores from Dean Groogan and Seamus Bradley doing all the scoring in the first half to leave it a draw at half time 1-4 to 0-7.
The second half started well with Bradley getting an early score and then Benny Muray getting a goal for the away team. The performance then faded towards the end of the second half and Ardboe tagged on some scores from Kyle Coney and Tommy McGuigan to pull away and finish the match 3 points up.
Good performances from Carlus McWilliams, Sean Woods, Ciaran McElroy and Seamus Bradley were the highlight for 'Screen. They now play Derrylin at home this Sunday 1st March.
Team & Scorers: D. Devlin, M. McShane, D. McBride, C. McWilliams, D. Scullion, M. McBride, J.F. Bradley, B. Murray(1-0), S. Woods(0-1), G. Conway(0-0), G. Bradley, D. Groogan(0-5, 4F), S. Bradley(0-4, 2F), C. McElroy, Eamon Murray. Subs: Eunan Murray for Kelly, G. Bradley for Groogan.

Anybody know the craic with Derrylin? We were supposed to play them this weekend but dont know if they forfeited or got the game postponed. Nah youse coudn't handle it ;) I think the final is played in Emyvale every year on Easter Monday although it would be kinda bad if they couldn't find somewhere more central for it... it's a great achievement for our club let's hope we can put up a decent performance at least!

Ballinderry beat Glenullin last year on Easter Monday in Glen so don't think it has to be played in Emyvale.
You'd think somewhere like greencastle would be the ideal venue for this...

Sure that's the inbred capital of Tyrone... I wouldn't give Ziggy the satisfaction of playing up there anyway :P :P :P
Healy Park would do the job!

Carrickmore? Ardboe? Aghyaran? Eglish?
All places of dubious genetics

'Screen beat Lavey 1-15 to 0-4.
No disrespect to Screen but were Lavey missing a few men?
A few maybe, Doyle and McCloy the most notable that I could think of. They still had Drumm, O'Boyle, O'Neill, Murphy all playing though (As well as Shane Devlin who must have recently transferred from Cargin) so not a massively weakened team. They didn't play well at all though in fairness to them.
FINAL:
Ballinascreen (Derry) v Dromore (Tyrone) Emyvale Weds 08/04/2009 20:15

??? ::)
Sensible!! The two clubs pitches are under 1 hour apart so they decide to make one travel over an hour and the other travel about 45mins!
And on a Wednesday night!!!
Is it defo on 2moro Screen?
Yip defo on at 8.15pm in Emyvale... disaster!!

Lavey were without at least 5 of their starting team, I'm sure screen would still have beaten us but not by the marging the did. Bumble was simply unmarkable.
Mc Cloy
Stephen Henry
Doyler
Paul Hearty
Colm Dillon
Will Hearty be back playing this year again? Was chatting to him a while ago and he wasn't sure I know he could only last a few minutes a game last year.
Think this final is always at Emyvale, they instigated this competition, though it has grown quite a bit in its geographical spread since its inception, thus clubs having to travel further for the final.
If i was yous i'd refuse to travel!!! I was at this final once, the stewarding was abysmal. :D
If yous do go - Good Luck - keep her in Doire!
Screen won by 2!
Great for the lads to won this game, can only aid their development which is going in the right direction.
Tho i'd swap an Ulster League success for 2 points against the Sirs on Tuesday!
Dromore 1.9,Ballinascreen 1.11,ColmMcCullagh hitting 1.5 for the losers.
Congratulations Ballinascreen. That is an impressive result against a good team. Well done.
Fair play to Ballinascreen on a great result, has anyone outside of Derry won it yet? lol
How many years has it been going? We've won it twice, with Glenullin and now 'Screen having won it once.
Carrickmore 2006, and Cavan Gaels in 2004, when the competition commenced.
Just back after the game (and a cupla celebratory scoops). Yeah fantastic performance from the lads as mentioned previously. Kept McCullagh very quiet (He got a goal from play after some cute hoorism from Ricey but his 5 points were all from frees I think). We were like a completely different team from the one that got beaten by Kilrea at the weekend even though it was the same personnel.
As someone said though it's nice to win but 2 points against the sirs on Tuesday (or Monday there's talk of bringing it forward) is what's important at the minute after starting the league so badly. Great game of football it has to be said played on a superb surface. Benny Murray got man of the match but there were 2 or 3 candidates just as well placed who could have gotten the award... UP THE 'SCREEN!!!!!

Aye he was playing against Glen there scored 2 or 3 points.
Mannn Screen. Good game of football last night with McCullagh scoring an absolute wonder goal, beat two men then pinged it across goal to the far top right from just inside the 21 yard line. That brought it level and when Dromore went another two up I thought it could have been curtains, but in fairness the lads dug in and pulled a result out. That mcmenamin man has some engine in him, the hoor never stopped all night!

What was the final score SM? You're up early for a man that should be celebrating!
1.11 to 1.9, i didn't bother with the celebrations, too much hassle in gettin up for work and then dyin all day today, we'll leave that to saturday, although I think there was a few boys sippin into the wee small hours, exile included i think. he's been quiet today so maybe he's took the day off and is dyin, here's hoping... ;)
Have screen the ulster leauge won? Is the final not usually on easter monday/
Yip, think the game was moved to accommodate the derry league games next monday or tuesday

Well done Screen.
Think last year's final was in Maghera though.
Fair play to Screen well done, Dromore are a quare outfit! Gave some teams a good hammering en route to the final, (ourselves included :-[).
And there was me thinking your win over us last year was a fluke :D
Congratulations to the Screen. They must have played well to beat what is an extremely good Dromore team who seemed to have a strong team on.
Congratulations Screen, that's a great result against a good Dromore side.
Congratulations to Screen on a good win over a very good Dromore team.
Apart from Benny Murray, anyone know who else played well for Screen?
Congratulations to the Screen. Good result indeed.
Two late points by Seamus Bradley saw Ballinascreen take the Ulster senior
club title at the expense of Dromore in this entertaining and very
competitive final that was played under lights in Emyvale last evening.
Ballinascreen led at half time by 1-6 to 0-4, Gavin Bradley with the goal in
the opening minute to get them off to the best possible start. Dromore took
the lead for short spell midway through the second half after Colm McCullagh
had brought them level with a well taken goal after ten minutes and they led
by two points entering the final quarter. The introduction of Ciaran
McElroy gave a new impetus to the Ballinascreen effort and they rallied with
two points form the Fermanagh ace while man of the match Benny Murray drove
them forward relentlessly for the winning scores.
