Well done to dingle the best side won, if ever we need to know why Kerry sides have won so many All Irelands it was seen once again in the final 7 minutes today. Credit to the Roscommon students they probably weren't expected to win the Connacht title but today they were leading the All Ireland final with 7 mins to go and missed a few other goal chances.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

After the goal went in for CBS with ten minutes remaining, the reaction from the Dingle lads was fierce composed. The benefit of their experience stood them massively in this spell.

I think the wide tally of 15 to 5 or thereabouts gives a lot of insight into the game.

If the Kerry lads had their shooting boots on it could have been a much more comfortable win for them.

As for the comments on the ref, I thought he had an extremely solid performance.

Le'ts not rewrite what transpired before our eyes only a few minutes ago. Most of Dingle's wides were caused by them being unable to break down CBS's defence and taking pot shots from bad angles and bad situations in frustration. It wasn't them missing sitters against a much inferior team.

No it's wasn't a case of them missing sitters against a much inferior team, but there's no doubt that Dingle were the superior team on the day and by quite a bit in my opinion.

They were just about the better team.

Zulu

Nonsense, they were far the better team. If you can't accept that then take off the primrose glasses. No shame in Roscommon losing to that PCD team but trying to make out the game was something it wasn't is only doing a disservice to the young CBS players who never gave in and fought to the end. They wouldn't appreciate being patronised I'm sure.

Rudi

PCd were by far the better side and were not flattered one bit by the winning margin. The ref was shocking, incredibly shocking for both sides.

manfromdelmonte

Lots of possession and passing back and forwards across the field doesn't mean you were the best team.

Plus relying on drawing soft frees from an easily fooled referee.

Different teams play to their strengths, clearly the CBS had a gameplan and nearly pulled it off

Dingle have done the two in a row.Wonder when that was last done?

Possession and shots are a fairly good way of assessing a games flow but when most neutrals watching the game feel one team were much superior that should be a strong indication that you may have viewed things with a degree of bias. Roscommon got a few soft frees themselves.

manfromdelmonte

I'm not from Roscommon.

Taking shots from unsuitable positions will generally result in wides.

Zulu

And when a team sets up as defensively as Roscommon you sometimes have to give it a go from an angle or distance and hope you get a few or they at least go dead so you don't get caught on counter attacks. Irrespective of the stats it was clear watching the game who were the better team and it certainly wasn't the Roscommon boys but there is no shame in that. Sometimes you come up against a better team but they did fantastically well and I hope they'll be back, albeit playing a different brand of football.

blanketattack

I thought it was such a pity that you've all these Roscommon lads playing in Croke Park and their manager wouldn't even let them play.
Imagine all these forwards playing in possibly their only time in Croke Park and they spend it mainly as defenders. Shame for 16, 17 and 18 year olds to be forced to play like this. Only a matter of time before the managers of the primary school games played at halftime will have the players all playing behind the ball as well.

Scutter. They were beat by 11 points by Summerhill in the Connacht Colleges League final in February. They cut their cloth to fit excellently.

Rossfan

Some people expect the lesser breeds to just turn up and play it wide open and let the Kerrys of this world bate the sh1te out of us.  ::)
I bet most Galways would prefer to have won last Saturday's U21 game by 8 pts to 7 in a horrible spectacle.
