I think a bible study class is good if the facilitator knows what they are at and you are going for the right reasons.  If drawing closer to God is taking a back seat to rooting over the women in attendance then maybe the class isn't for you......

There was a girl in our class at uni who was a christian who apparently was a bit of a goer if she had a few drinks in her so maybe Aerlik is on to something.

I think that they got the chop as they where historically inaccurate - the stories conflict with real, recorded events.

If they are going to start cutting out bits because they don't sound real then Moses parting the red sea or talking to the burning bush sounds a bit far fetched.  I'm not sure about Adam giving Eve one of his ribs either.  There might not be much left if they keep going like that.

First night last night.  Usual suspects, holier-than-thou's and holy Joes and Josephines.    We didn't do anything earth-shattering but I did learn why the Catholic Bible is different from the Protestant one.

Trivia.  Catholic Bibles have 73 books.  Protestant ones have 66.

There's going to be some craic discussing the origins of humanity.  One wee wummin proclaimed that it is the truth since the beginning of mankind on earth.  I foresee a debate.

Why did the other 7 get the chop then?  I sometimes wonder how they decided whether someone was a prophet or just had too many magic mushrooms.

Also there where multiple gospels, not just the 4 we generally here about.  Gospel of Thomas, James, Peter, Judas ..

Is that not what happens in rugby? someone gets on the wrong side in a ruck and gets stood on.

1 - o'rourke is the most bitter anti armagh man you could ever meet.
he traded on being the big armagh hater in down for years. i vividly remember his tv interview circa early 2004 claiming armagh were finished and wouldn't be back for a long time. his supposed "motivational skills" are based entirely on monologues surrounding the subjects of red and black blood running through veins, glorifying the history of the down jersey and eulogising sean o'neill, james mccartan et al. The thought that we have handed over the development of our senior team and the integration of our successful minor & u21 teams to this man turns my stomach.

Duffleking your a first class gobsh*te. Unless you know the man personally i dont think your in a great position to judge what he personally thinks of Armagh. Is there something wrong with him expressing (if he even did) the OPINION that Armagh were finished and wouldnt be back for a long time. And whoever told you about the red n Black blood thing and eulogising about past players was also completely wrong. It turns my stomach to read such vile comments and pure sh*te from some posters on here. be mad at your county board, be mad at your sponsors, be mad at each other, but Paddy O Rourke is a decent gale with a fine background only trying to do the best he can. Hang him and abuse him if he fails miserably but ffs give the man a chance to prove himself. Get over yourselves.

His sources of motivation come directly from down players so bring it up with them. would he have lied to the players in down dressing rooms? these are the same down players who don't rate the man as a manager. being a great player and the respect that goes with it does not demand respect as a manager, that has to be earned.

he is a down gael with a down background. that earns him respect in general terms but it means nothing when he comes to armagh in my view.

also, this "doing the best he can" crap - don't talk shite. he's feathering his own nest. he's not coming to armagh for the good of armagh football. he's here because he thinks he can further his own agenda.

And what would that be? Do we have a cospiracy theory evolving here.? ::)

I simply meant for his own credability, considering the ridicule that he is held in within down.

he probably couldn't believe his luck being offered a job with the potential that armagh have given his own record.

If anything he is taking over Armagh in a similar position to Down where when he got the down job.  i.e.  A lot of the legends have retired and he has to start building again.  It won't be an easy job.

Paddy O'Rourke has a very good record at club management level, he won a couple of Down championships managing Burren and nearly an ulster title, then took on the Castleblaney job and won 4 or 5 county titles with them and took the scalp of Crossmaglen in the Ulster championship which is more than most managers in Armagh.  His record with Down was poor, in saying that they could have won an Ulster Championship in 2003, when they played the 2nd 1/2 of the ulster final with 14 men and Peter Canavan won a dubious penalty to get a draw.  After that it did not work out.  He also took Down under 21's to an All Ireland final.  I'm not saying it will work out with Armagh but his club management record is better than most.

