Big shock in the Greenham today with Canford Cliffs getting turned over by his stablemate Dick Turpin. I can't see past St Nick for the Guineas now. I'd backed him for Epsom at 14s after the Beresford because I'd never have even considered the Guineas for a Montjeu colt. I thought he might get done by a specialist miler but the English colts haven't been anything to write home about.

Canford Cliffs drifted all over the shop when Hughesie got the whip out and I'm not sure he'll get the mile. Elusive Pimpernel was impressive in the Craven midweek but he has plenty of ground to find with SNA on Doncaster form. The Dewhurst last year looked very ordinary and Steinbeck who was the horse to take out of it is wating for the Curragh instead of travelling to Newmarket. Coolmore must reckon this colt has a fabulous chance of being the first since Nijinsky to win the Triple Crown if they're keeping Steinbeck at home.

I've taken the 7/4 now because I can see him going off a 5/4 or 11/10 shot. Hopefully they'll get the hosepipe out on the Rowley mile for the next fortnight and we have a bit of ease in the ground on the day.
There's Seán Brady going in, what dya think Seán?

Dunguib heading for the Champion Hurdle on Friday rather than the novice race.
As I dream about movies they won't make of me when I'm dead

Donnellys Hollow

Hurricane Fly is all set to return as well after his suspensory ligament injury. Solwhit, Punjabi & Voler La Vedette thrown in for good measure. Fascinating race in prospect.

I hope Willie sends Quevega for the Stayers Hurdle. I'd love to see her take her chance over three miles with a view to taking on Big Bucks next year.

I walked the track at Punchestown this morning and it is in fabulous condition. Roll on Tuesday!

8/1 Blackstairmountain for the Champion Novice Hurdle on Tuesday is surely worth an e/w punt now Dunguib is wating for Friday. General Miller is a worthy fav but 5/4 is way too short. Menorah got there too soon at Aintree and he didn't look as good in his coat as he did at Cheltenham.

BSM looked a daisy cutter as a bumper horse and he just didn't get home in the desperate ground at Fairyhouse (taking nothing away from Luska Lad who is bordering on Grade 1 class right handed). He'll love the better ground on Tuesday and should not be longer than his stablemate Flat Out who is a slower staying type.

The 7/2 about Quevega for the Stayers is tempting but her target still hasn't been confirmed. She'd need the heavens to open on Thursday to have a prayer in the Champion Hurdle IMO.

5/1 now  ;D

I'm struggling to see another bet on tomorrow's card at the moment though. The sun has been splitting the stones here in the shortgrass all day and it will be definitely genuine Good ground tomorrow - especially if the banks course is now Good-Firm.

I'm not sure that ground will suit Sizing Europe. It definitely won't suit Barker and Golden Silver. Forpadydeplasterer's seconditis puts me off him. He holds Kalahari King (who should enjoy the ground) on two Cheltenham runs and he fell last time out at Aintree. Twist Magic is a bit of a hound who'll either be pulled up or win by half the track.

Zaarito is the class act in the novice chase but he has been on the grass more times than Bob Marley. The Midnight Club is his market rival but I always thought he was better with give in the ground.

I'll keep an eye on the market in the bumpers but it'll definitely be Blackstairmountain for me to get the meeting off to a flyer.

Donnellys do you post on antepost horse racing section of betfair forum? The shrewdies over there are on BSM.

Barbers Shop runs tomorrow  :) ...possibly a hound ( or bottomed by the King George) but Ill be backing ew.

Forpady ew for me today plus a small bet on Kempes in novice chase.

Donnellys Hollow

I don't post there anymore no. The value has gone from BSM at this stage but you have to sit up and take notice when there's money   for one of Willie's. I heard last night that Ruby would have ridden Flat Out if he had been fit. It could be rubbish but it's stopped me backing BSM again this morning. I'm happy to let the 8/1 run. Can't have him out of the first three.

I wouldn't say Barbers Shop is a hound. He always seems to run a fairly decent race. I suspect he just isn't Grade 1 class and he's overrated because of his connections. You couldn't back Denman/Cooldine/Joncol tomorrow unless there's rain and there is good e/w value to be had in the race. I've missed the boat on J'y Vole and the value is now gone on her. I'd love to see War Of Attrition run well on his final appearance but he won't carry my cash.

I'll probably just have a small e/w bet on Tranquil Sea. I don't think he ran his race at Cheltenham but I'll forgive him that. He ran a stinker in the Supreme Novices two years ago before hacking up in the Grade 1 novice at Punchestown beating Trafford Lad and Fiveforthree.

I heard there was a preview at Ratoath on Sunday night and Ruby said Flat out did some good piece of work last week.

The AP section on betfair is still good for confirming your own ideas ... (likes of platinni, prospero, Farfrom trouble, deep impact, amaru, sandsoftime, trevw, and moneytree ( do the opposite of what he says)  know their stuff)  ...the main horse racing section and Irish sports seems to have been taken over by nutters. A few of them round here ( though not necessarily on this thread  :P) too.

I used to post on that Irish Sports section a while back but it became infested with nutters alright - probably a sign of the recession with lads off work and just punting their dole money on the exchange all day!

Had a look at the two bumpers this morning. Not a lot of form to go on but some interesting pedigrees. Picked out a few:

17:30
Seeds Of Victory - Newcomer for Tom Taaffe. Well bred sort from the family of Triumph Hurdler Rare Holiday. The yard has a good record with newcomers in bumpers and he's a 25/1 shot at the moment.
Double Double - Flat bred gelding who was bought fairly cheaply. Has plenty of speed in his pedigree but stayed well at Naas when he beat a highly regarded horse of DK Weld's very easily. Trained down the road from me in Straffan by Charles O'Brien (Vincent's son) who does well with his few bumper horses. 11/2 at the moment.

19:15
Hired Hand - Another Charles O'Brien trained horse. He's by High Chaparral and is a half brother to a Prix Vermeille winner (Pearly Shells). It's rare to see such a good flat pedigree pitching up in a bumper. Also interesting that JP has snapped him up. 10/1 with William Hill at the moment despite being as short as 5/1 elsewhere.
Stotan - An unraced gelding trained by Edward O'Grady. By Milan out of an unraced Bob Back mare so he should enjoy this good ground. General 12/1 shot.

Louth Exile

Right just done a wee treble/ cross doubles
3.40 Outlaw Pete (I have to admit I picked it on the name  :D Although JT is on board, which is never a bad thing over the banks)
4.20 Blackstairsmountain (I know what you are saying about the value being gone DH, but I wasn't on, so we'll take a chance on it anyway)
6.05 Sizing Europe (no way I could desert him after Christmas or Cheltenham!)
