A host of past and present GAA stars will be in Bellaghy on Saturday August 13th to honour the memory of the late Catherine Quinn (nee Murray) and raise funds for charity.

Catherine, the wife of former Bellaghy and Derry footballer, Danny Quinn died on May 13 of this year. After being diagnosed with primary pulmonary hypertension nine years ago, she underwent a double lung transplant in May 2010.

Catherine and Danny have three children, Amy (15), Conor (12) and Dara (10).

A passionate Gael, Catherine was originally from Ballinascreen and her family has a long association with the local GAA club. Catherine's brother Conor captained the Derry hurlers to the Ulster title in 2001.

Two matches have been organised which will reflect the Quinn family's links to club, college and county.

The first game at 4pm will feature players from the 1994 Derry final between Ballinascreen and Bellaghy. Both clubs will field select line-ups that will include special guests from across the county.

The second game at 5pm is between the St Mary's Belfast team that won the Sigerson Cup in 1989 and members of  the Derry squad that lifted the All-Ireland title in 1993. Danny Quinn was a pivotal member of both panels.

The entire St Mary's Belfast team has already confirmed that they will in attendance on August 11. Danny's team-mates from 'The Ranch' side of '89 include Benny Tierney, Jarlath Burns, Pascal Canavan, Seamus Downey and Malachy O'Rourke.

The matches will be refereed by Monaghan's Pat McEnaney and Bellaghy's Mickey Convery. Former Armagh Allstar Jimmy Smyth will provide live commentary.
All proceeds will go to the hospitals which treated Catherine during the course of her long illness.

Bumpidy bump bump!!

A great cause and a lot of hard work and effort has gone into making the day a success, some big names from all around Ulster are taking part as well so it's guaranteed to be a great day.

It would be good if a few GAAboard heads were able to make the trip!!
