Some result tonight with westmeath beating Kilkenny.

Carlow beat Laois ( a shock in its own regard)

Offaly beat Kildare

Just came in to say the same. What a bloody win. After beating Wexford at minor last year, and now that result tonight Westmeath hurling is on the crest of a wave. Galway coming to Mullingar Sunday week. Could be interesting

Sean3

Great result for Westmeath and also for Carlow. Both counties obviously doing good work at underage.

AZOffaly

Brilliant result for Westmeath. Well done to them. And Carlow also. And Offaly!

Massive scalp for Westmeath. KK missed a penalty late on.

In the 6th minute of injury time. Literally the last puck.

Cody: hurling is a man's game.

Yeah Brian, especially when being assaulted by hurleys

Croí na hÉireann

Fecking delighted. They may stick to the football from now on.
Westmeath - Home of the Christy Ring Cup...

Asal Mor

Well done to Westmeath. Incredible.

How did that injury even happen, with a helmet and faceguard?

Always brilliant to see KK beaten at any level, but knowing them, they'll still get four or five All-Ireland winners and all-stars from this team.

AZOffaly

Looks to me like it was the faceguard that did it. Maybe his helmet was driven back into his face?

Dinny Breen

Great wins for Westmeath and Carlow, I suspect that the GAA after seeing these two great wins will decide more investment is needed................for Dublin..

15 hurling clubs in Westmeath.

Imagine what they could do with some proper coaching funding.

Fair point. A lot of the recent successes (last year's minors, plus very competitive minor and u21 teams the past 5 years) have been down to a few strong clubs (Clonkill, Raharney, Castletown-geoghegan)  producing a number of quality players. It hasn't really been a coordinated approach. The Mullingar town team, St.Oliver Plunketts haven't been able to field underage teams for a number of years, after being the top underage team in the county for ten years from the mid 90's. And Athlone is a black hole for hurling.
