A baseball field generally measure 99 meters or more from plate to fence which means that a player would need to hit the ball at least 99 meters in the air to hit a home run, 99 meters is a longer distance than than most people can hit a hurling ball, the greater the distance the greater the speed needed to clear that distance so a baseball being hit for a home run would be travelling faster than most hurling balls.  A pro golfer can hit a golf ball 300 yards plus so a golf ball is travelling much faster than a baseball or a hurling ball.  I always heard hurling was the 2nd fastest field sport after ice hockey.  Not sure how they would calculate or whether they would count baseball as a field sport in that it is 1 player hitting against 8 outfield players.

Your forgetting mass ,aero dynamics and trajectory

No i'm just saying a baseball travels further than a sloither so therefore the speed has to be greater.  The fact that a hurling ball has more air resistance than a baseball is a fact which contributes to it's overall velocity.

Someone in Antrim hitting a ball at 105 mph sounds about right if the speed of a baseball is 127 mph.  A good goalkeeper would do well to hit a hurling ball 90 meters.

Does anyone know when the draws for the semi finals are to be made?

Sounds a bit like when Mark King quit snooker to go and work on a building site with his brothers as he had fallen out of love with the game.  I think he lasted about a month before he fell out of love with mixing cement.

Is Martin Clarke still getting on for Collingwood? the last few times I've watched the highlights programme on RTE there has been no mention of him.

I sometimes wonder if the health industry really wants to find the cure to Cancer?  They make a lot of money on treating symptoms of this horrible disease and would surely miss out on this if they discovered a cure.

Don't think we are supposed to drink beer, eat meat, have saturated fats from butter etc, bread has some preservative which is bad for you ...  I think I will just take my chances.

Tesco Greenfarm processed ham €28.50 per kg
Superquinn fresh ham €4.79 per kg

The study said that people should not eat bacon as well as ham.  It is to do with the curing (for the bacon anyhow) not with it being processed.

Tomorrow someone else will say cheese and milk are bad for you, next week it could be spagetti hoops and that we will all live to 150 as long as we eat plenty of ham and bacon.

Maybe I'm mad, but I think it's reasonable to expect someone coming to your wedding to at least cover the cost of the day you put on for them. Do you expect a wedding to be about a gift from the couple to you? If you don't want to pay your way then don't go. In the vast majority of cases the couple won't really care if you go or not. Don't kid yourself that they'll miss you.
Weddings these days are very expensive affairs (and some of the expense is crazy). I don't know what the going rate is in the North but I'd be giving a minimum of 200 for a wedding; 250 for some I know fairly well and 300 for a friend or someone in the family. I try to cover the cost and then give a gift to the couple on top of that. The more I like them, the bigger the gift. Although if someone drags me half way across Ireland for no reason (e.g. a couple from Galway getting married in Wexford) then I'll factor my expenses into that too.

I love weddings BTW. There's something uniquely Irish about the way the day goes.

I hate that, you give a minimum of 200 pound then everyone is expected to do the same.  People should pay for the cost of there meal and add a bit more (if they can afford to).  I have been to 2 weddings in the last couple of months with stag parties, 2 nights in a hotel for the wedding...  I was just thinking the other day, thank f&*k I have no more to go to this year as they have me broke.

Wedding lists are great!  Who wants to be trailing round a shop looking for something that they might not want when you can just look up the web for there wedding list and buy them something from it in about 20 seconds.  Most people just give money which is what people generally would like (they can buy there own toaster, wine glasses etc. with the money).

Im not talking about Dundrum v Ardglass you ballbag.

Its your lack of disregard for the JFC is what f**ks me off.

Look you arsehole, im sure 80% of people on this forum arent busting a gut to find out the results of the JFC
I'm not passing opinion on a match between the "Kinlar and Techonaught because to be honest i couldnt give a shite!
I'm not degrading the JFC, its just a fact!

Of course you are degrading the JFC.

Considering dundrum play ardglass in the intermediate championship I doubt either will win it!  You are only really showing your ignorance.

There may be plenty of people who do not follow the junior championship that closely as there team does not play in it, there is also plenty of people who do not follow the senior championship that closely as there team are not playing in it.

I'll bet winning the junior championship meant as much to St John's last year as winning the senior did to Mayobridge.

There is a competition on this forum to see who can predict the most championship results, if you want to play then fill in all the results otherwise you are just being a p***k.

5/2 Ardglass  7/1   Carryduff  1/3

12.50 for a hotdog, what a rip off!  I think I would starve while the match is on and get something decent for 12.50 afterwards.

the st.pauls player was blocking his runs resulting in the incident

So he was kicked on the head for blocking someone's runs, the guy has to have a metal plate inserted.

Football should never come to that, people have to go to work the next day.
