Christ you know itís been a slow year in sport when James wins the RTE Sports Personality of the Year..

Ireland won two competitive games and McClean scored one goal

GAA Discussion / Re: James Horan steps down as Mayo manager

seriously, how much cash do you think a club manager in Mayo gets ?

lets say they get 100 a session. so 50 x 100 = 5,000. or even 150 a session x 50 =7,500
Hardly life changing.

Am I way off, I genuinely don't know.

Lads get that a night to manage teams that have no chance in Offaly.

Then in Roscommon, youíve PŠdraig Pearses. 30 grand a year to Curan x 2 years.
Flanagan will probably get similar.
0 county titles.

Pearses were stone useless this season without Cake. This is the first Iíve heard about 30 grand a year to Cake. I think a lot of people get confused about the need to pay other coaches too when it comes to these rumored numbers.
Heard it from lads I went to college with who were p*ssed off about wasting that much money on a manager.
He took over an intermediate team in Offaly last year. They were in crisis. Hammered by local rivals by 25+ points. Ä275 a night. Not bad going.

DaithŪ Regan claimed on twitter that some managers get 50k a year.
I presume he meant county managers, but I suppose Dublin club could fall into those figures as well.

Matty Kenny on around that with Cuala hurlers apparently

Doubt itís a per session fee, salary I would imagine.

Packers got a chance?

Nah, Panthers Vikes & Lions to finish. Doubt they win all 3, especially when you look at the fact the Browns should have beaten them

The Pats have lost 4 of their last 5 in Miami now, or something like that. Very un Patriots like really. If the Steelers can beat them next weekend, you'd think the PAts will struggle to get to the Superbowl.

You would worry for the Steelers that they are only scraping past what has been mediocre opposition the last few weeks. We will find out what they are made of this week

Awful to see an injury like that to a star player at the top of his game. Foles is a much higher than average backup though so I wouldn't rule them out. AFC is going to be fun with the Jags, Steelers and Chargers looking the most likely to topple the borg.

The Bears tour of the AFC North continued apace. Trubisky's best game so far.

Tough break for Wentz. Was on target for the MVP in my view.
Dont know if it has been mentioned on here already but I did not realise until I watched the Pittsburgh game that Ryan Shazier's injury was as serious. Spinal surgery. The NFL is a great game to watch but some of the hits are unbelievable. 15 stone plus guys who can sprint at a pace that would not look out of place at the Olympics colliding at full pelt must be brutal on the body, even with the padding.

Yeah I would say Shaziers injury has ended his career, itís been a brutal year for bad injuries. Bad one to lose for Pats last night, itís all on next week v Steelers for home field advantage

United are 2nd, 3 points ahead of Chelsea, 5 points ahead of Liverpool, 6 points ahead of Arsenal and 7 points ahead of Spurs, you'd think we were miles behind everyone the way some of you are going on. There's a reason why 70 points is the most we've achieved in the last 4 years.

LVG & Moyes spent over £320m on players which would probably equate to about £500m in todays market and there's only one top class player bought out of that lot in Martial. The pair of them wasted a fortune.

We're a work in progress and clearly we're a better team than last year but United are still a few players short.

Is buying players the only solution now, is it fair to say managers are no longer expected to make players better? Are the days of an obscure buy now well and truly behind us?

Yeah thatís what I wa thinking when you often hear ďhe doesent have his own teamĒ about top level managers. What happened to coaching up players that have deficiencies & improving what you have ? Surely thatís the sign of a great manager?

United played poorly but realistically how many decent saves did De Gea make? City looked great running around midfield but they lacked it in the box where it counts and got two scrappy, lucky goals to win it. I think United were too negative but in another world were Lukaku had belted the ball clear instead of off someoneís head, and Herrera had got the penalty and people would be talking about Mourinho the genious and not saying he should never have been hired. Back in the CL, Europa Cup in the trophy cabinet and second in the league - not brilliant but a hell of a lot better than the club were after Moyes and LVG. I think turning things around after those two is a bigger job than Mourinho expected and some on here realise. Whenever he leaves, be in at the end of next season or in 4 years time, the club will be in a better position that when he took on the job.

He will probably spent half a billion by then so you would like to think you would be better off

General discussion / Re: Teenage bullying on social media and suicide

Iíve seen this a couple of times on my social media over the last couple of days and it troubles me greatly.

https://www.iradio.ie/celebrities-rallied-behind-bullied-boy-heartbreaking-plea-mother-went-viral/

Iíve no clue of the back story to it and have mixed feelings on whether it should ever have been posted but it sure is powerful.

When I originally posted this I didnít notice the suicide element to the thread maybe I should move it?

Have to say I was a bit cynical as to the mothers motives and it seems I was right to be, she is asking people to PayPal her money and think there may be a Go Fund me on the go too

Oh and she seems to be a raging racist too

Never a pen, an appalling decision and I'm amazed so many ex players think it was a pen. It doesn't say in the rules you can't touch an opponent, Lovren had his hands on him but didn't push or shove him.

Yeah itís like when you hear people saying ďthere was contactĒ, contact doesent mean you fall over or throw yourself to the ground

Nfl.com says the Eagles believe Wentz has tore his acl. It is a tough break for the Eagles if true. They were on course for a super bowl appearance.

Very frustrating alright. Good win but could be expensive

Yeah I think the Eagles would have won it all, best all round team in the NFL
