The 3 Kerry clubs win by 21, 22 and 19 points...impressive.

All within a stones throw from Killarney town, I'd say there's no more than 5 to 6 Km between them.

There is a caveat with Kerry Intermediate and Junior teams. They are really Senior B and Intermediate B teams respectively when you take into account there are only 8 Senior teams in Kerry.

Kerry have 8 senior, 16 intermediate and 16 premier junior teams.

So the intermediate champions are the 9th best club in the county and the junior champions are 25th.

League position has nothing to do with the grade a club plays in, you can only move from premier junior to intermediate by winning the premier junior championship...but out of curiosity I checked where the teams playing today finished in this year's county league.  There are 12 teams in each of the top 4 divisions.

Dr. Crokes finished top of Div 1.

Intermediate champions Kilcummin finished 2nd in Div 2, 14th overall

Junior champions Beaufort finished 10th in Div 1.

That's mad Ted. These guys finished 1 and 2 points behind Dingle and An Ghaeltacht in the Kerry Senior Div 1 league and play junior championship. That's like Ballinascreen playing in the Derry Junior Championship. Crazy

League and championship are different.  County players play very few, if any, league games, which puts a big asterisk on a club's league position if they have a few county men.

Just seeing highlights on tg4. Cork club football must not be good at the minute.

Football at all levels in Cork is not in a good place - by rights Cork should be the natural number 2 to Dublin but decades of mismanagement by the county board have meant Cork are miles off the pace.

A few County men down, but you're still talking about div 1 teams playing at div 1 level, conditioned to play at that level and speed. Then playing div 3 junior teams from other counties.

True.  The Kerry system of only 8 senior clubs seems to be the issue, along with mandatory relegation if bottom of championship level.  A lot of counties don't have any real relegation.

It would be interesting to see where county intermediate and junior champions rank in their own county leagues.

I just can't understand why more counties don't adopt a similar setup to the one Kerry have.

As far as I know the current system was in place before the All-Ireland Club Intermediate and Junior competitions started and even then the divisional structure was always mentioned as a factor as to why Kerry intercounty team were so successful.

Then the All-Ireland Club Intermediate and Junior competitions started and Kerry clubs have had a very strong (if not the strongest) record in those competitions adding even more evidence that the Kerry structures were the best/among the best.

It just seems like madness to me that a whole raft of other counties haven't tried to adopt a system as close to the Kerry one as possible.

Yup and they have even done a fairly miserable job at the hurling too.

The results of the Cork lady footballers and the Cork camogie players really shows up just how rancid the efforts of the Cork County Board have been over the last 20/30 years.

I see the Kerry Intermediate (Senior B) and Junior (Intermediate B) Champions are enjoying their cremation of their respective grades in Munster.

There is a huge disparity given how Kerry organise their championships alright, and in fairness to Cork they honourably send forward their junior champions to the junior grade and not the intermediate champions.

Who sends their intermediate champions to junior grade?
