Don't know much about them but results so far aren't great.
Who's over the minor team?
Mick Lillis is manager.
Selectors are John Strong and Kieran Kelly.
Great win for the minors against Dublin over the weekend. Anyone at it? Anyone know the team?
I saw that result. Looking at the groups though there are two teams Dublin and Ath Cliath. Hard to know how strong the Dublin team is?
doesn't matter any win over the Dubs is a bonus
So these young lads are out this weekend. Away to Meath is going to be tough! Anyone know how they are going?
Minor footballers face daunting opener as they travel to Navan
The Laois minor footballers will begin their Leinster MFC campaign this weekend, as they face a daunting trip to Navan to take on Meath.
Laois travel with only one big injury concern, that of Portarlington's Rob Piggott, who damaged ankle ligaments a few weeks ago, but apart from that manager Mick Lillis has a full squad to pick from.
The squad have been boosted also by the All-Ireland success of Graiguecullen trio Trevor Collins, Brian Byrne and Jer Brennan, all of whome played their part in Carlow CBS winning their first All-Ireland Colleges 'B' final last Saturday in Croke Park.
They will have to channel that feel-good factor into the rest of the squad, however, as Laois have struggled to make an impression at minor intercounty level in recent years.
Laois' last meeting with Meath, in 2013, resulted in a 2-13 to 0-9 loss. To make matters worse, Laois haven't beaten one of the big three in Leinster - Dublin, Kildare and Meath - at minor level since the victory over Dublin in the 2007 quarter-final replay.
Looking ahead to the game, manager Mick Lillis admitted it was a big challenge facing his side. "Meath are a very serious team, when you play one of Dublin, Kildare or Meath in minor level in Leinster, your playing catch up, and this year is not any different. Meath would be much bigger, physically than us, and that's a drawback at this grade."
Meath's two midfielders clock in at 6'4 and 6'7, meaning Laois will have to be smart with their kickouts to avoid playing to Meath's strengths. Having the game in Navan is tough too, but Lillis is hopeful his side can turn in a performance. "Going to Navan is a drawback, and you'd be hoping the ref will be strong enough to make the hard calls, and that's not something we are used to seeing.
"Too much of them go with the team that's expected to win and that can make life difficult for teams trying to make the breakthrough. All we can do is go there well prepared and perform to the best of our abilities."
There are a number of players involved from last year, with Barrowhouse's Brian Daly one player of note after impressing in the Leinster Colleges SFC 'A' with Ardscoil na TrĂnoide from Athy. Conor Behan, David Aston, Aaron Dowling, Colm Murphy, Trevor Collins and Brian Byrne all survive from the team which were beaten in last year's semi-final against Meath.
Throw in this Saturday in Navan is 3pm.
Is the team named?
I heard Lillis has waited until an hour or so before to name his team, even to the players. Surely a risky decision? What team would have been sent in for the match day program?
Is that Joe Higgins young lad on the panel? Hope the apple didn't fall far from the orchard - Joe was one of the greats
Heavy defeat anyone got any information?
A lot of good young club players were overlooked for this panel.
Would have no faith in Lillis.

Who should be in there that's not (I'm not having a go, it's an honest question I'm not that familiar with the players at this level)? I'm sure there are some good players not involved but that may be by choice
Some decent forwards there in Moore, Murphy and Dowling, disappointing to be beaten before half time
Did I hear right that there were no trials for the minor football this year and merely just picked lads? Hope I'm wrong would be mad to think Lillis picked lads considering he'd been managing senior clubs the past few years and possibly away from younger age group. Still a good wealth of experience he has nonetheless.
I've been away from Laois for last while so inside knowledge not as much as i'd like :D
ELECTRIC IRELAND LEINSTER MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Round Two:

Laois v Wicklow O Moore Park, Portlaoise (7.30)
Quarter final draw has been made and winners of Laois v Wicklow will play winners of Offaly v Kildare.
Any word on a team for tonight?
I have seen Wicklow play against Longford in the last round and they are very poor, they have a good no9 and little else, I would be expecting an easy enough win for Laois tonight.
I hope your right .....Yes the big Byrne lad can play football as can O'Shea in the half forward line but hopefully Laois can get the ball into Sean Moore, young Murphy and Dowling then we should make progress!
Laois score 4 goals in the last 5 mins to win 5-13 to 1-13
Unreal second half of football
Sean Moore gets 3-9 I think the best individual performance I ever seen in a Laois shirt and I'm watching Laois over 25 years
Great to get the win but it was a draw match with 7 mins to go. How good/bad were Laois as Wicklow got a fair trimming in their last game.
Impressed with the bottle our lads showed this evening. To be leading all game and get pegged back to level after their goal and then hit straight back with a goal of our own was impressive. Cathal Dunne from ballylinan and Shane Smyth from portlaoise look like good prospects. Sean Moore is a county star in the making. what an instinct for goal
Great win last night, see we are playing Kildare in the next round. They could be short a few after their game with Offaly last night if suspensions are handed out...QuoteThe Leinster Council is set to investigate claims that players were punched, head-butted and even bitten during the post-match brawl that marred last night's Leinster MFC clash between Kildare and Offaly in Tullamore.
The provincial body is expected to use video evidence to identify and punish those involved in the disgraceful scenes which followed Kildare's 0-14 to 0-13 victory. The fracas broke out in front of the terrace side of O'Connor Park and involved players and supporters from both sides.
Speaking on Midlands 103 this morning, Pat Nolan of the Irish Daily Mirror claimed that one of the Offaly players had been bitten on the ear. The player posted a picture of same on his twitter account before later deleting it. Nolan also claimed that some of the Kildare substitutes had started the row by "goading" the opposition after the final whistle.
Offaly manager Keith Begley condemned the violent scenes when speaking to Midlands 103 after the game.
"I just saw people running in. That shouldn't happen," he said after his side's gut-wrenching defeat.
"There's no place for that in football. There were people there running out of the stands to get involved. It's not what we're about and it's not what the players are about.
"Sometimes people wear their badge on their chest. They were very disappointed about how a couple of injustices were done."
Report on the game here..

Only 1 suspension I think.
Will our minors have enough to get over Kildare on Friday night?
Poor against Meath with late goals taking the bad look off the score. Aside from Sean Moore not very impressive against Wicklow. MAybe they have a kick in them after that win.
1 suspension for such a big row seems low but thats the GAA world we live in...
In any case thats beside the point now, Kildare are a decent team and Laois will find it hard to win I'd say but you never know with minor level. Expect Moore to be targeted and he wont have it easy so its up to the rest of forwards to win this for us IMO.
Remember this... Where did it all go wrong lads ????

This time tomorrow our neighbours could be in an all-ireland final. Was this years team underrated?
