I could be wrong but I thought you had 14 days from when your MOT expires to get it passed?

If you have a date I think you can drive it.

Do they not send you out a letter about a month before your old MOT cert expires??

They do send you out a letter

mikasas

The do send a letter and its about a month in advance of when your mot is up.
You have a weeks grace from when you Mot has expired as long as you have a test booked.

They didnt send me out a letter, cos i knew mine was up and happened to mention to me mother on thursday last about why i didnt get a letter she said no i never noticed one come in for you and i said then i must book it next week. So why wouldnt i have got a letter? Would this help my case? Have a date now, so going to wait for the letter to come in post this wk then bring the letter with the date and my licence and insurance in and see how it goes and if they want to summons me then so be it.

You can do no more than that now and hopefully you'll get an understanding policeman.

Mot is a pure money spinner for the govt, cnuts.

I know.
Tell them you were on the phone to the DVLNI at the time to book the test.

It really annoys me seeing people on phones while driving..

Good enough for you that you got caught I say.....

I have to agree mobiles are dangerous when driving.  A few years ago someone rang me on my mobile when I was driving, it was a straight bit of road and I looked down for a second to see where the noise was coming from but the car in front of me indicated to go right just at the moment, I looked down at my phone then up again and saw the car in front stopped and indicating.  I slammed on the breaks hard but still hit the car in front only not as hard as I might have, her bumper was 1/2 off and the boot was a bit damaged, there was a mother driving and a wee girl in the back seat with lots of crying and all that and a few months later the obligitory claim for whiplash but if I had looked up and put the breaks on 1/4 of a second later I would have been stopping another 10-20 yards up the road and it would have been a lot worse.  Since that it has made me think twice before looking down to find a ringing phone when driving.

I have never got a reminder for the MOT, but like its easy enough to remember the date when its stuck to your windscreen....if I was able to organise mine for next week whilst I was in Cork you have no excuse.
