That's the end of Shefflin! Galway out of the Championship in May!

We'd be ahead only for the two Ronnie Delia years where we won only 1 of the 4 domestic Cups on offer.

Hurling on Terrestrial TV today. Think we need more exposure of the game. Could they not have put games on yesterday aswell?

Quote from: snoopdog on May 23, 2024, 08:34:19 AMDown v Offaly a dead rubber. Are many others nothing games.
It is the advantage of the current round robin system. Only 1 dead rubber out of 8 games, and a meaningful difference to top the group by going straight through to the QF and an extra week off.

Whereas if it reverted to the Top 2 only qualify, which is what the Sunday Game/RTE in particular are demanding, there would be 5 dead rubbers out of the 8 games next week.

The problem is that the Quarter Finals end up as uneven games as the 2nd/3rd teams are wrecked from outings 3 weeks in a row. Making it near on impossible to beat the table toppers.

Quote from: jcpen on May 25, 2024, 03:42:09 PMMan Uniteds game to lose now, it's in their hands.

And unlike the Liverpool team you support they didn't lose when got into the position of winning yesterday.

Bad day for sportwashing and soulless clubs with Manchester City unable to add another trophy to their collection and Newcastle United missing out on European football next season.

Now, now, don't go talking about losing in a position of winning. Utd were the masters of doing this, this season.
Congrats to Utd. I wasn't overly upset (as i'd normally would be) to see them beat the 115 cheaters yesterday.

Meath have been bad for a long time now. One of many that are choked by a heavy weighted Leinster Championship - geared at proving Dublin with as many advantages as possible. Colm for years sat in his Ivory Tower in RTE criticising teams for not kicking the ball in, for not doing this, for not doing that. He has found out - on the front line that Inter-county management is not as easy as it seems. Colm and his back room team are on big money. He is in no way a volunteer. He is being well paid to do his job.

Quote from: Cunny Funt on Today at 11:00:33 AMDonegal last year compared to this year under Jim McGuinness are prime example to any top 8/10 team how they can improved once it has structure organisation, top level fitness from hard winter training and each and every player buying into a system of play.   With Cork and Clare to come that game yesterday was basically a table topper and the manner and margin of victory yesterday was impressive and it's rarely easy to beat the same Div 1 team twice in a matter of weeks.

Cork could be tricky. They are a decent side. And it's an away fixture on the other side of the country.

Quote from: From the Bunker on May 25, 2024, 05:35:40 PMCongrats to the Utd fans on here. Made City look ordinary. Nice finish to your season, after a lot of pain.
I presume that means they are in Europa League now? Probably could have done without that.
Ah, the group stages can be easy. Players now a days want to been seen in Europe rather than hid away in their domestic leagues.

Quote from: Rossfan on May 24, 2024, 11:33:50 PMWe made a lot of errors in that 2nd half which they punished.
They made very few.
2 weeks to prepare for Kerry and we'll see how it goes.
The 7 (or more!) games will certainly help in these lads' development as footballers and look forward to seeing them as u20s and some as County Seniors.
A lot of them from the smaller clubs, hopefully they can help make their clubs more competitive and give us some new nanes as Club Champions in the years ahead.

These lads are very young in the scheme of things - 16 and 17 year olds. I know plenty of lads who were fine footballers at this age and were not so good when senior level approached. In other cases some moved away from sport with Education, work, leisure activities, travelling and girlfriends taking center stage.

Naturally on the other side, there are a plethora on show tonight that will see very successful careers with their clubs and county.

Quote from: weareros on May 24, 2024, 03:07:42 PMI can understand provincial winners getting a home advantage first game but asking Ros to play Dublin and then a rested Mayo following Saturday is not a level playing field in the group stages. But then again sure that's nothing to be complainin' about - have you heard a Cork hurling game was not free to air and they had to watch on GAAGo? The tyranny.

There's no such thing as a level playing field in the group stages. Group stages are designed for the Dublin's and the Kerry's. After that it is made as hard as possible for the chasing few.

On top of it all the Far Right have hijacked the Shinners monopoly of the Tri-Colour!

Kerry a lucky team to make the final. Made a very good Tyrone team look even better.

Quote from: jcpen on May 19, 2024, 08:04:29 PMDid Man United make it into any of the European places?
Do they get the Europa League because they are in FA Cup Final?

Think they're out unless they win the FA Cup.

Who got Liverpool's League Cup European place?

Who get the Conference League Place?
