All I need now is Kildare to lose to wrap up a truly shit weekend sport wise.

The most unfathomable thing is that Man United squad is probably the worst squad ever to win the EPL just goes to show how we over rate the Arsenal squad. No Vidic's, Evra's, Giggs. Schole's, Rooney's no leaders period. Good enough to qualify for UCL and eh that's it.....summer will be interesting...

Yea but Almunia and Lehman are there. I'd rather Pat Jennings came out of retirement.

Wenger hits out against 'superficial judgment

By Chris Harris

Arsène Wenger is fighting back against the "superficial judgment" that has been passed down on his team this week.

Arsenal's 0-0 draw with Blackburn last weekend left them seven points adrift of Manchester United in the title race - albeit with a game in hand - and deepened the gloom that set in among fans after cup defeats to Birmingham, Barcelona and United.

But the media coverage of Arsenal's so-called 'disastrous' predicament bothers Wenger and he put his point across strongly when he faced reporters at Friday's pre-match press conference.

"I'm against superficial judgment, that's what I fight against," said the manager.

"For example people ask 'why don't you buy central defenders?'. We have a better defence than Man United if you look at the numbers, but nobody mentions that. And should we kick Vermaelen, Djourou and Szczesny out? What for?

"We've done well for our age as we're second in the league. Is that a disaster for you? There are teams who invest ten times more than us, one player cost more than the whole team and they're behind us. I don't understand the way people think.

"Do you judge this season or the last four seasons? Some of the clubs behind us have done nothing for 20 years, yet suddenly they get a lot of praise. I don't understand.

"We have eight games to go and are in a position to fight for the championship so let's give the maximum. If we're disappointed at the end then OK. Why do you say it's a disaster when we're second in the league? Do the 18 clubs behind us have a fantastic disaster?

"Trophies are one way to judge a club. They're not overrated as it allows you to say you've won a trophy, but would you swap winning the FA Cup for playing in the Champions League? Is it a trophy or not to be in the Champions League? Is it more important to win the FA Cup?

"We do as well as we can, and if it's not good enough it's not good enough. But what I deny is that everything is suddenly negative. We've built this club. Look at the players in this team I'll speak to you in ten years."

Oh do shut up Arsene, no matter how legitimate your argument it will be portrayed as a whinge in the media about feeble excuses.

My own only fear is that Wenger is prepared to go 20 years without winning a trophy.

Good News/Bad News?

A Sad Day I think

QuoteEnglish Premier League soccer club Arsenal said this morning that
it has agreed to be taken over by American billionaire Stan
Kroenke in a deal which would value the club at UK£ 731m.

Kroenke, who already owns close to 30 pc of the North London club,
said he had offered Arsenal shareholders UK£ 11.75 per share and
had already secured the backing of 16.1 pc shareholder Danny
Fiszman and 15.9 pc shareholder Nina Bracewell-Smith.

Kroenke, who owns several major sports teams in the United States,
now controls 63 pc of the club, which currently lies second in the
league behind rivals Manchester United.

"Arsenal is a fantastic club with a special history and tradition
and a wonderful manager in Arsene Wenger. We intend to build on
this rich heritage and take the club to new success," Kroenke said
in a statement.

Arsenal have gone six years without a trophy since their FA Cup
success in 2005 and fans have been frustrated as their spending on
players lagged behind rivals such as Chelsea and Manchester City.

Manager Wenger welcomed the takeover.

"I have worked with Stan Kroenke at board meetings over the past
couple of years and I believe he has the best interests of Arsenal
at heart. He understands the club's heritage and traditions and
our ambition to run the club in a way which protects our long term
future," he said.

Under Takeover Panel rules, Kroenke is now compelled to make an
offer for the remaining shares.

Russian steel magnate Alisher Usmanov is Arsenal's other major
shareholder, holding a 27 pc stake through his Red and White
vehicle.
