The football League is more interesting than the Championship

Compact, everyone gets the same number of games, interesting developments, relatively few hammerings, difficult to predict in some cases.

The League has been an inconvenience for Mayo the last couple of seasons!

Rossfan

It is.
But it's still only a pre season tournament.
If it was played March to June with the Provincials interspersed in it with the top 3 in each Division plus the Provincial Champions going on to compete for Sam......

We're going to bring home the SAM

Its a while since i seen Mayo players celebrate as much after a game than last Sunday and they only drew!. The league is more interesting because its the best format the GAA have while the championship is a cup competition and has become less interesting because its has become less and less of a knock out competition and the story of the underdogs that makes any cup competition great is getting killed off.

Weekly games between teams at a similar level.
Drama and upsets.
Chance to see new bright talents.
What's not to like??? Honestly the only thing it has against it is the weather.

Remember the old league QF's? top 4 div 1, top 2 div 2, winner div 3 and winner div 4. I remember a Div 4 winner at least putting it up to or beating a Div 1 winner at least once.

League should be played in the summer.

Our players barely celebrated promotion to D1 more than winning an FBD game. Championship remains the interesting competition.

Both Cavan and Fermanagh celebrated with great gusto, then again the Galacticos of Ros are well used to success at this stage.

Provincials should be warm up.
Give Sam to winners of League - home & away games.
Scrap all other inter county games.
Sin é.

Yeah you're right.

I'm beginning to think a premier league type c'ship would be better. Whoever finishes top, wins Sam. The c'ship isn't knockout anyway, and it's become a convoluted pile of nonsense.

about 26 teams enter the championship competition with zero chance of winning, the same counties should be going all out in the league to try to move up the ladder and rise their standards but most of them still dream of a big run in the championship which is unrealistic at best , also the back door has really done the opposite of what it was intended too.

Presumably because many think Ros will be going straight down again next season.

Yes this is the way to go. Run provincials in between like FA Cup. If teams get to provincial final that's another route into say the last 16. Could have top 5 from Div1, 3 from Div2, 2 from Div3 & 4, rest for provincials

A big run in the c'ship for many counties is unrealistic because of the system. And that system has lessened their chances since 2001.
