It's hard to look past Donegal. The panic set in with Mayo from 50 minutes on,Donegal don't seem to do panic, apart from the last few minutes of the Kerry game.

Having said that the Donegal game is based around keeping the score tight and then hitting teams on the break and in the last 20 minutes that their fitness levels begin to tell. If someone got a 3/4 point lead on them at halftime it would be interesting to see how they would react.

Also no-one in the media seems to be giving Mayo a chance which is a great way to go into the final.

Earley is a bit of a spoofer but as an outsider I think Utd should have looked to strengthen midfield.Scholes and Cleverley are both at wrong age.

Utd couldn't get close to Barca in 2010 (who could?) and slipped further behind last year. They need someone in the mould of Xavi, Scweinsteiger,Alonso etc who can control a game.

Moutinho would have been a great fit for Utd. Looked a class act in the Euros.

Was hoping for more than 12m, but city being city have paid it all up front so will be interesting to see what Moyes does with it. I'd be expecting Matt Philipps, a full back and he might take a punt on Jordan Rhodes. Mancini the t**t says Rodwell will be at a club who plays to win for the first time. Jesus, he hates us. Toffees love getting stuck into the t**ts especially at Goodison.
Mancini's record v Everton. Played 6 on 1 Lost 5. Sounds like sour grapes all right.

Moyes should have looked for Adam Johnson on loan as part of the deal. That and a move for Clint Dempsey.

Gutted the Olympics are over I really enjoyed the last few weeks. Sport at its best!!

Maybe because it's only every 4 years but the Olympics is still something special. Think there is a genuine feeling of sadness that it's all over.

I like football as much as the next man but really not in the mood yet for the circus of the Premier League returning next weekend.
+1. Was looking forward to the Euros more than the Olympics but am really gonna miss the games now they are over. The sheer endeavour and determination, delight at medals or personal bests warmed the spirit. Hard to look forward to the diving and snide remarks of the PL but give it a few weeks and it will be business as usual.

125 caps and apart from the last 6 months or so a model of consistency.Best keeper Ireland ever had.

Performance that stands out was a 1-0 win for Ireland in Cyprus about 2004/2005.

Rory starting to slip back. 2 under currently.Still only 3 off the lead.

At some stage he will learn to play conservatively sometimes a par is ok on a par 5.

Joe Allen - an expensive Charlie Adam or a cheap Luka Modric?

At present we have at least 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze. When the final table is calculated and you look at it per capita this will have been a very good performance. We should have a had a few more (Joe Ward absolutely done in qualifiers (before results started being overturned), Annalise Murphy dropping the ball) so I'd argue things are getting better. The past is the past.
I'd agree that for the current games it's not a shabby return. The aim should be now to ensure that "Team Ireland" wins at least one gold and at least five medals in total in future games from Rio 2016 onwards.
I'd say if someone could work out a medals per head of population table Ireland would be quite high on it.

In terms of support and conditions though this was as close to a home games as Ireland will ever have so it could be looked at as a missed opportunity in some respects.

1) More women boxers - there were only 12 fighters in some of the divisions.

2) Golf (coming in 2016)- already punching above our weight professionally.

3) Rugby (Is 7s coming in 2016?)

4) Fishing - surely there should be enough global support to get this accepted?

5) Shooting.

It's hard to predict 5 years ahead. 2 years ago few would have predicted Donegal with more or less the same panel of players who were hammered in Crossmaglen would win back to back Ulster titles.

Cork and Dublin should be in the mix for the forseeable future. If Mickey Harte stays with Tyrone you would expect them to come good at some stage.Kerry is the most interesting one gien the miles on the clock of a lot of the players. Is there sufficient talent coming through?

Down have had decent success at underage over the last 15 years but it hasn't translated into senior success.

Rory Kavanagh must be in with a shout in midfield, he has always had skill in abundance but this has been the most consistent year I have seen him have.

Bryan Sheehan.
One of the best.Definitely the best striker of a ball but the 45 he missed to level the 2008 final with a few minutes to go sticks out.

When the pressure was on for Cross or Armagh Oisin McConville would always deliver (I know he missed the pen in 2002 but he came good late in the game when it counted)

Katie Taylor is a fabulous boxer and brilliant to watch. Hopefully now she will go on to win a gold that she deserves after dominating her sport for so long.

However why is there such hype around her compared to John Joe Nevin, who has reached the same stage by a harder route or Barnes/Conlon if they win their next fights? Is it just that we love a winner and she is seen as more of a sure thing?

Great to get off the mark with a medal today.

Tomorrow will hopefully bring another medal for Annalise Murphy and if Katie Taylor and maybe Paddy Barnes could win one it wouldn't be a bad return overall.
