Perfectly put.

I'm not sure where you're about but absolutely everything is going behind paywalls now, especially sport, that's the modern way.

Burns did point out that to make GAAGO viable that it needed to show some high profile games, he'd didn't shirk on that and Cork fans were probably unlucky in that their first three games were all on GAAGO and that does need addressed by the GAA.

Down / Re: Down Club Hurling & Football

Quote from: skat man on Today at 09:35:53 AMwhy would anyone in Down want to become a referee when they seen how our best ref was treated and after all the talk of rigorous investigation its now been brushed under the carpet and why would the county board not hush it when the clubs and current referees stand by and let that happen.

Not sure it was brushed under the carpet as I think the outcomes were shared with the referees during a meeting at the start of the year.

One of Paul Faloons requests to have all championship referee's mic'd up and recorded is to be introduced this year I believe.

Quote from: lurganblue on May 14, 2024, 11:16:53 PMAbsolutely delighted to have secured 4th place and CL football. From sitting near relegation when Emery took over last season to this moment is such a huge achievement. 5 years since the owners took charge of the club in the championship.

Are yis pretty close to FFP or whatever you call it now? Who goes so you can bring in players? Watkins, Luis?

It's hard to know, but it's probable. The accounts didn't look good again this year and I would say the 100m pure profit on Grealish has kept them right. I suspect there might be one big sale this summer to finance some incomings, possibly Luiz but I hope not.

European money, new sponsor and new kit deal with Adidas will also help.

The rules are changing this summer I believe as much as forest were punished it was obvious that their new owner could wipe that debt out in one go if he could, but currently FFP prevents him from doing so ALLEGEDLY.

Everton are leveraged to the balls and the chat is that they may go into administration in the next week as that'll mean the 10 point deduction will be taken from this season and not next.

The likes of Chelsea and Utd are also leveraged to the balls in debt, but currently that's OK, whereas Newcastle have no debt and money to burn but can't spend it, and ultimately this is taking money out of the game.

At a certain level that doesn't make sense.

Quote from: gallsman on May 14, 2024, 12:17:06 PMThe big deal is that he was wrong, and Burns corrected him. Emphatically.

Seems a few moany Tyronies are a bit touchy about Saint Sean being called out on his nonsense.

He was caught out spouting BS and has now doubled down on it.
Burns perfectly right to slap him down.

Really strange misstep for someone working in the financial industry.

He probably didn't expect to get pulled on it so quickly and publically by Burns who seems to be setting his stall out early doors in the press.

He gave William Crawley his fill of it on Radio Ulster Talkback a few weeks back as well.

Is that the big lad who bust his own head open head butting the wee lad who didn't flinch?

Wasn't sure what was going on there!

It was but Villa were always creating chances, although I don't care what anyone says that last Villa goal was a fluke, there's no way he meant to "knee" the ball in from there!

It's strange that how the voting patterns in a singing contest is deemed supporting a genocide in Gaza.

Who knew!

Quote from: clarshack on May 14, 2024, 11:33:43 AMWhat is the big deal about what Cavanagh has said anyway?. The GAA has cash in the bank and is asset rich therefore some people might think it is a wealthy organisation. Bit of an over reaction from Burns IMO.

Burns was bang on and put Cavanagh back in his wee box.

Having cash reserves is good management as you never know what your revenue streams will generate year on year, plus the GAA will be contributing to all those centres of excellence springing up in every county and investing in other areas too.
If the GAA were borrowing money year on year to stay afloat it would be deemed poor management and rightly so.

As for the brown envelopes comment, get involved in your own club and put an end to it from within and stop gurning about it, it's nothing to do with Burns or Croke Park.

Quote from: tiempo on May 13, 2024, 01:51:08 PMKath on reception is currently the 8th best receptionist in the league, by 6pm on Sunday she could be 6th best, its a fickle sport but I wish her well in her reception-based endeavors for the week ahead knowing that her contribution far outweighs anything Rashford has done this season

Kath has been working from home too much and taking the complete piss. Now Jim has her back in the office she should be back in the Top 4 next season.

Well certainly the first team will be inspired by Kath on reception and the performances will increase accordingly.

Quote from: didlyi on May 11, 2024, 10:37:55 AMI think Cork People have every right to be upset. They are the most populous hurling county and yet 3 of their munster hurling matches are behind a pay wall. Something stinks about that, the Gaa know that these 3 games alone will generate huge income. Do the Gaa or RTE produce viewing figures for Gaago?

And two of those games were in Cork itself....

Well they can all watch the Tipp game on the television this weekend.

Disgrace I tell you.

Quote from: tiempo on May 13, 2024, 10:40:26 AMAhhh the old ... not having top quality football people ... chestnut

One step removed from Neville's 'best in class' trope

So to address that they've acquired a 71yo billionaire minority shareholder supporter and Jason Wilcox

The football world is trembling at the prospect!

And if all else fails blame the Glazers, who to date have 5 PL titles and a European Cup under their tenure

Any current successful team that doesn't have top quality football people behind the scenes?  The 5 PL titles and a European Cup was won with Ferguson still there and the structure of the club and how it was ran went with his retirement. The true worth of the Glazers has been seen since.

The biggest compliment you can pay Ferguson is how on under god he won the last of those PL titles with that team.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on May 13, 2024, 10:53:37 AMStopping the Limerick powerhorses through the tackle is bring results, reducing the throws handpasses have brought results too, thought Cork for most parts brought that to the game..

Easier said than done considering the size of these lads, and they have a fair bit of skill too.

Not sure if Aaron Gillane scored from play, and that is a huge ask also, so a few things went well for Cork on the day..

The only time though to beat Limerick is in Knockout

It is, but Cork had no choice as their own championship life depended on getting the win, they were full blooded in that regard, but the question is, were Limerick?

Even with this defeat they're still favourites for the Munster final with Waterford left in their sights in two weeks time.

Clare beat Waterford and there's the Munster final pairings sorted.

Tipp need to beat Cork or they're out also.

Both are on RTE so that'll please everyone including Donal Óg and any OAP's who've no internet up a mountain somewhere who'd never been able to see the game anyway before GAAGO.

But it reeks of owners who've bled the club dry and not one bean of their money will ever be spent on Manchester United.

How can you say that, just the £2.1bn in player acquisitions since they bought the club

And not one bean of it from the Glazers.

That was all revenue generated by Man Utd PLC.
