General discussion / Re: snooker world championship

In the last few years pool has become huge game overtaking snooker in Ireland. 200+ entries for Irish ranking events and over 700 at the All Ireland's held in the Gleneagle in Killarney every year. Not to talk about the many money matches that take place.

When Down and Cork were caught training the GAA also announced that a 3rd Leinster county had been caught. Why were they never named🙄🙄🙄🙄

They talked about having potential herd immunity there too so on that front it's not good either.
It's also a lesson as regards the concept of vaccine acquired herd immunity

The Astra Zeneca vaccine doesn't seem to be very effective against the South African variant

I suspect we could see a big spread of that variant or another similarly evasive variant this summer or autumn
the Astra Zenica vaccine prevents serious illness even against the varients. I think we could all live with it if it turns into something more like a cold.

South have made a mistake suspending use of the Astra Zenica vaccine imo. Their vaccination programme has been woeful and this won't help.
Furthermore the fact that they didn't go an order vaccine from lots of different companies was a huge oversight. Not a good week for the government in the 26.

Is it not the EU who procure it?  I still think something fishy went on with UK and AZ, the fact that they have so many plants there just makes me suspicious that they aren't playing fair with EU or that Boris and the boys somehow turned the screw. I could be away off the mark
surely it's in the UKs best interest that the EU economy recovers as quick as possible. We can't do that without vaccines.

What would the normal incidence of these clots be in a similar population who had not received the vaccine?
the amount of clots as a percentage is lower in all the people vaccinated with the astra Zenica vaccine than it is in the general population.

The new supporters club seems to be getting approval. Any county with aspirations needs a functioning supporters club so best of luck to Bryan Breen and co.
one of the best parts of the supporter's club could be buses to the away games. I remember a few years back we played Roscommon in a league game in Portlaoise and they had huge numbers. A Roscommon fella beside me explained the supporter's club put on the buses at a tenner a head return. If the supporter's club only achieved that it would be a huge positive.

The stuff on the last couple of pages of this thread is poisonous shite that no one wants to read.

Petty, repugnant flame wars waged by self obsessed, attention craving c***ts not only bore the shite out of the rest of us, but destroy the opportunity for others to develop a real discussion.

And this crap isn't just contained here, it's flung all over the board to the extent that practically every popular thread reeks of it.

If our new mod is going to let things like this fly then the board is as good as done. Moderating an internet forum is about cultivating an environment that encourages contributors to produce the content for which we're all here. The environment about this place at the minute is toxic and inhospitable.

You're probably trying to drag me into this but I only contribute on a few threads and from what I remember you like to dish out a few insults when you have your own views challenged.
as far as I can see you are nearly on every thread.

If everyone who wants to be vaccinated is vaccinated by September, why not full stadiums by October or November?

J and J haven't applied in the UK. 70% effective over all. 100% effective for serious illness and keeping people out of hospital. This really could be the game changer.

Seafoid if covid does come back from it's holidays as you say in September, why should it matter that much? Most adults will be vaccinated by then. That should turn covid into the equivalent of a mild flu even for the varients. Life has to go on at some stage.

Not sure about dates for starting training. But it wouldn't surprise me if we end up with a season very similar to last season. It would suit  the GAA also. The vaccination process hopefully picks up in the next few months and we have most adults done by September. Then maybe crowds could start to come back for inter county.

Benny more data is due on that in the next couple of weeks. But it looks like vaccines at least reduce transmission.

All the vaccines prevent serious illness if you contract covid even the varients. Meaning it turns covid into something more like a cold or mild flu. Surely people can live with that.

Tim Spector, well known epidemiologist said today he can't see large scale events like sports and concerts coming back for years even large weddings!!!! How could that be justified if vaccinations essentially turn this into something no worse than a cold or flu.

The best one to go for is the first one your offered. Whether one is 90% effective and another 70% doesn't really matter. All the vaccines keep you from getting really sick which is all that really matters.
