George Best would win most famous and most loved if we include historic. Well, him or Jamie Bryson.

You could throw in
Eddie Irvine
Rhys McClenaghan
Ciara McGeehan
Daniel Wiffen

Shamrock Shore

Two kinds of people in the world.. people who like Van Morrison and people who have met Van Morrison.

Quote from: Tony Baloney on February 21, 2024, 11:45:13 PMLiam Neeson. A reasonable argument could be made for Joey Dunlop. Deliberately treating Belfast as a separate entity which would probably have George Best.

I think George is a Down man there Tony, but you're welcome to him.

Interesting debate all the same and to go off on a tangent we'd the young lads up in the "paddy" Blair Mayne leisure centre in Newtownards the last few Sunday mornings for a bit of indoor hurling and as you go through one of the entrances from the car park there's a set of pictures of sporting greats from the borough on the wall, The bould Paddy (not a terrorist though) himself, Nigel Carr etc etc but no Ciara McGeehan or Rhys McClenaghan and him from the town...

Strange.

But to answer the original question, surely we're all proud of the great, great Rory McIlroy.  ;)

As a Down man I am very proud of Rory McIlroy, I can't get the hate from some quarters towards him.
