Laois / Next Laois football manager

Well,  Creedon is now gone. So new thread.
Who do we want? Let's be realistic too.
I'd gamble on Chris Conway.

Just wondering what the smallest club or club in each of the counties is.

In my own Laois, we'd have a few very small clubs who wouldn't even have half a parish to pick from such as Kilcavan, Kyle and Trumera.

They would all just have one adult football or hurling team and that's it - even at that, getting a team out would be a challenge for them.

What's the smallest club or clubs in your county?

Junior; Rosenallis
Junior B; Camross
Junior C; O'Dempsey's
Minor; Portarlington
Under 21; St Joseph's/Barrowhouse

Any reports from first round defeat to Meath Saturday? Couldn't get to it. Sounds like it was a poor game.

Laois / Club football managers 2016
December 03, 2015, 05:17:20 PM
Any moves on the club management front?

The only one I've heard is Leo Turley taking on the job of getting O'Dempsey's back out of intermediate at the first time of asking.

Gerry Flaherty has left Courtwood but don't know who's in charge there next year.

No change in Annanough (John Irwin) or Port (Lonergan).

Presume Malachy McNulty stays with Portlaoise regardless of Sunday's result and Pat Ryan will surely stay with Emo unless his boxing commitments prevent him from doing so.

Laois / Laois Intermediate Football Championship
July 28, 2015, 07:12:32 PM
Throws in this weekend with two games Friday night, both in Group A.
I'd expect Courtwood to be favourites to beat Kilcavan but Kilcavan caught them on the hop in 2013 JFC final and they would fancy their chances of repeating that.
Clonaslee v Annanough should be close. Clonaslee won their recent league game. Hard to call, a draw maybe?
Timahoe must be strong favourites to win this title though. Were fierce disappointed to lose the final last year and hard to see them being stopped. Biggest challenge could come from the winner of the Clonaslee Annanough game.
Don't know much about The Rock, league results were pretty poor. Spink would be decent if Ballinakill exited the hurling any way early, otherwise they could actually go down. Portlaoise and Graigue second teams are hard to read. All depends on how strong the 15 they get together is.
Verdict; Timahoe's to lose.

Laois / Laois Junior Football Championship

Laois Junior Football Championship
O'Dempsey's                     v              The Heath
Rosenallis                            v              Stradbally
Portlaoise                            v              Barrowhouse
Ballyroan Abbey               v              The Rock
Mountmellick                    v              Portarlington
Graiguecullen                    v              St Joseph's
Ballylinan                             v              The Harps

Seven games down for decision this week in the opening round of the JFC – should be a pretty open championship.
Park/Ratheniska are already through after last year's beaten finalists Slieve Bloom/Castletown pulled the plug on the football this year.
P/R will be favourites to bounce straight back up. I also think Rosenallis have a good chance – beaten by Courtwood in the last two semi-finals, they have plenty of good young players. Josephs are fairly strong at this grade too although they could finish the championship with a lot weaker team than they start with if their seniors need to delve into the junior panel.
Barrowhouse are dark horses – the word is they have Emmett Malone and Joe Murphy back to lend experience to those good young minors they have. Would be great to see them winning a championship.
Of the others – Portlaoise's third team could be anything, very hard to read them. O'Dempsey's will be decent but have a tough game against The Heath who are also not too bad. Stradbally will struggle I think. Mountmellick, Port, Ballyroan, The Rock, Harps, Ballylinan and Graigue are all rank outsiders.

Laois / Laois ACFL Division 3
March 23, 2015, 10:06:41 AM
The first round was completed yesterday with Spink beating Rosenallis.

You'd imagine Courtwood, Rosenallis, Stradbally and The Heath to be the contenders in this division.

Portarlington 2-15 Kilcavan 0-10
The Heath 0-9 Stradbally 0-4
Barrowhouse 1-7 Ballylinan 2-10
Portlaoise   0-6 O'Dempseys 5-4
Timahoe 2-5 Courtwood 1-12
Spink 0-7   Rosenallis 1-11

A few results from the opening round;

Ballyfin 0-6  Annanough 3-13
Clonaslee St Manmans 1-6 Ballylinan 1-7
The Rock 0-5 Ballyroan Abbey 3-13

Don't know what's gone wrong with The Rock but they are really going very poorly these times.

Laois / Club transfers

Used to be a thread for this on Laoistalk.

Anyway, to kick it off, I see Killeen are at it again and have signed two of last year's Spink intermediate team.