Wobbller, on yesterdays performance i don't see anyone increasing thier chances of any senior county appearance in the near future and thats from both sides, although i'm sure Kilcoo won't give a toss about that at the minute.  As for C Laverty i'm still not convinved - yes he did win ball and there will be few in 'Down' that will cope with him (but other inter County defenders will not be that naive) also he was completely isolated up front - it is very easy to win ball when you have 40 yds of space in either direction infront of you for most of the game - i don't believe he scored from play! but with Jerome now involved there will probably be a few Kilcoo lads called up.

So Down have few defenders that could cope with his pace but that doesn't mean he should be in the down panel?  There is plenty of defenders in other counties who wouldn't fancy marking him either.  I don't think James McCartan will buy the too small argument somehow.

Well done Kilcoo. It's been a long wait but don't enjoy it too much! The Donegal Champions are waiting for you.
Yes congratulations to Kilcoo. Well deserved over the course of the campaign, but L'island will be kicking themselves. They should have been out of site by halftime but lack of a free taker proved very expensive.
Dan almost anonymous today but that game was their for the taking.
Really cant see Kilcoo doing much damage in Ulster but here's hoping

Lastly poor Gabriel Tumelty, what can I say ::) ::)

Disagree completely.  Some of Dan's fielding and running with the ball was exceptional.  A good free taker and they would have been 5 or 6 up after 1/2 time.  Once Kilcoo got the first goal and got in front there was no stopping them.

QuoteLets diverve some of the money being syphoned off to promote hurling outside the ards into getting a GAA presence back into our major towns

Some good points EHD but how much exactly do you think is being syphoned off?  At a rough guess I would say about £2.58.

The non Ards clubs promote hurling by themselves with little support from anywhere else.

The state of Gaelic football in our major towns is a disgrace.

That's the problem with townies though, no loyalty to their club.   ;)

Don't think it has anything to do with money.  More that a lot of the players play soccer so when the games move to the Saturday they are not committed to gaelic football.  Loughinisland have a few players who play soccer but there first priority is to gaelic football until the gaelic season ends.  The opposite would be the case with Downpatrick I think.

Doee anyone know why only some Round 21 league fixtures are going ahead this weekend while some teams such as Castlewellan and Liatroim now have a 3 week break between games? Surely all games should  be played this Saturday (Obviuosly not those involving Loughinisland or Kilcoo)
More ridiculous scheduling by the county board.

Exactly, Bryansford are due to play L'Island and have asked to play it under lights some evening next week to keep the thing going - players not getting a game for three weeks this time of year is out of order.

Leitrim and Castlewellan are just above the drop zone as well, could come down to both of them needing a draw to stay up or 1 of them needing a win and the other having nothing to play for.  The last couple of rounds of games should always be played together.

Some great options in midfield and in the forwards

Midfield
Gordon
Rodgers
King

Forwards
Walsh
M Clarke
J Clarke
McComiskey
Coulter
McKernan
Laverty
Hughes

A few of the young guys like Peter Fitzpatrick and Magee from the u21's would be good options as well.

If they could learn to defend like Tyrone they would have a great team.  A couple of Ricey McMenamin's in defence would be handy.

We had a quiz in Geography class every so often when I was at school, the winning team got no homework the next day or something.  The teacher asked in which county is Coleraine (can't remember the actual question) and a guy put his hand up and answered Londonderry.  His team got docked 5 points.

But wasn't his answer correct?  I think that there was never a County Derry in terms of the modern county structure - since it came into place it has been called Londonderry.  I may be completely wrong on that.

On the schools thing - that's a disgrace, and the headmaster and board of governors should be rightly embarrassed.

Interestingingly enough (I think), I was looking through the 1911 census and there was no mention of Londonderry on it and this is people filling in there own forms in predominantly protestestant areas of Derry.

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Londonderry/Coleraine/Church_Walls/

If you click on the census forms for any of the names (I just chose a street at random) they all put county as Derry.  It seems to be a more modern thing that it has started to be refereed to as Londonderry by some people.

I read somewhere that in Kerry at under age level they concentrate more on the development of skills, kicking of both feet etc. where as other teams would concentrate on physical size and plenty of laps etc.  Take the Gooch for example if he was from Dublin he might not have got on the minor team as he would be seen as too small.
