I know it's maybe small scale given everything that's going on, but just wondering if someone could advise. We ordered a table and couple of units from Laura Ashley last week. We took out a store card with them at the time as they offered an added 10% discount if we did. We planned that we'd just pay it off straight away. Delivery won't be until 6-8 weeks.
Now obviously the company is going into administration and I was just wondering what the best course of action would be? As it's a store card (Mastercard)are we covered if the order doesn't arrive?
I haven't spoken with them yet as wanted to see legally what our options were?

Not sure Trueblue. I'd say there are a huge number of stories like this. Hard times.

We were looking at getting a fresher car but not sure now. Obviously less money about now.

Will cars be a bit cheaper now?

While not an expert, there are 2 parties to this transaction and one party is now unable to fulfill their end of the contract. I would say it's null and void.

I'd get on the horn with MasterCard ASAP

Cheers. Not even sure what is happening yet. I'm glad we didn't pay cash which was what we were planning to do originally. And if the order comes then happy days but was wondering are we covered if the order is cancelled by Laura Ashely. As our dept now stands with Mastercard?

I'd Imagine a lot of people going from month to month with bills and spending will be in a lot of trouble

They'll have to be, can't see how demand will remain the same and its like every other market. There's certainly going to be an opportunity to get a bargain from a second had car dealer. I was selling a flat and the buyer pulled out on Monday as he has lost his job apparently.

That's tough for all concerned. The uncertainty of it all.
We'll leave the car for a few months and see what happens.

House prices will crash now I'd say. It'll be a tough road ahead.

The Trap

On a different note I thought I would try deferring the mortgage and a personal loan at Danske and Ulster Bank- held on 2 separate occasions for over an hour on the phone to speak to someone in the "right department" before hanging up. Don't think this will be possible to survive financially unless Boris follows the lead of Scandanavia and France.

Its tough to know whether they'll crash or not, certain areas of the UK are always affected first like the North East which will be a good indicator.
