Absolutely he's key in that team - he's so easy on the eye with the oval ball in hand. Looks more natural than most of the Aussies. Has had a stellar year. So has Callum Brown, but he'll have nightmares over the loss to Collingwood

Very shocking, upsetting news. Never met him in the real world, only posting here. God have mercy on him.

Indeed, and one of the long time Mayo posters on here - desperately sad

Lastly. America IS the market. There might be bucket loads of money around the world but it's not golf money on the same way. Half of the world's courses are in the USA and half of the world's golfers are in the USA. That's where the real golf money is and is why the majority of PGA events are at home. Furthermore LIV'a riches might not be carrot enough is their tour is going to demand events around the world. Elite players aren't as fond of travelling as you might think. Most of them live in Florida for a reason.

I'm not sure about this one, America undoubtedly IS the current market. I think this disrupts things longer term and in 5 years we will say America WAS the market.

Assuming LIV doesn't go away, I think there will have to be a tipping point where it all comes back together and it certainly won't look like what it does today. Possibly an F1 model where the players will tour the world for massive sums with the majors thrown in, Ryder Cup maybe merges with the Presidents Cup for a World Cup type of event that countries need to qualify for.

I don't agree with what is happening, far from it - but as with all industries and sports that get disrupted things are going to change quite a lot, and probably for the worse.

And ultimately I think this is why LIV will be short lived. The changes to the format have been too drastic. The safety cushion provided to mediocre players means they'll never have any reason to improve. The need to play golf constantly in the USA (it's not just the key market, it's the market) means it will always be competing with a homegrown product. Non-golfers might be drawn initially to watch it. But i just can't see the current golf market being drawn to it.

I think it's a first step, and I tend to disagree with the point on playing constantly in the US. For me this will be an evolving model, which will eventuate in a World Tour of golf type of model - massive markets in Asia and Australia that simply don't get enough access to the professional game in comparison to the Northern Hempisphere.

If there's a world tour with an Australian swing, move up to Asia and a follow the sun type of model I think that's where it will eventually land - how long it takes and what damage is done is the only question in my mind

FWIW people on the ground here in Melbourne are livid about him getting in and potentially able to play - with an upcoming election essentially a referendum on the current Government handling of the pandemic (food shortages, no RAT tests, kids unvaccinated), this is an opportunity for these clowns to reclaim the narrative.

I reckon he'll get booted, but perhaps I'm just overly hopeful

But has lived in Roscommon for many years ;D
It has to be quite challenging to live life with saying Roscommon in every sentence...a day in the life

"How's the form ? Ah not too bad, grand morning now Roscommon but afternoon isn't promised great"

"50 Diesel on pump 8 Roscommon, Thanks"

"Lamb chops Roscommon for dinner is it?"

Nice to see some of the old legends being remembered and honoured  ;)
