That u21 would rot your hole. Supposedly best u21 we have on paper and manage to fall at 1st hurdle. Absolutely raging with that result!
It's hardly possible to build anything if frustration, bitterness and a mood of helplessness prevail

6 points up with 7 mins to go and blew it

What a disappointment.  We looked tired and sluggish to say the least.
nobody able to contest a high ball.
Are they burnt out from training with snr panel or is it just not in the county?
Thought this team were going to be better than what we got tonight

Yet again - and until we learn/coach our players how to catch and hold on to a ball we will never, ever, ever win a match against meaningful opposition again. Over the past 20 years or so, we've been gradually reeled in by the likes of Westmeath, Kerry, Carlow etc... now we can get used to being beaten by them in the future years.

Eventually we're going to be a struggling Christy Ring team in another twenty years.

Tough loss to take. Guilty of thinking the game was won with five minutes to go. Valuable lesson learned but its a massive disappointment to lose that game last night. Fatigue was certainly evident-it's not that these lads aren't fit but energy levels weren't there at the end. It's a bitter pill to take. A 4/5 point victory looked nailed on from early out and had we held on I would have been reasonably happy with performance and hopeful of upping it a gear to challenge Kilkenny next day out. It's back to the drawing board and our next realistic prospects at underage is our U15 panel.

I think that's the most disappointing thing. Being ahead the whole game and giving a good lead away like that in the dying minutes. It's not like it's the first time we've witnessed it. Laois don't close out games as we saw against Kerry in the relegation playoff which a good few of these lads were involved in. 4 up with a minute or so to go. Some rest before taking on KK who are no world beaters this year either would have been the reward. Maybe our fortunes will change with the start of the U20 grade!
The real glory is being knocked to your knees and then coming back. That's real glory. VinceLombardi

We need to keep the heads down all it takes is a few good lads to turn it . Comerford and Podge Delaney need to be got on board off the minors for next year and keep building. Results seem to be going well at u16 u15 and u14 so we need to be patient. Anyone have more info on the u15s and who is showing well for them?

While its disappointing not to get any run going at U21, we must remember its about bringing through senior players, which we have done in spades already with this age group. We have obvious deficiencies, once again we need ball winners, and we need strong men in the air, and that needs to be worked on, but this group have matured admirably at senior level and that needs to be remembered. They'll be sick today, it'll have been a tough week, but time to let them recuperate now and for the senior squad to pull together for the qualifiers.

Have to agree 100% Don, most of these lads have done a lot of hurling and learning this year already. Long term vision, continued quality coaching and patience needed.

The main aim for this group should be to get a top line S&C program in place.

In every game,at every level we are lacking physical size and power.

even at u15 level v Tipp in Colt the last day, there was an apparent disparity in shape and size of the opposition.

One encouraging thing about the U21s the other night was that we had a nice share of big lads and didn't struggle physically. Ryan Mullaney, Fonzy O'Connell, John Lennon and Leigh Bergin are big men. The likes of Eric Killeen and Aaron Dunphy are filling out. Even some of the smaller lads such as Mark Kavanagh and Lee Cleere look like they will be hardy too.

That loss on Wednesday night was so hard to take as we didn't lose because we weren't good enough, we lost because of attitude. We dominated the game for 58 out of 60 minutes and were playing with Westmeath (the 2 attempts at goals late on could have been easy points and we were home and dry). They rose their game and we were asleep thinking about Kilkenny. They were better in extra time for sure but we were in shock and panicking.

Bottom line though we blew it

6 points up with 7 mins to go.

Westmeath dominated extra time and they might give kk their fill of it too, there's 10 from last year playing this year.

Whoever wins Leinster is assured of an all ireland place.

Whilst I agree with you  its frustrating to watch our players in hurling be dominated physically in every game we play at every grade for the last 20 years...

Just can;t figure out how we are so small and so weak in the air when it comes to hurling .We never seem to have that problem in football not that we get much success there either .

Because we are way behind the serious hurling counties when it comes to S&C and athletic development across all the ages.

And it's not a quick fix either, when Kirsenstein came on board with the Tipp seniors he told them it would be 2 years min before they would see the benefits of his work and they weren't starting from scratch.

As regards catching a high ball that's a skill that can be coached, there's a small chap down in Tullaroan,I wonder would he run a few workshops?
